A track ball mouse that could use a tail

I'm not a newbie to the trackball mouse. Years ago I had a wired Logitech trackball but found, over time, the ball lost its smooth movement; the ball became sluggish and cleaning it didn't help, so I went back to the traditional mouse. Recently I decided to give the Logitech trackball another shot and scored the ERGO M575.I've always liked the trackball setup, it's definitely easier on the wrist and hand. With a trackball, you don't need the desktop "real estate" needed with a conventional mouse. The "metalflake" looking blue ball has a nice, smooth feel to it and I find it very accurate and easy to use. I hope as time passes, the ball stays as easy moving as it does now. If you've not used a track ball before, it may take some getting used to, so give it some time before you pass judgement. A big component as to how comfortable ...or not ...this ERGO trackball is going to be has a lot to do with your hand ...and how it fits the M575. Strongly suggest you try it on for size at your local BestBuy store. For me, it fits fine and is a lot more comfortable than a traditional mouse. But my hands aren't that big; a size "medium" in work gloves if that helps. The ERGO M575 offers both wireless and Bluetooth connections. I found the wireless connection to be a bit sketchy. I have a thin profile iMac Pro ...and all the USB ports are on the backside. The M575 had a very hard time maintaining a good wireless radio connection with the receiver plugged into the back of my iMac. The thin profile iMac is made of a lot of aluminum ...and probably blocks or reduces the signal strength to the USB receiver. The M575 would work sometimes and at other times get jumpy or unresponsive; it wasn't 100% reliable in its function. I decided to try the Bluetooth connection and that has worked well; I've been running it via Bluetooth for a week and it's working flawlessly. Some have commented on having a wired option and, given the potentially poor signal strength and reception of the wireless connection, having a wired option makes sense. Depending on the location of the desktop, the location of the USB port and how much metal is involved, will determine your success in using the wireless connection. IMHO, for desktop style computers without Bluetooth, it would be best to have a key board with a USB port to plug the M575's receiver into. I tried plugging the wireless USB receiver into a USB hub, to move it from behind the iMac, but that didn't work well either. The functions of the buttons and scroller of the M575 trackball are identical to a regular mouse. You can get free downloads of Logitech software to help customize the M575 potentially offering a higher level of customization.Overall I'm very happy with the ERGO M575 trackball mouse. Like every other Logitech device I've purchased, it is well made and exudes a level of high quality. The M575, for me, is definitely more comfortable than any traditional mouse I've used. It's weak point seems to be the wireless connection; the location of the USB receiver is critical in how well the M575 reliably connects and functions. Bluetooth works well in lieu of wireless if your computer has it. If you don't have a Bluetooth option then having a keyboard with a USB port would be best IMHO. Otherwise you'll have to take your chances on reliable reception. I dinged it a star for the iffy wireless connection and no option for a wired connection; this is one mouse that needs a tail.

No need to keep the USB receiver node in sight; mine is on the back of my desktop computer that under my desk, and with the mouse blocked by external drives. Can link multiple devices to the node, like a Logitech keyboard and my nephew's joystick (the box refers to the node as a Dual Connectivity, but we can link up to 6 devices). It will notify us when the battery is running low, though the usual tiny green "waking up" light at the top, which lasts about 1.5 seconds, will instead glow red if the battery is low.Because we tend to snack when we use the mouse, it needs periodic cleaning, which is very easy. A hole on the bottom allows us to insert a pinky and pop the ball out. We can then use a tissue or, if a guy, just a finger to quickly wipe the smutz off of 3 internal rollers. Then, pop the ball back in and go back to work.

When you Tweeted that you fell into the Bill Ackman camp on SBF, I scratched my head. Now it all makes sense. I thought how could guys as shrewd and cut throat as O’Leary and Ackman be giving SBF a pass and why would they going out of their way to publicly give him the benefit of the doubt? I see the strategy now. There is so much information investors need in order to straighten this out so that they can report losses properly and start the process of getting their money back. It’s counter intuitive to put SBF or any of his team any more on the defensive than they already are because you might need his/their cooperation to find some of these funds and there’s a real chance that without tht cooperation you may never find a portion of them again. I think he’s going to pay the price for it and I think you just might be leading the charge!I recently purchased an ergonomically correct optical mouse with a ball cursor and have been using it for work in Excel. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with its performance. The ergonomic design fits comfortably in my hand and reduces strain on my wrist during long periods of use. The ball cursor allows for precise movements and makes navigating spreadsheets a breeze. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend this mouse to anyone looking for an ergonomic and efficient tool for working in Excel.Logitech has a few ergonomic mice with ball cursors that you might be interested in. One of them is the Logitech MX ERGO Advanced Wireless Trackball Mouse which is crafted for the shape of your hand and built for fast and precise tracking. It has a unique 0 or 20° tilt angle that allows you to adjust your hand and wrist posture to conquer those lengthy decks and spreadsheets with ease 1. Another option is the Logitech ERGO M575 Wireless Trackball which has a sculpted ergonomic shape and smooth, responsive thumb control 2. Both of these mice are designed to minimize movement and maximize comfort while using them.

Great mouse, easy cleaning, sensitive (easy fix)
3 March 2024

I’ve been using this mouse for about five months now and I really like it. I’ve never used an ergonomic mouse before, but I started a new job about a year ago that had significantly more mouse movements than my previous office job, so I was constantly getting tendinitis despite ergonomic wrist wrests and desk setup. There is a learning curve on this, I recommend slowing your mouse cursor speed down (you can find this in Settings in Windows) as it will make the ball much less sensitive.I wish I hadn’t listened to the reviews saying the ball is difficult to remove/replace for cleaning, as this significantly reduces the functionality of the mouse when crud builds up in there. I was avoiding trying to remove the ball for a couple months because of this. You can ... MoreI’ve been using this mouse for about five months now and I really like it. All in all a great option with no issues, and my tendinitis is now nonexistent.

THAT's RIGHT - product would not be discovered by my bluetooth (3.1 ?) navigating logitech support was a nightmare, and COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME - SHAME ON YOU LOGITECH - too big now to remain manageable?Strike 2Then I thought to try a decade old logitech usb transmitter, and low and behold, INSTANT success! Apparently logitech's usb transmitters are unified. NO additional software was needed. Trackball worked nice. Easier to navigate than I anticipated, as I had never used a trackball as a mouse before. I also liked how it remained firmly planted in one small area on my desk, not requiring movement space. So now I wanted to program the many buttons, so I needed the software logitech decided it was a good idea to take down from it's site, yet refused to take down the page, or links, or bother to put ANY notice ANYWHERE it removed the 'legacy' versions of it's software and were no longer supporting older products.Strike 3So I found a fellow disgruntled blogger who graciously had uploaded copies of said legacy software, virus free and working flawlessly!Buttons programmed. Then I tried to remove the logitech software, but unlike how just removing the app on a mac is supposed to COMPLETELY uninstall, it was NOT an app, but an installer app (without an uninstaller app) they must have taken a page out of the Adobe playbook, as it looks like another one of those 40 hours of research and effort, yet STILL CAN'T REMOVE THE SOFTWARE CRAP SITUATION, and restoring a whole OS every time you make any change is unrealistic and akin to 'just have another kid if one does not work out'VERDICT -Buggy software. My first time using a trackball mouse. After five days, 9-10 hours each day, I gave up. My hands are medium to large, so it felt comfy. Maybe it's me, but my biggest issue was my middle finger would inadvertently click the right button now and then. Maybe it's me, but very annoying. My second issue was sometimes when I left clicked, it didn't respond. It could be that my forefinger should be pressing closer to the front of the button. I never have this issue with my old regular mouse (M510). My third issue was moving the cursor across 3 screens to precise locations, which is easier for me on the M510. and I had the moving speed set to max. I work with securities trading so I cannot afford to make mistakes. For casual use, or if you have wrist issues it should be fine. Going back to the M510.

Not Worth It
30 October 2023

I needed a mouse capable of being used without much physical movement and this does that. However, the trackball to cursor pipeline is seriously flawed, don't expect to use this for any fast-paced games. That poor little cursor is just a-twitchin. The ball collects much grime. Most notably, this mouse cannot be used if there is anything in between it and the dongle. Absolutely zero items. If I sit the mouse ON the laptop, there's interference and the click function is lost. When I'm sitting a mere three feet away and the dog walks between? Dead. Next is build quality I suppose, which is fine. I've dropped it a few times and it seems to take those well, granted I have carpet. Just meh. Can't believe this was $40. Worth 15 maybe

Oh my, another Logitech product
31 May 2024

I like trackballs. I had previously had 4 other Logitech trackballs and Trackman's that were wired versions that had quit working on previous computers. I have had many Logitech products that quit working. I had another TB I had bought when I replaced another computer recently-it died within a month. Desperate for control I went to my local Best Buy to get anything to mouse the new computer. I broke down and bought this M575 hopefully it won't die like all the other Logitech items I have bought in the last 20 years. I had sworn never again but here I am with another Logitech item just hoping it has a long life at least till windows 12 or 13...Other than that it is slick and works well. wireless version of a couple of my wired version.Too soo to tell about value and ... MoreI like trackballs. Okay

I have been using the Logitech ERGO M575 wireless trackball mouse for a few months now after purchasing for work and twice the mouse has disconnected for unknown reasons. It is such an inconvenience when that happens, because the only way to get the mouse reconnected is to connect my wired mouse, navigate to settings and reconnect the mouse. Had I known I would be inconvenienced in such a way I would have considered another mouse. This is my first time purchasing a trackball mouse device; so, I am not sure if this is a normal occurrence. I have not had this type of issue with other wireless mouse devices, but they did not include a trackball. When it is connected it works great. Because of the occasional disconnect and inconvenience, I could not rate above FAIR.
