Upon first opening the package I could not believe how well built this mic was. Strong outer body but an amazing sound. I super satisfied and this price point is ridiculous. The EM-91C will be around for a long time. Mackie does it again.

A good mic for general recording at a non-pro level

Overall:In a world where most cheaper condenser mics have brittle highs and excess sibilance boosted to give the appearance of an airy sound, it's nice to find one that has been designed for the user who wants a bit more width than a dynamic will provide without much fussing to EQ and De-Ess. This mic has a warmer sound with a bit of mud in the lows, which is easy to EQ out. It tames sibilance. I suggest a high pass from around 90hz, and reducing at your choice in the 200hz to 500hz range. If you still feel this mic too warm, then lift a few db around 3k, and add a little air above 8k. But for the typical low-price buyer who wants a bit more sound than a dynamic, without having to get too close, this mic works well. Its pattern is between cardiod and supercardiod, so you don't pick up as much room noise as with something such as an AT2020 or 2035. The bass on the AT mics is richer and more detailed, however the Mackie provides a good forward sound to my voice which does well in Zoom meetings and recorded teaching videos. I do EQ a bit, as mentioned above, but you can get by without it and the general public wouldn't be bothered. This is a better choice than cheaper condensers by unknown or fly-by-night manufacturers. It is easier to boost EQ on its warm output than to reduce the shrill mess created by other cheap mics.

Great Mic for the Money
15 April 2020

I bought this because I tired of using an SM58 for recording vocals on demos. It sounds great, has a flat response curve, and appears very well built. I do have to use a gate because it is very sensitive--never had to do that with a 58. Cannot evaluate live performance --covid 19 killed all our gigs. I wish they made one at this price point with omni or multiple patterns.

It's well-built and sounds good for the price. It won't blow you away but is more than what I was hoping for.

Great voice mic
28 October 2020

Great voice microphone for the money. All you need to do with it is add a high pass (low cut) filter around 90 to 100 hz and Bob's your uncle. This mic is great for voice because the sibilants are already adjusted for. I don't think it would work as well for music, but this is really a great voice mic, and doesn't require a lot of work to make it sound good on voice. Most cheap Chinese mics out there in this price range have that high whispy sound that gets worse with a little compression. This mic does not, and I like that.I also learned that this mic does really well on Zoom if you cut the lows and highs just a little (Zoom penalizes mics that have too much bass or too many highs by trying to compensate, which distorts the audio).

Mackie Quality
9 July 2021

Just got it today and did some recording. So far I'm very impressed with this mic. I was looking at a Tascam in the same price rage, but chose Mackie because of it's rugged quality, I'm very glad I did!Vocals were clear and crisp and had some nice bottom end if you get a bit closer to the mic. I purchased this for a music program I'm starting with a nonprofit and I'm looking forward to getting there to see the reaction of the folks there. I know they will be excited! We had to shut down because of COVID and I'm very happy to be back!I was very surprised by the quality of the provided cable as well. Usually you get really cheap cables, but this is very nice quality, the shock mount is really nice and study as well.I don't think you could beat this mic in this ... MoreJust got it today and did some recording. Ordered a Second One!!!
14 May 2021

I forayed into music production late last year and purchased a cheap dog USB condenser mic in hopes of getting better sound. Wasn't happy with it so I continued to record vocals on my phone (it's CLEAR). I figure with audio equipment, you get what you pay for. Not with this! I saw some funky reviews for the USB version of this mic but I ordered my first one a few weeks ago and ran it through my PreSonus interface. I have L/R XLR inputs so I ordered a second for the right channel for stereo sound. Wooooo. Crispy! So excited to record vocals, voiceovers, etc. I still get minimal noise, but a quick noise filter in Audition does the trick. Shout out to Beach Camera for the extremely fast (and free) shipping both times. They're in NJ and I'm in NY but still... @onehipsista
