Amazing and poor designed at the same time

I Love my Makita tools but this chainsaw has me sitting on the fence. Cuts absolutely amazing with a sharp chain and with twin 5ah battery's get a lot of cuts. BUT the chain tensioning design is very poor, hard to tension and very easy to cross thread the covers thread as isn't the easiest to get sitting flat even when reverse spinning on the thread to get it to sit flat. All in all its an O.K. saw but if you have the money and want to use it a fair bit would recommend going for a more expensive well known petrol saw etc.

Brilliant top handled cordless chainsaw

Arrived on time. Put together very easily. Very effective & easily adjusted chain tension. Easy oil loading. Put two 4 amp batteries on & worked for 45 minutes flat out & still some charge left. Chain brake very effective. Low noise & vibration. Would recommend to all.

Fantastic saw!

Ive got several chainsaws, petrols, electric and battery, they all have their uses for varying jobs. Previously used old 12v Makita chainsaws for heavy pruning and they took an awful lot more than they were designed for (still going too!) so I knew it was a brand I could trust and I wasnt disappointed! Theres a few videos of this saw online but was won over after seeing an Aussie guy dealing with trees in the outback with it, it really does seem to cope with whatever you throw at it, Ive used it on just about everything, even dismantling a big eucalyptus just to test what it could handle....breezed through it, very impressive! I like my petrol saws but sometimes its nice to work quietly and this actually makes the job fun as well! Great little unit
8 February 2022

I work as a handyman and just bought this tool because I already have most of my tools running on 18V Makita. Was sick of taking out the petrol chainsaw when I needed it but because of the fuel needed It never remained in the ute. This little baby can stay in the ute for those emergency cuts and all I need to do is pop in a couple of batteries and I'm off. Cuts well and lightweight and compact enough to keep in a small bag with bar oil and sharpening tools. For just over $300 it's worth the investment.

Light in weight but not in power
17 November 2016

As someone who already owned four chainsaws of various sizes and power I wanted one which was small and light but with reasonable strengh. Makita machines have never disappointed me and this is no exception. It is very light, easy to handle and cuts through small branches quickly. It's well designed and if handled correctly poses no threat. Having borrowed another lithium battery chainsaw which I found rather weak even after sharpening the chain I'm delighted with this purchase.

Love it! Super light weight, I only use one hand when cutting trees branches down like butter.

Quiet, Easy, Light, Safe
15 March 2018

So much easier all round than equivalent ICE versions. Apart from keeping blade sharp, no messy time-consuming prepping before use. Quiet! You don't need ear protection. This makes it safer all round. With ICE saws, not being able to hear other things going on around you can often be the cause of accident. OK a good ICE machine starts fairly easily, but how many of them always start first time? No hassle here, as long as the batteries are OK, it runs when you pull the trigger. All over far superior to the equivalent ICE saw. You wouldn't use it to fell big trees in a forest, but that's not what it's designed for. Excellent all round. 10 out of 10

Usual Makita LXT quality (this ones made in Japan which I prefer).
2 February 2021

Usual Makita LXT quality (this ones made in Japan which I prefer), good price and an ideal alternative to a petrol equivalent, the Stihl equivalent is considerably more and means unless you use the Stihl batteries in other Stihl products a bit of an extravagance, with other LXT tools in hand then batteries get circulated and not left on the shelf. Spares are readily available and dont cost the earth, batteries are also readily available (I dont recommend non genuine, thats a personal choice). This supplements its smaller brother (a 122), power wise its more than up to the job, its also safer (I think), but be aware this is not a DIYer tool, Makita state its for trained arborists), like all chainsaws its potentially lethal, a little training will stand a user an ... MoreUsual Makita LXT quality (this ones made in Japan which I prefer), good price and an ideal alternative to a petrol equivalent, the Stihl equivalent is considerably more and means unless you use the Stihl batteries in other Stihl products a bit of an extravagance, with other LXT tools in hand then batteries get circulated and not left on the shelf. Theres lots of YouTube videos about them which gives a good idea of the performance. Buy it with confidence use it with care !

Well chuffed
11 June 2020

Surprised how good it is, only wish Id bought it sooner!! Dont get me wrong itll never replace my petrol Stihl, but Only use it for cutting the smaller 6-7 down, as opposed to using the heavier noisier machine. I was concerned about the run time of the batteries before I bought it, but I use my 5ah batteries and they last longer than a tank of juice!!! Well chuffed
