Easy to manoeuvre, cuts well, quiet mode actually works (and probably overkill for my smallish lawn of less than 300m2 grass...).The good:- Quite mode is, well, not quiet but at least your wife hears what you say over the noise, so not bad, and it still cuts pretty well.- 460mm blade and steel plate really helps covering a large portion of the grass - I'm coming from a Bosch 37cm small corded mower so the difference is night and day- battery lasts forever (the box says up to 800m2 well I believe that's true, cos I just cut around 300m2 in 15 minutes and there's 3/4 battery left)- it's bulky but actually pretty easy to manoeuvre - even at tight corners or backing up- REALLY REALLY easy to clean - I have to shout out (literally) for this one - my Bosch gets ... This Makita electric mower has been ideal for my medium-sized lawn. It's easy to get started and easy to push. I was a bit nervous as I had always had a petrol mower and this was my first venture into electric. The catcher and the mulcher are handy attachments that are fitted relatively easily. The batteries charge quickly and are easily slipped into place. The only real negative is the continuous pressure handle which you have to maintain your grip to keep the mower going. It fatigues the hands fairly quickly and is annoying. Overall so much easier than a petrol mower. Battery depletes more quickly on tough lawns which is no problem if you have something else to do in between battery charges.

I purchased this beauty today at Warrnambool Bunnings store, and the staff alleviated my concerns as I was a little wary of minor nitpicking from some other reviews across the internet. I've had no problems with the wheel trim and am glad they are made of rubber, not hard plastic that slide all over wet lawns. I ran the mower under fruit trees, back and forth with no problems of any trim coming off. My young teen daughter took off with the mower and thought it was really easy (and fun) to use. The safety cutout is instant! I have had absolutely no problem with the height adjuster arm either. It was easy to put together. The operator lever is not as stiff as I had imagined after reading other reviews, and I have fine boned wrists where I once had a wrist operated on ... I just kept my wrists together on the bar when pushing, rather than having them at the sides. Anyway there was no need for my concerns from what I consider to be the odd strange review. Honestly what are people doing to these machines the minute they buy them? The batteries straight out of the box were not fully charged upon purchase so I charged them up no problems. The catcher filled quickly but keep in mind my lawn has been a shocker with overgrown grass from endless rain. Previous mower a petrol dinosaur at 40kg self-propelled with no catcher, and this is the second cut after a week ago to get it nicely under control. I started on 5 setting and put it a little higher to 7 (a week ago the 'lawn' was literally up to our knees in parts from constant rain). Anyway I got through half the 1/4 acre on one charge. I expect as the lawn gets under better control the charge time will be better. It's very quiet compared to our previous mower and the quiet mode is definitely a great feature for evening mowing. Time for cuppa but I am nowhere near as exhausted as I was hauling about the old dinosaur that put me off mowing lawns (I thought for life). A great buy!

This mower is not too heavy which makes for good maneuvering, but does heavy duty work. I've used both the catcher (on very long overgrown grass) and mulcher (a few days after the first mow) and both worked well. Each charge lasted for maybe 350-400 m^2 (working quite hard) - my lawn is large so needed slightly more than 2 charges each time. But it charges from completely flat to full in an hour or less, which is great. The charger has a fan to keep the batteries cool while it charges them at ridiculously fast speeds. So it is a little noisy.
Great unit.Performs as expected. Wouldn't mind some extra batteries though so that I don't have to stop as often and wait for a recharge. Maybe a discounted offer on extra batteries? Otherwise I have to stop and charge, drink coffee and eat cake. Mrs head gardener is wondering why I am stopping all the time and emptying the cake tin.
Really disappointed. Was hoping the technology had advanced sufficiently to be usable. First use. Fully charged batteries, mid height cut level on around 400m2. Mower cut out on full power several times. Batteries showed 25% left after 80m2. Yes, 80m2, not 800m2. To do rat of small block, had to drop it to "whisper mode". And take it very easy, lifting cut height 1 more level. Just "just" managed my small block. Second use, 30-40cut outs on full power. Same scenario. BUT, this time, when dropping to low power for the test of the lawn, the thing ran out before I could even finish! So here I am, sitting with half a lawn uncut waiting for a charge, before I finish the lawn and return it to Bunnings as not fit for it capable of meeting its advertised purpose. I hoped ... I hoped this could replace my 2 year old Masport 485 petrol mower, but it just can't do the same job. At least the Masport also has a 5 year warranty.
We have only used it once and it did a great job on our large, overgrown, sloped and in some places rugged block. It took 2 charges, which were quick and gave me time to rest in between charges (approx 1 hr).We will be interested to see how it does next time.I hound it a little heavy, but cannot afford another $1,000 for a self propelled mower, which is double the weight.Unfortunately for us, electric mowers of this standard are very expensive, far more than we wanted to spend.
I bought this today from Bunnings, North Geelong and found that height adjustment part was broken. Went back to bunnings, returned and replaced. Unfortunately, second one had same issue. Again went back and this time one of the staff unboxed in the store and found out it had a same issue. All three product had same issue so I end up buying another brand.Makita need to redesign and use steel instead of plastic for height adjustment part. I do not recommend anyone to buy it untill Makita come up with the solution.
Very good mower, catcher works very well, powerful like a petrol mower. If you have extra batteries (which I do for tools) you will never wait for a recharge. Easy to clean, lighter than a petrol mower but heavier than plastic deck electrics. the mower requires you to hold the dead switch on which can be annoying / tiring if you grip it all the way on, the spring is pretty heavy for a dead switch. The actual mower and handle is very sturdy and feels solid, one thing that may be an issue for some is the rear wheels extend out further than the front wheels and the mowers cutting area, so it wont cut super close to brickwork or fences. but this is much better than my last mower and replacement blades are only $20.Very happy with the product.
I bought this mower 2 years ago from Bunnings. Choose Makita as it is my choice of brand for cordless power tools and I have heaps of batteries to suit it. It has been excellent! Quiet, relatively light compared to petrol mowers, instant start stop is great for emptying catchers. In heavy lawns it chews through battery power (as a petrol mower does through fuel and oil). If you try to cut too deeply into long grass, it will cut out and you have to release the throttle bar and turn it on again, but that’s is a lot easier than a petrol mower that stalls and has to be pull started to go again. This model has a steel pressed deck so is ridged unlike some others plastic chassis. I’ve never had a problem with the plastic wheels like another review said. In fact the petrol ...
