Unfortunately after 4 years of little to moderate use the raincoat has started to delaminate resulting in my getting very wet in moderate rainfall. Its been cleaned, reproofed and hung up correctly and has probably only had 30+ days spent stowed in a pack over the 4 years. This is the second (expensive) raincoat I have sourced from Macpac with problems - the latter leaked from the very start through poor seam construction. I am a fan of Macpac and my light weight raincoat has been fine to date but I'm wary of a further purchase of a full length product.

Hello. This jacket is just okay. 678g for a men's XL. So a good tramping weight jacket, in between a light jacket which will leak, and a 1kg+ hunting jacket, which won't leak, but too heavy for tramping tripsGreat long length. Used today for first time. Water beads and runs off well.Zip is a pain as per other reviews. When I squatted down to tie boot laces, zip started to undo itself from the bottom! As it has two zippers on it, jacket can unzip from top and bottom, which is a terrible weakness in a garment designed to stay zipped up!I found i could do zippers up okay, as I'm used to this trick from sleeping bags. Presumably next seasons jacket will have just one zipper, sensibly.Otherwise, I stayed dry walking in moderate cold nor West rain on the flat, ... MoreHello. So it appeared to breath, although I wasn't wearing a pack, or walking up hill, so just a basic water proofness test really.Pockets large and useful.Okay jacket to buy on sale!

Decent but not great.

Macpac replaced my first jacket after the waterproofing seemed to fail in a moderate rain. Second jacket now, initially water beaded nicely off. However, after about 30/45 min in a decent rain, my jumper was wet and the pockets of the jacket were soaked. Admittedly, the front, hip pockets could have been run off from my sleeves but the chest pockets wasn’t opened until returning in from the rain where I discovered water and a wet phone. Weight is fantastic, zip doesn’t bother me but disappointed with the level of alleged waterproofing.

First impressions, a very good jacket which is worthy of the Macpac heritage.
14 June 2022

Only had the jacket for 3-4 weeks so far, but it has been out the rain (briefly) in Anger. First impressions are it has many different adjustments available to suit lots of different body shapes and/or preferences in the way it is worn. Yes the main zip is not foolproof, but I have found it rewards me being precise and accurate in the way I approach it. Once the two parts are engaged I have never had problem with the zip. Time will tell whether in the cold with gloves it will be impossibly fiddly. Did think perhaps a larger gauge zipper might be better, but would that compromise waterproofing? The other issue (the chin flap) is there but doesn't bother me, I appreciate the function it fulfills and haven't found it too much of a nuisance.Overall it is comfortable to ... MoreOnly had the jacket for 3-4 weeks so far, but it has been out the rain (briefly) in Anger. Good, but not ideal
29 August 2019

I bought the jacket a couple of months ago mainly to be used in the winter/rain Sydney season. I'm very happy with fit, protection against rain and wind, quality of materials and manufacturing. It overall has premium feel and nice look. Having said that, there are two not so nice "features" I have to point out:- main zipper is very difficult to fasten, the two small parts need to be aligned perfectly together and the material around is quite stiff, making it challenging especially in rainy and windy weather. Forget if you wear gloves.- there's a piece of soft fabric that is supposed to protect your chin and mouth when the jacket is zipped up. Unfortunately if you don't zip it to the very top, it sticks out and if it's raining a bit it gets immediately wet. I couldn't find any way to tuck it inside the jacket and I'm seriously considering cutting it out.

Great hiking coat.
22 May 2023

This coat has been perfect for hiking, reasonably light considering how warm and waterproof it is. The hood with the peak is great to help keep rain off your face, and the longer length is perfect to cover your bottom and even able to sit on. Drys well in a hut overnight. Love the large pockets on the outside, and the chest pocket to keep phone or map dry.

Great tough jacket for tramping.
10 August 2023

Tough waterproof jacket. The longer cut keeps you much dryer. Good range of pockets with great open pockets for putting your hands in on cold days. The hood fits well and I have stayed totally dry in this jacket over the last few months even in heavy rain. My only issue is the very small pull tab on the main zip which makes it hard to operate the main zip - especially with gloves on. I have replaced mine with a larger pull tab from an old jacket. Very happy and I hope to have this jacket for many years.

Love the double ended zip - and everything else
5 October 2022

I love this jacket.I wore it on the Tasmania South Cost trail every day for 8 days. It coped with heavy rain, howling wind and at times lots of sweat. It also coped with my heavy pack, and scraping through all sorts of scrub without showing a mark. The hood is great (I did wear a peaked cap under it often, which may have helped when it was cinched down). It can protect your lower face too. The drawstring around the waist has a clever design that lets the sides fold down flat without bunching. The pockets are great (though naturally less accessibly with a big pack on).People have complained about the double ended zip - I love this feature and resist buying any jacket without it. I have no problem using it and would hate to see it removed. Its so useful for ... MoreI love this jacket.I wore it on the Tasmania South Cost trail every day for 8 days. Its so useful for ventilation, or accessing your belt etc.The storm flap is also well made, and allows tacking the jacket closed with the velcro alone if you don't need to get fully armored up.I wear a small whilst being tall (188cm) but skinny. It is still plenty long enough in the arms, with room for some layers. Its a great fit for me without feeling like a tent.

Resolute by name
27 December 2022

Quick review after a month of Scottish winter 2022. Bombproof garment. Pertex shield has snow, sleet and rain just bead off. Handwarmer pockets behind flap pockets great, likewise two internal pockets. Hood protects well and will easily accommodate a hat or helmet. I got the XXL which is fine over a baselayer but also allowed me to wear a down jacket underneath when -12C. The length of the jacket effectively keeps thighs completely dry. All in all superb jacket. Not perhaps a fashion jacket but a jacket I feel confident to don whatever weather I may venture out into. Unfortunately very difficult to get Macpac kit in the UK

Resolution Coat Pockets
23 March 2023

The things I really respect about my resolution coat design is it has a excellent deep and adjustable hood and has a reasonable length in body, just another 5cm would be better). It has has very good lightness (but this should never come at the expense of waterproofness. It appears well waterproof so far, but that must be maintained for a 50-60 tramps, over 5+ years. My only issue is the waistline pockets - they are open from the rear and rain water enters there and sits, which will leak as the fabric ages - I dont think any coat should have places where water ponds. Otherwise, it a good coat and keep up the good work for our outdoor life!
