I bought this guitar in 2010 and it has been my main rig since. I bought it as a backup guitar to my ESP Horizon, which is my prized possession, but this EC401 never felt like it lacked any of the charisma the Horizon has. Surely, it's not quite as well constructed, but take that as no indication of build quality. This is beautifully constructed actually, with no real areas of weakness. The Horizon is just faultless, being a custom Japanese model. The first time I held one i was sold. Great weight, great resonance, great sustain, great playabilty. This thing absolutely shreds. The only things I've done to it are satin finish the neck and locking tuners. I have never, and will never regret this purchase, nor will I ever sell it. I've had no issues at all. Beautiful design, excellent neck joint shape as well lets you reach the upper frets like there isn't even a joint there at all! I love the finish of the guitar, it really is a piece of art, its a classic iconic les paul shape with ESP's touch of modern to it, thin, light weight, and truly mean looking. I love ESP's take on the classic les paul shape over the PRS, Shecter, and Ibanez versions, I even like it way better then the Original Les Paul shape. I never liked the les paul shapes until I saw ESP's version, I instantly fell in love with their sharper looking version. ESP and LTD really did it right with this guitar. The guy talking about fret buzz either doesn't have the action set correctly or just straight up can't play guitar. If you keep thinking about it, just do it and buy it already.

I always wanted an ESP and after a lot of research I decided on this one as ideal for my needs. I mostly play at home but this sounds amazing through my Marshall. Pickups are great and it has a really nice shiny finish with the cream outlines. Feels nice to play, though the weighting makes it a bit difficult when sitting it is totally comfortable standing up. PMT next day delivery was really good, well packaged too.

EC-401 = 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻
7 July 2021

Amazing guitar. Was thinking about getting the EC-1000 but decided to save some money with the EC-401. Happy I did this guitar is amazing! The EMGs are freaking amazing and the playability of this guitar, especially with the thin neck, is through the roof. Highly HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking into this guitar. I cannot say enough about how silky smooth this guitar is. Feels and plays like it belongs in a much higher price range for sure.

Exceptionally well built guitar for this price point

This is no doubt one of the best guitars I now own and I own eight. My seven string Matt Heafy Epiphone Les Paul and my Fender Strat were at the top and this now sits right beside them. The quality of this thing is great. The neck joint is also very impressive on this thing. My only complaint is the neck pickup. I am not a fan of the EMG 60 pickup. That is just me and I new this going into the purchase. I personally prefer the EMG 85 neck pickup. Again, this is personal preference and I knew this going into the purchase. Why was I ok with this? The 60 is still a quality pickup and at this price point this is an amazing guitar. The body is thinner than my Epiphone Les Paul so the total weight is a bit lighter. The 60 is still a quality pickup and at this price point this is an amazing guitar. The body is thinner than my Epiphone Les Paul so the total weight is a bit lighter. Both bodies are made of mahogany and both guitars have an EMG 81 in the bridge but this guitar is a little brighter and the Epiphone has a bit more bass. A lot of people will argue that active pickups (especially EMG) sound the same no matter what guitar they are in. This is not entirely true as I need to adjust my EQ just a little when swapping guitars out. On another note, this was actually set up kind of nice out of the box but I still had to pay another 60 bucks for a setup. Minor things like having the nut shaved needed to be done. My guitar is setup for C# standard tuning/Drop B and this guitar is perfect for it. I foresee myself purchasing this guitar in the Black Cherry stain in the near future. I may also be swapping the 60 for the 85. I am not sure yet because I also love the EMG Het-Set. But that is another $250 vs $100. Anyway, if you are looking for a great guitar out of the box, one that will play great, sounds great, and feels great, this is the guitar. Like I said, I only paid another $60 for a setup and $6 or so for a new pack of strings since I was changing tuning. I am using 12-56 not even slinky strings but the 24p is an aweful string so I had to swap that out. The tension on bottom two strings is a little tight for me so next time I will go with 11-56, maybe the D'Addario NYXL 11-56 set. Bottom line, but this guitar! It is totally worth it!

It would be great if it actually worked
15 April 2022

I received the guitar without a working jack. I could not plug into it. I was able to open it up and bend the jack receiver back into place to where I could plug in. Then, just 2 weeks later, the guitar doesn't work at all. I plug into my amp just to get a choppy connection.I really wish guitar center would test the guitar to make sure it actually works before shipping it off. Very disappointing experience.

Look no further, this is the one!

ESP has done an amazing job with this guitar. The fit and finish from top to bottom, front and back were perfect. I bought mine in the satin desert sage and I absolutely love the color. Pictures don't come close so doing it justice. As far as tone and sustain, this guitar is outstanding. While the active emg pickups may not be for everyone, with heavier gauge strings and the right amp settings this thing throws some seriously heavy tones and has great sustain. The setup out of the box only needed some slight tuning but the intonation was spot on and the action is superb. This guitar is easily deserving of the five star rating I have given it. If you are looking for a sleek single cut guitar, look no further, this is the one!

This guitar is a joy to play due to the shape of the neck and the tone it produces. Love the EMG humbuckers, especially the 81 at the bridge. Great for rock and metal! Included pics of the satin finish and the battery compartment for the active pick ups/

Very Good Quality Guitar!
26 August 2021

The ESP LTD EC-401 is a very high quality instrument. I have no buyers remorse. It's better than I expected. I really can't see paying insultingly high prices for a similar "authentic" guitar when this one is reasonably priced and superior. 24 frets, reinforced headstock, EMG pickups, hard poly finish. No "authentic" guitar has those 21st century features.I will probably buy another ESP/LTD eventually. For now, I'm enjoying the EC-401!

Got a level 1 mint on this while it was on sale that made the price even lower. Best 4 bills I've spent on a guitar in a while. Only problem when I received was that in the bridge only position, both pickups were still on. I know a bit about guitars, so I opened the cover to the 3 way switch and found that some solder was making connection where it should not. So I used a small flat head screwdriver and pried between the two and separated this connection and just like that I have a fully functional guitar. The fretwork is perfect. Many of these South Korean made guitars are made very well. Smooth satin neck makes changing fingering positions effortless. Either way has everything else I would want: mahogany body with maple top, extra jumbo frets with 12 inch radius, and grover tuners. Great guitar, it's a keeper. I once had a Will Adler camo guitar like this one and always missed the fretwork and how the neck felt. Glad to have another EC-401 in my hands again.
