I have been using this product for years. It is probably the most reliable eyeshadow primer I’ve used. I love how it neutralizes any veins or discoloring on the eye lids and can be worn on its own as a shadow or as a shadow base. The painterly colour is a perfect light pink neutral shade. It’s flattering with my light-medium skin tone and blue-green eyes. The smallest amount is all you need to apply and use as a eyeshadow base. I use my finger to warm up the product and gently tap and press it into my eyelid. Wait until it’s dry and then go in and apply your eyeshadows on top. It doesn’t crease and it acts like a glue for your powder shadows. I’ve also used it to cut crease and it is a nice texture to do so with.

If I could give this a 20 out of five I would. By far my favorite and most used product in my arsenal. When I have zero time to get out of the house the very least I can do is take a sponge and put it on my eyelids. I call it getting the dead out of my eyes. And ever since then any girl who's visited with me or lived with me or even vacation with me and has seen me do that who also has the same skin color borrows it from me everyday until they go get their own. And I don't just mean it's for every single white girl, but it really helps those of us who sometimes, okay all the time, have to pull all nighters or work 60 hours a week look like we aren't going to pass out. Plus it holds my eyeshadow on very, very well. I have to have how to say a hot day in hell before I ... MoreIf I could give this a 20 out of five I would. Not just saying this, but it really is my favorite and probably most important makeup piece.

I have this MAC Paint Pot in the shade Painterly and use it as an easy eye shadow primer and concealer. This shade is very similar to my natural skin tone and the creaminess of the formula allows for seamless blending into my skin. This nicely cancels out discoloration on my eyelids and for a very natural look I will use just this to even out my eyes. As a primer, this keeps eyeshadow on for hours, but it does not help to brighten eyeshadows or enhance the color, so I only use this for soft neutral looks and reach for other bases when I need something that pops. This small container has lasted me a long time, and you need very little because of the creamy texture that allows you to glide this on. I jumped on the MAC Paint Pot train about 4 years ago and have been repurchasing since. If you long lasting eyeshadow that won’t fall out, this is a great product. I am not a huge fan of glitter glue, and actually use the Paint Pot instead. The consistency is creamy, but not drippy…it’s almost on a firm end. I do have a few upgrades that I think would make it the best of the best. First, I wish there was either a tube version or something so you aren’t left with having to use your fingers..or even provide a small spatula. I love that it doesn’t crease, though. This is a full coverage and a lighter color will make your eyeshadow more vibrant. All and all, great eyeshadow primer!

I was influenced by this product back in the day when influencers were really pushing it. I have to say there are things that I like and things that I don't like about it. I do like that it is opaque like a concealer. It allows me to carve out my eyeshadow when I'm doing cut creases. The formula is creamy and eyeshadow lays on top of it nicely. My biggest problem with this product is it dries out way too quickly. I always secure the lid on nice and tight but within a few months it starts to dry out. Once it starts to dry out the product becomes less creamy and doesn't smooth out as easily. It's unfortunate because for the first few months I actually really enjoy this product. The price point is quite expensive for what it is and considering how quickly it dries out, ... MoreI was influenced by this product back in the day when influencers were really pushing it. *I kept getting an error message when trying to write my review on the other paint pot listing, so I’m writing it here instead.* I recently repurchased this Mac Pro Longwear Paint Pot in the shade Groundwork. After finishing up my last pot, I knew I needed to pick up another because of how frequently I reach for this. While I have tried a lot shades of the paint pot, I mostly would use those for priming the eyes. Whereas with this shade, I actually use it as an all over lid color that I can slap on really quick still look like I tried on my makeup. It’s a really beautiful mid-tone neutral brown/taupe shade. It just looks really pretty as a one and done shade but also can work as a base. I really enjoy the paint pot formula find it easy to work with. Disappointing
10 February 2023

My friend has been swearing by this product for years so I finally decided to give it a try. For reference, I have the painterly color and I'm a medium shade. I've tried using it alone, dabbing my eyes with blotting paper beforehand, setting it with powder and/or spray, with and without powder shadow over it, and it creases just as much as shadow without primer on.The color makes my eyelids kind of grey, which I don't mind since I bought it to use as a base anyway. I do like the way powder shadow blends over it and it makes shadows more vibrant, however, it just creases within an hour. I've tried putting on the colourpop eye primer on under it and that just made it more patchy.I'm going to try to make this work but so far, after trying about 7 times, it's a no ... MoreMy friend has been swearing by this product for years so I finally decided to give it a try. I'm wondering if I just got a bad batch or something since I haven't seen many other people experience the same issue.

Formula changed
25 January 2023

I've used Paint Pots since 2012. I can't speak to the current mattes, but Vintage Selection in particular is not the same stiff, long-lasting, Crease-resistant formula it once was. It is really bad now. The formula is slick and thin and applies very sheer. It doesn't spread across the lid evenly. It's patchy and the fine Glitter particles stay stuck in certain spots. It creases and fades significantly faster than it used to. The color seems the same, but it looks awful on the eyes. Such a shame as this used to be a go-to neutral shade for me. I also bought Babe In Charms and it's the same story... Horrible application, thin, slick formula that doesn't built on itself and it's patchy. I don't have oily or dry eyelids. My old Vintage Selection still works better than this new one. So disappointed. I hope the mattes are still OK.

Great one and done shadow
23 March 2023

I purchased the shade bougie and absolutely love it. I apply it on the lid with my finger from lash line to crease and then blend out the edges with a round fluffy brush. The edges show the red brown color in the crease. I then Pat more of the shadow on the lower lid to build up the blue duochrome that fades a bit when blending the crease. It looks as though you applied two shadows. I receive compliments when wearing this shade. I also have the painterly and soft ochre that I use as an eyeshadow base. I love them for that purpose. They work well, don't crease and the shadows last all day.

Minimalist skin tone eyelid shade
28 March 2023

Not only was I looking for a shadow primer, but I wanted a shade that matched my skin tone for a minimalist kind of day. Voila, this 3-in-one product (primer, eyeshadow, concealer) is an excellent product. The shade "Contemplative State" is almost the exact shade of my eyelids. It is buildable & covers dark circles with the greatest of ease. I can wear it under eyeshadows or by itself. The creamy texture glides on the lids & sets well. You have time to blend it out. I use a matching powder eyeshadow on top & it truly brightens my eye area. I highly recommend this product.
