Finally I got this piece to add to my Middle Earth collection. It arrive fast and in great conditions. I was between the 4k boxset and this one, but the 4k one doesn't have all the extra material. 100% recommended

Been waiting for this edition for a long time. Just received my copy and it will be playing tonight. I prepared myself by again reading the wonderful book which I just finished again. So all is go for one of the best stories of all time now in HighDef BlueRay. And in responce to Johns review this Box set is the same all over the world juts the region coding is different. The New Zealand (UK Aussie) editon is 2.40:1 just as the USA edition. More research would have told you this ( I know this is not what the website said but more the Ape is allowed errors)

Agree with everything everyone else has said up to this point. All I would like to add... if (and when) you get this 'extended' trilogy.. go all the way and get "The Hobbit" extended trilogy as well. Not sure if The Hobbit came out in the same format as LotR..as the set I have came from the UK... featuring 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray extended versions..plus the "extras" on Blu-ray as well.
For the lovers of Tolkien's Literary Masterworks and Peter Jackson's Masterpiece films, this is an absolute must.Hours upon hours of behind the scenes footage and features, detailing the making of Jackson's films and discussing the works of Tolkien.Especially brilliant insight for fellow film industry and VFX-trained individuals - a lot of the Behind The Scenes terminology is not clarified for the layman.My one complaint is that, despite the exponentially increased capacity of Blu-Ray discs, they still put the extended films across two discs, meaning you have to switch half-way through your movie... but due to their length, the break is probably welcomed anyway.
I admit that I am very biased as I think this movie trilogy is the greatest movie ever made. Buying on bluray heightens the experience on a large TV. Everything visual and audio wise is so crisp and clean, I even noticed little things that I have not noticed before. I have 1 reservation. I bought to replace my DVD extended editions so I didn't have any interruptions to the movie experience, but unfortunately you still have to swap discs part way through.
I've been meaning to pick up the extended edition for a while now and I am so glad I did. I was a big LOTR fan before but this version just adds so much to the story. I recommend this to any Lord Of The Rings fan.
There's is little left to be said about LOTR. Suffice to say, if you haven't seen it, you should. Even if, in the grand scheme of things, you think it's just silly fantasy (which it's not) the love, care and attention to detail is self evident. Get the extended versions as not only do they tell a more complete story, they special features are practically a film school in a box. Getting the Blu-Ray version is also a must for fans. Not only is it now presented in full 1080p, but there's new unseen behind the scenes material by filmmaker Costa Boates. Sure .. it's really for the fanboys out there, but having such a pristine copy in my possession of all 3 films makes me very, very happy.
I bought this box set after moving out of home and then becoming isolated by COVID. I couldn’t stand the idea of not having my own copy of TLOR. I was a little bit skeptical due to it being an older release and it being advertised in HD but it was perfect! The quality is amazing!! I’m so happy with my purchase. I definitely recommend this box set!!
If you're thinking about picking up the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, than getting the blu ray extended version is well and truly every bit of extra money spent, especially if you get this at sale price. Bought mine last year and the upgrade from DVD was worth it, the extra features (appendices) and worth watching if you're a fan of the movies, and the extended scenes really add a lot more depth, especially if you're a fan of the books. If you're a Tolkien fan, it's a no brainer.
