I was surprised to learn that the Logitech R500 that I received was not a new device. It was not described as an open box item or a refurbished item. Yet it arrived in a zip lock plastic bag with absolutely no printed matter(eg no identification of product name, no usage instructions, or anything about the unit). After searching the web to find the operating instructions, it does function well. Hopefully it will last.

The software for this devise wanted to take over all movements in my MacBook Pro computer. The software is invasive and no welcomed. The BluTooth interface worked well for a Mac Presentation slide show. That was seamless. The software wanting to take total control of the computer was not welcomed. It’s all uninstalled as the reach of this program was not welcomed.

This resented does the job. It’s nothing exceptional but I enjoy having this as a teacher. I can change slides from anywhere in the room and use the laser pointer to reference anchor charts from across the room. I wish I had splurged a little for the next level presenter. I’d enjoy a stronger laser (so it could be seen on a digital display) and cursor capabilities. But I enjoy this device for what it’s worth.

Older folks had a hard time using the old clicker we had at church. This one has made it easier for them. Just push the big button. Also, this one doesn’t take control of the mouse (don't know if possible with the software but we're just gonna leave it how it is without the software). Working great so far.

I have used multiple previous variations of Logitech presentation remotes, but this doesn't live up to my expectations. The laser is weak, though the buttons are nice. The largest problem is there is no battery indicator. The little LED will still light up so it seems like the device is working even when the batteries are too low to actually power the clicker properly. There should be some basic sensor built in to allow the LED to change to amber when the batteries are low and red when out.
I bought this yesterday after becoming quite frustrated with trying to manage a classroom and running up to the screen and touching it so the slide changes. What a difference it has made to student engagement! It fits perfectly in my hands and the shape is easy to hold. Love the soft touch. I can monitor and roam the class whilst presenting and changing slides. It works from anywhere within the classroom and the response is quick between the click and the slide changing - no lag. The laser pointer comes in handy to point out posters in the classroom from a given area. The only thing is, the pointer doesn't show up on the screen if I wanted to point something out on the slide. This could be just a case of the interactive whiteboard screen not allowing this? Plug and play worked immediately and as expected. Clicker fits nicely in the palm and buttons function as expected. The built in USB receiver holder is super nice and it’s easy to store and carry around in any bag. Software features to customize the buttons when held are handy.
It does what it says -- I can use it to step through a presentation, and the laser pointer works. The pointer dot is so small, though, that I often switch to one with a larger, brighter dot. But I don't need to stay close to the computer to advance the presentation, so even just that is handy. Also, power is provided by a small battery, so I don't have to worry about a charge running out.
I'll be honest, I purchased this mainly because it was the least costly unit that appeared worthy of trust. Opening the package, I had a concern: were was the little USB interface I needed to plug into my computer? And then what I saw was brilliant. The interface has its own little nest within the clicker, so that it need never be lost.Needlessly the unit worked flawlessly for my presentation and I'm certainly glad I purchased it.
