Good day pack, feels robust and sturdy. Extra handle on top part is quite handy to grab.Laptop compartment is fine for a small unit, soft padding around it should help against light impact.Only minor issue is the mesh fabric on the lower part already looks worn out after one week trip as that section rubs against my belt and clothing constantly during the walk - luckily it is not visible by others when you wear it.

These bags have steadily decreased in quality over the years. I have bought multiple versions of this bag over the years. My most recent purchase did not match the version in the photo was of poorer quality and less features. I won't be shopping Macpac again.

This bag too me is almost the perfect backpack. It's a quality product that's the right size. It often amazes me how much it holds.I've had mine for I don't know how long, 4-5yrs, and it's still in great shape, especially given I use it most days.It doesn't have any unused and annoying straps, weird pockets, or anything else that companies seem to add to bags for whatever reason. It's simple, without being too simple, that is it has a couple of compartments to hold a phone, keys, or other small bits and pieces that may get lost in a bag. However the only downside, for me anyway, is it doesn't have something to hold a water bottle. Fantastic design and manufacture. This is the most comfortable backpack I have ever owned. It fits really snug against the curve of my back so even when packed full it still feels light. There is no waist strap, but with the fabulous design and shape, I don't need one. I thought I might miss the external pockets for my water bottle, but I have found it is fine to pack the water inside. The pockets inside the zipped compartments stop all the little things, like car keys, falling to the bottom. I did not think that six months after buying a backpack that I would be getting back online to sing its praises. Great work, Macpac.
As the Kahu 22 liter has been discontinued (strange decision since this was the classic in Macpacs' line-up), I decided to try the Kahuna 18. Good backpack overall. Although the rip-stop vinyl is light- weight, the indestructible canvas of the Kahu was a superior material. The phone pocket in the smaller front compartment of the Kahu, has surprisingly also been removed.Despite these issues the Kahuna 18 feels like a quality product.
I bought this pack in a new colour to replace my old one when the straps perished. It had served me well! It’s the same great size for a daily commute, but I miss the mesh pockets in the outer compartment :(
Super lightweight and cleverly designed with functional pockets. Sleeve for laptop, iPad is well padded. Loads of room for a jacket, drink bottle, snacks and whatever else you need to take. Comfortable to wear and easy to use zips. Collapses to flat for storage and all the usual hallmarks of Macpac quality. Well done again, Macpac!
I got this as I expected it to be the same as the one I got a 3 years ago but the material it's made from is different (seems thinner) and there is no inside compartments (for phone and pens etc) within the outer pocket and there's one less inside compartment in the main part of the bag. There were no pictures of the inside of the bag so I had no way of knowing it was different. Definitely not as functional.
This is my 3rd daypack from Macpac (also have the Kahu). The design is simple without those stupid attached external pockets and trinkets, the opening wide to easily access the interior, great devider where I put a water bladder. Fabric is sturdy and the contoured shoulder straps long enough even for a larger chest.I use mine mostly for motorcycle riding
Well designed pack with plenty of pockets and places to put small items for easy access. Comfy harness. However, as with many other Macpac products, the quality of manufacture is not what it used to be. After only a few years of use, the stitching on one shoulder strap has come apart so the foam inner keeps coming out to the point where it's no longer usable. One again I'm in the market for a new day pack, and am wondering whether to take a punt on another one, or just get something that's made to last.
