Bringing down trees

This is a great saw! It has as much power and is the same size as my plug-in saw. I went to a battery model as I remove ash trees that are not near an outlet. 6 amp batteries last about 15 minutes as I am cutting the roots of small trees, 4 to 6 inch diameter, with tree blades. I dig all around the tree which allows me to rock the tree back and forth eventually swinging the tree like a reverse pendulum. Once it swings out far enough the remaining roots under the tree snap and down it comes.

Corded Power in a battery saw

I am a pro carpenter (26 years) and have the corded reciprocating saw made by Makita. Wanting a quick compact model for demo and small jobs, I decided to buy the battery powered unit once it went brushless. Wow This thing is very solidly built, has plenty of power and holds the blade well. I would say that other than oscillating stroke not included (like my JR3060T) it is every bit the saw the corded version is. Battery life is decent with a 4.0Ah and ok with a 3.0Ah. I don't own a 5.0Ah battery so can't comment on run time using that. I'm currently using it on a whole house demo (gut and remodel) and have put it through the paces. So far, it has done anything / everything I demand of a corded saw. Don't hesitate if you're unsure of it's capabilities, it's a great unit.

Fantastic product at a great price.

Simply put this is a makita tool. They are fantastic. This particular tool is incredible with features that no other reciprocating tool has. It has a 2 speed switch and adjustable depth gauge. The blade release is extra easy with a single hand operation that locks in the open position. (don't need one hand on release and the other to pull the blade). Very powerful and with the right blade will cut just about anything. Fantastic product from a wonderful brand. Couldn't be happier. My only downside was the battery life. Although not bad was a little lacking for my job, it was lobbing trees constantly or about an hour and a half on a 5ah battery. This is very good battery life however longer would obviously be better. But with the new range of 6ah batteries there would ... MoreSimply put this is a makita tool. They are fantastic. I have an old (excellent) Porter cable that i used for years. I tried my friends version of this Sawzall and was hooked. i Already have a bunch of Makita 18V tools so this "brushless" model" was a no-brainer choice - 2 speeds yes you need it... for soft and tough materials also a middle "safe" position to protect your hands when changing blades or when not in use - Rafter Hanger, very convienent - soft start, until you have it, you don't realize how nice it is. It really makes starting a cut in material a dream - perfect balance - snap-in blade changes... It's so easy to insert a blade it actually took me a minute to figure it out. You just push the blade in and it snaps into place. - easy to adjust and to remove for cleaning shoe - LED light, again until you have ... MoreI have an old (excellent) Porter cable that i used for years. I highly recommend the Makita Brushless Reciprocating Saw!
14 August 2017

I highly recommend the Makita Brushless Reciprocating Saw! This is my first reciprocating saw, and I am impressed. It is very handy for cutting tree limbs, and performed amazingly well for some demolition work. It is MUCH safer up a tree, than a chainsaw - and much faster and easier than a hand saw. With the right blades, you can cut most anything! I chose the brushless model, because it runs cooler and longer - and you never have to replace brushes. The 18V 4AH battery I used, lasted well. Makita 18V tools can all swap batteries, so I used the ones from my Makita drill. When I priced Makita batteries, the 4AH size - was the best price per AH. I love my Makita tools!

I use this saw constantly, I do plumbing and heating, this saw will do what you want it to, the biggest gas pipes, metal framing, whatever. with ease. I have a previous makita cordless sawzall, and I cant even use it now that i have this. everyone comments how powerful it is, i even bought a cast iron blade and cut through like 5 pieces of 4 inch black pipe on one battery charge the first week i had it. aside from it being lighter than the previous brushed model and really powerful for a cordless sawzall, Ive done things to it I probably shouldnt have, eveytime I use it and drop it on the ground i remember this is a very expensive and high quality tool, but thats why I can use it and drop it on the ground again... Like all Makita LXT tools, this tool is exactly as advertised. It performs out of the box, has all the features you'd expect, but nothing more. Is easy to operated and just works. After trying (and ultimately giving away) many different brand of cordless tools, I have settled on the Makita LXT line for years. The batteries consistently outperform and outlast any other brand, and the selection of tools that use this battery format is just enormous.

I purchased this model after two of my corded reciprocating saws took a dive. This saw has as much if not more power than any corded model. I make my living in construction, and this is one of my favorite tools. The power amazes me everytime I use it. Plus the brushless motor keeps us from having to run back and forth to the charger. Heavy use, i can get a half a day out of a 4.0 amp battery. I absolutely recommend this to the home owner all the way up to the high-rise contractor. You have to just see for yourself, this saw is truly unbelievable. Folks....i am one of the hardest men to please that i know. I have to have the best of everything, latest, greatest, with the most power. The saw is very nice. It is easy to change blades. Its heavy. I thought brushless tools didnt overheat as much as non-brushless tools, but this saw gets HOT after a few minutes. It gets even hotter than my ancient, non-brushless DeWalt reciprocating saw. Its kind of a battery hog. But its a quality tool, and I like it. Only time will tell if it holds up to heavy use. Update: 11/26/2020. After completing several heavy-duty jobs (cutting up hardwood limbs and stumps) this saw has held up well. I would buy it again.

This has replaced my cordless reciprocating saws. Cannot recall last time I plugged one of them in. There is no need. This XRJ05 is powerful, good control, has better features and is comfortable to use. Battery life has not been an issue with 5Ah batteries and for me this is a tool, like my grinders, where dealing with the cord can be a real liability due to the situations where it is put into use. No regrets.
