I think these battery powered drills have become really well developed and are a good match for the corded ones. This particular drill was needed to drill bricks faster than my old Bosch and does the job really well. I have several batteries anyway so that wasn't an issue. I would recommend anyone who has cheaper cordless drill or if they haven't tried one to give it a go, you'll be surprised how good it is.

A bare bones drill only replacement for my first Makita. This has a superior solid build quality. Nearly 50% more torque The two work lights stay illuminated for 10 seconds after pressing the trigger which I find useful. The belt and bit grips are nice attention to detail as is the battery level meter so very happy and for just £65 including next day delivery it seems something of a bargin

The DHP548 is an awesome drill! The DHP458 is a profesionales drill for everyday tradesmen. It's currently the 2nd from best multi drill Makita make (the best is DHP481). This drill was cheaper than lesser models so I decided to purchase. It effortlessly sinks 120mm screws and cuts 32mm holes in wood. Comes with an additional grip, depth guage, 2 drill bits and 2 clips. Overall I'm really impressed with it and for this price you can't go wrong. Also comes with 1 year guarantee from Makita.

Super powerful drill driver. Not brush-less but works great for drilling into masonry when you don't need an SDS drill. I have two and they are great drills. Can get lighter but if you want power then lightweight shouldn't come into it. Have one of these in your kit and you will be happy sure.
This is a very solid well constructed product with a quality feel. It is very refined in operation, able to start slowly with good control. Good range of torque settings. Twin light is an advantage, as you get less shadows. Handle and depth stop are useful additions, as is the battery level indicator. Very powerful with high torque, so you will find you don't need a mains powered drill as often. It is quite large and heavy, compared to say the DHP456 which has a better balance overall. I find myself wanting a lighter more compact drill on occasions. For the performance you get, this is an excellent value product and very versatile. Definitely recommend it, but you may want to also buy a smaller lighter unit for prolonged use day in day out.
Loads of power and speed, mainly used for drilling aluminium in my profession, purchased as a second drill having used a DHP453Z daily for a number of years. Another lighter duty drill would have been fine, however a Jubilee voucher made the DHP458Z a steal. The extra speed is a boon for drilling 100's of small holes reducing the time involved substantially. Downside it is a bit heavy.
Robust and powerful with plenty of great features. I would definitely recommend as mine either lie in a pool of water or oil and still deliver the goods. I’ve also used for building lorry bodies drilling holes through steel up to 13mm without difficulty
The Makita DHP458Z is an excellent cordless compact combi drill. Its power and versatility make it a great addition to my toolbox. The ergonomic design and lightweight build make it comfortable to use for extended periods.
Not the lightest drill, but I think it is probably the most robust and powerful! Excellent torque and durability. This is the second one I own the first I bought 8 years ago and is still going as strong as when I bought it 👍🏻
Feels like handling a corded drill it is so powerful. Much better and heavier than the smaller Makita combi's I bought before which I was impressed with at the time. This one is a revelation. I don't think it will stall or burn out so quick when drilling into say green wood. If you can find one at a good price then get this, not one of the lesser Makita combi's. Compared to those the added torque is awesome. THIS IS NOT A TOY! I have to say, only difference from corded on the downside (like all battery drills I have come across) is that it does not have the drill speed of a corded. Apart from that it is hard to tell the difference in use, other than the brilliant convenience of this drill. I have got the Makita LXT impact driver and the bigger SDS 18V LXT so battery ... What a wonderful world we now live in :)
