This is a good, solid, robust machine that is beautifully designed and exudes quality It makes quick, light work of any slicing, dicing, mincing, mixing, whisking and pureeing jobs, although you have to factor in the cleaning up afterwards so only really helps for medium to large quantities. My disappointment, though, is with the dough hook as I make all my own bread. It is the only reason I haven't given it that fifth star. Recipes for doughs call for just 30secs to 1 minute of kneading because the processor works at such speed (and, apparently, because of the design of the hook). I just don't find this produces a good dough and end up kneading by hand until I'm happy with it. Given the cleaning up time, for a single loaf it is quicker to do it all by hand. I had purchased the larger model to accommodate a full 1kg loaf, but I doubt if I'll use it much, if at all, for that and could have got away with the smaller model. It may still be useful for those odd occasions when I'm making several different doughs for larger gatherings. I really don't think I'd trust if for pastry, but I might give it a go. However, I also wanted to experiment with bigas (which are difficult and time consuming by hand) and it did prove a better bet for this. A 'slow' setting would be really useful although I suspect it's not possible given the way the motor works (and the direct drive motor is what makes the magimix such a good, reliable machine). I knew a stand mixer would be better for doughs but don't have room for both and the magimix remains the better compromise. The things it does well it does really well and the big range of discs and other bits makes it a very useful item in the kitchen, albeit that it won't be used as often as I would like.

I haven't been a fan of food processors up to now even though I love cooking, because I had never invested in a decent one. I took the plunge over Christmas and I am so glad I did. It takes a while to study the different parts and get it working, but the book is very helpful with this. Most days my Magimix helps me with shredding and slicing for soups, quiches, and veggies for Sunday. Yesterday I made pastry with it and although it takes a bit of getting right because it's more difficult to judge, it was so quick! This morning I made a smoothie, which I had not been in the habit of doing, but will now become a ritual, it was so delicious and a great way of getting fruit into people who don/'t eat it otherwise! I am overwhelmed with how much difference this has made ... MoreI haven't been a fan of food processors up to now even though I love cooking, because I had never invested in a decent one. We have recently replaced our 25 year old magimix food processor with this updated model. The old one still worked well but, understandably after so long, we were no longer able to buy a replacement lid. The new one is excellent but still has so d of the same frustrating flaws in design. Mainly they relate to the fact that using the small and medium sized bowls still sprays food so that it’s necessary to wash at least two bowls after use. Also the feeder has to be used to make the machine function and its design means a more complex wash and dry than necessary. The actual procrsssing functions are still top quality.

I would agree with the reviewer who is in disbelief of the poor mark given by the individual whose plastic bowl broke during a move. Go to the Magimix Certified Replacement Parts site and order a new part. https://www.cuisineparts.com/index.html. We have had our Magimix from WS for over 15 years and it still works great. Our Magimix has gone through 4 moves with us. We use it frequently, have once replaced the bowl and are just now replacing the bowl cover because of cracks from heavy use. A new part is approx $50 but a good new food processor is at least several hundred dollars. The Magimix is a workhorse, operates extremely well and is a great investment. If ours ever dies, we'll purchase another for sure.
Have had a smaller older magimix before, so wanted much the same sort. Just 3 buttone to control so easy to use. Was a decision between the 3200 and the 4200 but I wanted slightly larger one so chose the 4200. Then found out that this is the smallest for the juicer and spiraliser attachments, so a good choice even if accidental. Wanted to use it in the dishwasher but actually not needed to yet as mostly processed dry foods rather than cake mixtures or dough. These will come soon.Have ordered a thicker slicer and grater to make good salads. I also wanted the julienne for courgette (had one before) but the new ones are too thin - stir fry only.It makes chopping some vegetables a breeze and can experiment with some new attachments. I bought this last January as my Kitchen Aid food processor from 2001 was about to go belly up, the motor was fine, but the plastic gets brittle and cannot be replaced. This seemed like the perfect alternative. It sat in the box in a closet until last December 2022.From the start, hate it. If you want to use the small bowl, you have to use all 3 bowls simultaneously, and although it says the other bowls won't be soiled, it is absolutely not the case. From making bread crumbs to minced onions in the small top bowl, all the other bowls get soiled. But worst of all, no matter which bowl I use, or which setting I use (pulse/automatic) or which blade I use or what temperature the food is, the blade rises off the spindle. Every. Single. Time. Every. Single. Time. And then you have to empty the bowl, replace the blade, only for it to happen again! It's terrible. And when it's on automatic, and the blade rises up the spindle, shavings from the plastic of the spindle are created and end up in the food.I reached out to Magimix, but they've never responded. And given the product sat in a closet for 11 months, I doubt Williams Sonoma would help. So, do not buy this product. The design flaws are not worth the aggravation.
After dealing with replacing expensive Cuisinart work bowls every few years my husband researched the Magimix, pointing out that’s made in France and probably more sturdy than the Cuisinarts which are now manufactured in China. It’s a very attractive machine and it works fairly well but it fails in a few major areas. I have the 12 cup 3200 XL and my biggest complaint is that it’s not powerful enough and the bowls are complicated and messy to use.First of all, there are three bowls but to use the medium and small bowls they have to be nested inside the larger/largest one. There is invariably some spill over and so they all have to be cleaned which is a waste of time and energy since they go into the dishwasher.Secondly, my biggest complaint is that the motor on ... MoreAfter dealing with replacing expensive Cuisinart work bowls every few years my husband researched the Magimix, pointing out that’s made in France and probably more sturdy than the Cuisinarts which are now manufactured in China. There is invariably some spill over and so they all have to be cleaned which is a waste of time and energy since they go into the dishwasher.Secondly, my biggest complaint is that the motor on the 3200XL isn’t powerful enough to grate softer kinds of cheese without jamming and/or leaving large pieces ungrated and yes I’ve chilled the cheese in the freezer but even using part skim mozzarella is a problem in this food processor.Vegetables are by and large a breeze to grate and slice but I make a lot of pizza and it’s disappointing. As for dough, it’s a joke. I’m a serious baker and mostly make hand kneaded doughs or doughs in my Kitchenaid but for a small batch this machine should be able to handle a loaf of white bread and it can’t. Even my old 7 cup Cuisinart that I had 25 years ago could whiz through making a loaf of dough quickly and efficiently.I’m mostly cooking for my husband and me and for smaller dinner parties of 4-8 people and my 11 cup Cuisinart never failed these tasks. On the positive side, this makes the best humus I’ve ever had and it makes lovely creamed vegetable soups.Would I buy it again knowing it has these issues? Probably not.
This was supposed to be a Really Nice Christmas gift. My wife and I finally wore out a 1970's food processor my parents got for THEIR wedding and had gifted to me twenty years ago. We replaced it with a cheap ($55) food processor, which was a mistake... it leaked everywhere and didn't do a great job... but it was literally the cheapest option. So, I bought us this one, for the cost of 9 inexpensive processors. Guess what works slightly better than the $55 model, but worse than the 1975 Cuisinart with a half dozen cracks in all its parts.Every aspect of this thing is garbage, except perhaps the motor. It's designed cheaply, shortcuts were made that make parts hard to clean. Parts are NEEDLESSLY hard to clean. This whole thing is terrible.
I still remember my mother using a Magimix when I was a little boy. For some time, I have been considering purchasing a Magimix, and I have finally made the decision to do so. It was primarily the cost that had kept me off the sidelines. I couldn't be more happy. I'm also glad I decided on the 4200XL even though it's just for a one-person home. It's extremely powerful and for the most part easy to clean and maintain. It whips up a hummus in no time and grates everything I throw at it to perfection. I will also be adding several of the accessories that are available. I defenitely should have bought one sooner. Thank you Magimix for putting a smile on my face.
I own 2 Magimix 4200xl and highly recommend. One I’ve owned for 15+ years. Would be lost without them in 2 kitchens. Powerful 900+ watt motor, lots of accessories and great reliability. Used 3 cuisinarts over the years and no comparison re: quality and durability. Easily handles dough for 2 loaves of bread. Can run for 6 minutes to make super creamy hummus-no problem. Wash in top shelf of dishwasher. Worth every penny to me.
