These are the BEST athletic shoes for orthotics! Before I found the New Balance 990v4s, I had trouble finding a comfortable athletic shoe that alowed my orthotics fit inside without my heel being positioned too high in the shoe, thus not getting a proper heel fit. The 990v4s fit my heal great. They are also the most comfortable shoe for a person with very flat feet. I can walk around or stand for quite a while without foot discomfort. Also, I have weak ankles, and these shoes give my feet great stability. I also love that they are made in America! The new pair that I ordered was the same fit, comfort and quality of the shoes that I perchased 8 years ago. I have been wearing 990v4 Core for over 10 years. Last year I needed to get a new pair of sneakers and the 990v4 was not available! I was sold the v6 and told there were just cosmetic changes. Not true! The shoe did not fit my foot at all like the v4. It actually hurt my foot and I was told I needed a bigger size. The shoe was still uncomfortable, but now it shifted all over because it was really too big. I was SOOOO thrilled to see the v4 back! I actually bought 2 pair, in my old size and they were perfect right out of the box. I know they will not be available forever, and that makes me sad. Someone told me it is the best selling shoe in the world. Why not keep it forever? Sometimes change for the sake of change is silly. I love my 990v4 Core. I walk 2-5 miles ... I'm bored at the office, so I've got some time. The shoe is much cheaper than the original, the 990v5, and the 993. For example, the suede is thinner all around the shoe. You can see this where the mesh meets the suede in various areas. The midsole is a lot harder also. There is more exposed glue, and stitching issues. Also, the tongue is super thin and flimsy. This might be a nitpick, but the mesh feels cheaper, maybe it is more durable, but it definitely feels cheaper. Finally, the shoe is so much less comfortable than the 990v5s and the 993s. I understand that inflation and supply chain issues are plaguing every manufacturer, but this is not an acceptable reason to make the shoes lower quality. I have two pairs of new 990v5s and two pairs of 993s from 2015. When I compare them to the 990v4 Core the 990v4 Core feel like Chinese knockoffs. You really notice the low quality of the shoe when you compare them to other 990s. They almost feel hollow when compared to the 990v5. Overall, very disappointed with the shoe even though I got 2 pairs for 235.What was the point? You used your goodwill and reputation to sell a shoe that was known for quality, but you made them terribly. You're not going to be able to use that goodwill in the future because people are going to associate the core line or any rereleases with crap quality. People might also impute this shameless low-quality strategy with future releases like the 990v7. It's pretty short sighted. If yall sold me a good shoe then I would've purchased the 990v5 when they were eventually released. Yall took 235 from me once. I guess it makes sense in that you probably made better margins than if yall had actually tried to make a good quality shoe. But, now I'm not going to buy any core 990s. You eked out a little more profit to eschew future profit. Anyway, I got them on sale for 117.50 so I'm not too mad, because at 117.50 they are def worth that price.TL;DR the shoe is really low quality and Im not gonna buy 990 core anymore. I would say they are worth the buy if you get them for around 120. Anymore than that would be better spent else where.

I recently purchased a pair of New Balance 990v4 sneakers, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. These shoes offer an unbeatable combination of comfort and style. The cushioning is superb, providing support for long walks or runs, and the fit is perfect, ensuring my feet stay comfortable all day. Moreover, the sleek design and the quality materials make these sneakers versatile for both athletic activities and everyday wear. New Balance has truly delivered a fantastic product!!
I have had 3 pairs of the 990 v4 in various colors throughout the years and have loved every pair with my heart. Sadly, after wearing them daily because they are comfortable, I have run them to the ground. After a couple years of v4 not being available for purchase anymore, I was thinking I was never going to be able to get that new shoe spark again. I found out this version was being sold again, so I immediately went to purchase it. After unboxing, I was sad to say that I was let down. My attention to detail really brought out the flaws. A couple comments: the pigskin looks the same but feels thinner and has more give than the former. The toe spring angle is very weak compared to the former (included pictures). The more you wear a shoe, the flatter the sole will become, and the toe angle will gradually decrease anyway, so having a prominent toe angle to begin with helps. The lip of the shoe is basically mesh material with no padding, unlike the former’s which had plenty padding. I tend to tie my shoes tight so they don't slip around. Having a padded lip helps the shoelaces not dig into my foot. The representative on the phone said that this "rerelease" was actually just stock that had been uncovered at the warehouse, and I might have gotten a bad batch. I will return and reorder in hopes of having the same quality and craftsmanship as before.
These shoes are very comfortable. This is the 4th pair I have bought. I am on concrete all day long and these have been the most comfortable shoes I have found for all day on the concrete. I never thought I would pay this much for a pair of shoes, and still can't believe I do. I have tried cheaper shoes in between, but keep going back. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the price, but nobody makes me pay it so, I guess I should give 5, but it still hurts me to pay $200.00 for a pair of shoes, but not as bad as the concrete hurts my feet in other shoes. So I will say 5 stars on comfort, 4 on price (that I keep paying)
The 990v4 is by far the best version of the 990 ever released. The 5's are "okay", but do not have the same comfort or support. The v6's are a totally different shoe cannot even wear it. I was so excited when they re-released the v4. I ran to my local store to get some. Sadly, not only do they not come in women's sizes any more, they do not come in wide widths. I tried wearing them because I love the shoe so much, but it hurts my bunion so badly, I had to take them off. I don't know what to replace my 990's with now.
I have to agree with the material be questionable or let me just be honest, really needs improvements. The pigskin on the left shoe looked extremely old and worn out and the right shoe looked better. But, I could not keep these shoes with how ugly that left shoe looked. Also, the left shoe was very uncomfortable and felt a lump inside the shoe. I have been really disappointed lately with all of the shoes I'm trying. Maybe they need to hire new people to make their shoes.
I purchased this show as a gift for my niece & she loves them. Initially, we ordered the wrong size but we headed to Tanger Outlets and a young lady immediately assisted us as we walked through the door. The young lady resized her foot sized, and led us to Andre to reorder the shoe in the correct size. The customer service was Top Tier! Andre let us know what the process would look like and she received them in a timely fashion. I was pleased from beginning to end.
I have been wearing a woman’s wide version of the sneaker for many years now. It has been my go to shoe and really the only one that works with my orthotics. Now they have discontinued women’s sizing and have changed to unisex with no wide option. I am so disappointed in the direction that new balance is taking. We no longer can get the custom color sneakers made and now apparently women’s shoes don’t even fit into the equation. In case New balance is not sure women’s feet are not the same as men’s feet. I don’t want to, but it looks like I’m going to have to find a new sneaker and it won’t be made in the United States, which is an extreme disappointment to me.
