Had the older version which was a very reliable tool and Will still be used in my workshop. A few things on the new version just make it that little nicer to use.

Very big, very heavy, not really portable, but very accurate and versatile. A laser pointer might help but probably not much.I definitely recommend it

I bought a makita because of the quality and reliability, and that's exactly what I got. It's everything I wanted and more. A truly fantastic machine that does everything it needs to with solidity and accuracy! 100% satisfaction!!

Not a bad saw, and god for the money but does have a couple of weaknesses. The first is that the saw arrived totally out of alignment, and it took me several hours to figure out how to calibrate it. The removable part of the fence is not at 90 degrees to the base plate. I eventually discovered this could be improved by tightening the hidden grub screws at the back of the saw. These should be replaced with screws with knobs so it's easy to do/undo them. The final disappointment is that the fence has to be removed to perform compound cuts, rather than say a DeWalt where they are just moved out the way. The final nail in the coffin that made me sell the saw within a month of buying it, is that the blade speed is just too low. The final nail in the coffin that made me sell the saw within a month of buying it, is that the blade speed is just too low. Even a brand new 100 tooth blade went through the work-piece very slowly. With a DeWalt it powers through. This is a curious saw. It neither fits neatly in to ether a First Fix or Second Fix role. In my humble opinion the DeWalt does both of these roles better than the Makita. The Makita is also a bit on the large size making it rather difficult to get through doorways. It's by no means a bad saw, and it's great value for money, you get a lot of metal for your cash, but it has it's faults.

Effortless cutting. Needs calibrating before proper use which is disappointing but should be easy enough.
