Bought mine back in Feb 2022 to use on the kayak but couldn't use till nearly 6 months later due to a problem getting the waterproof thru-hull cable plugs I initially wanted/ordered. (For fellow kayakers out there - the Hobie ones are almost impossible to get atm so I went for the Wilderness Systems ones - less than a week shipping from Amazon Australia. Just use plenty of Sika marine sealant to get an even better seal). These units are great out-of-the-box to just plug in & start using but it pays to do your homework to get the most out of them if you've never used a fishfinder before, Now I've done that, watched many tutorials & tested it out on the water a bunch of times I'm pretty stoked with it. Compared to other brands there's a lot of bang for buck here. Not really using sidescan as much as I thought but that may come into its own later. By all accounts after you tweak the settings to your liking the downscan is comparable to more expensive models & using the fish reveal feature with it certainly highlights fish & structure very well. Being able to add the clock/time to the display is one simple feature I personally love. Added tips for kayakers - get a 12v regulator between the battery & fishfinder as the unit can shut off when battery power goes below 11-11.5v - well before your battery is out of juice. Also use the Standby feature as much as possible when not scanning to prolong battery life.

If you are on a budget, this is the one for you. Easy to use, easy to navigate the menu, clear screen. Has navigation maps.Negative: Power and transducer plugs aren’t the greatest when plugging them in.Touch screen would be so much better, like the HDS. (if you can afford it)

This is a great sounder. Installed myself. Went onto youtube and got all the lowdown on the best settings and followed the advice. Absolutely stoked with the product and it is so easy to use once you learn how to get around the menus. Downscan, sidescan, fishfinder and gps mapping what more would you need.

Heaps of features without the huge price tag
13 July 2021

Purchased the Lowrance Hook Reveal 7 Fish Finder Combo with Triple Shot Transducer for my kayak to upgrade from my Lowrance Elite 4x.Straight out of the box, it was super easy to install, with simple easy to follow instructions. Took it out for it's maiden test voyage on the weekend and found the interface very easy to use and the screen easy to read even in full sun with polaroids on.It's easy to add waypoints when you find fish holding structure and the sonar, downscan, sidescan and charts are easy to read and understand what you are looking at, even for a novice user and gives me all of the features I was looking for, without the huge price tag of the bigger models and other brands.Very happy with my decision to buy this model.

Looks like it will be a good sounder/ maps unit
31 January 2021

I've only been out with the Hook Reveal 7 twice now, first time the sounder wasn't working - the GPS/ maps part was OK but transducer wasn't working - advice in BCF shop suggested to default the unit. I did this, and all was OK next time out. I've only had one sounder before this one coincidentally a Lowrance (Elite 4), which was already fitted to previous boat. When I was looking at sounders for new boat, the display BCF had in store was excellent. I didn't find anywhere else that had such a good display of sounders. When I was in store there was a staff member there who knew sounders very well. My reason for buying this sounder was first my new boat was already fitted with Lowrance transducer, plus I was happy with the other Lowrance I had, but that one didn't ... MoreI've only been out with the Hook Reveal 7 twice now, first time the sounder wasn't working - the GPS/ maps part was OK but transducer wasn't working - advice in BCF shop suggested to default the unit. When I was in store there was a staff member there who knew sounders very well. My reason for buying this sounder was first my new boat was already fitted with Lowrance transducer, plus I was happy with the other Lowrance I had, but that one didn't have maps. Originally the boat dealer was going to provide a 5" Lowrance head unit, but when I mentioned I was interested to have maps, they suggested the bigger screen of 7" unit would be much better visually. This made perfect sense, so I was happy to go with the bigger unit. The dealer didn't have a 7" unit readily available and suggested I look at BCF to see the differences in screen sizes. I bought the 7" Combo unit from BCF, which the boat dealer fitted. Not being a fishing guy I can't advise on how good this unit is for fish finding, I can say the maps looks good, the 7" screen is good and fine in direct sun light. One thing I recall my Elite 4 did was allow bigger character size on screen for depth etc, where as this one with bigger screen surprisingly the character size choice I think is small and medium only, whereas the Elite had large font size as well. On price I did compare elsewhere but didn't find cheaper elsewhere. I'm happy to recommend this this unit, and also buying it from BCF, and also suggest checking out BCF for the excellent Sounder display they have (I bought from Caloundra store).

Lowrance Hook Reveal 7
11 May 2022

Works fine for inshore work, still testing out all the features but fairly easy to understand and navigate the keypad and functions.Decent picture on screen that is still visible in full sun., was getting bad interference and clutter on screen while moving that just required some adjustments and repositioning of the transducer.Have only used a few times, but is good value for money. So far seems to be a good unit for the price, and more than capable for most inshore fishing applications

Lowrance hook reveal 7 - great unit
11 November 2021

I purchased the hook reveal 7 as an upgrade from an old fish finder. The unit has paid for itself already with the good charting options and quality sonar. The unit is far better than the old finder that i had.The only regret is not getting the elite or hds for the touch and engine intergration. The screen is clear in all the light variations encountered thus far.The catch has increased since change over.

Lowrance Hook Reveal 7x GPS Only with SplitShot Transducer: I'm still learning, but getting better with every trip on the water. The Youtube tutorials (Lowrance Training Academy, the webinar post and other clips) have been very helpful and I have been able to customise many of the features to suit my personal preferences. The user interface is excellent (logical) and easily manageable whilst fishing on the water, and having the device attached on an Railblaza Swing Arm mount was an excellent idea given my pedal kayak situation. This has been a great product for assisting my entry into kayak fishing.

This has no charts!!!
6 November 2022

Despite all the confusing terminology and screenshots. This doesnt have any charts!!! JUST GPS. which if you think about it is a waste of time in the ocean. I need the safety of knowing the depth of the waters around me. But this device doesnt have it. It should be a lot clearer on the box... THIS DEVICE DOESNT HAVE CHARTS!! Plus when you turn it on and try and scan the QR code it doesnt work!!! Ive just brought something totally worthless for me and just paid to have it installed... totally gutted and feel like an idiot!!!! There goes $1100 down the drain!!

Why spend more? It’s great.
17 October 2021

Straight out of the box it is brilliant. There is no need to spend $1000+ on over gimmicky Sounders as these features are the ones you really use on a day to day trip. Touchscreens are great but if your like me are always have wet, salty, bait goop and sunscreen on your hands you will have marks on your screen that ruin the high definition you paid extra for.Bottom line it’s very good value for your buck.Noosa, Qld
