Its fair to say I was sceptical of this unknown (to me) tool, but after looking around for a suitable tool for a very particular project I took the plunge and opted for the quick release model, its an added bonus for not much extra money. Well having used the tool with much success on the initial project, it has become an invaluable addition in my cordless makita kit bag!, it really is one of those tools that can do most things well, and is priceless at very awkward tasks. It truly can save hours of your time. As a previous owner of the DTM50 model, I had become frustrated with the time taken to move or change the cutting tool using the provided Allen key. When a friend who was borrowing this previous model had it stolen, they paid the replacement cost from their insurance, but I didn’t hesitate in “upgrading” to this model, with its easy change/adjust lever action - no more Allen key!If you have never owned or used one of these multi-cutters, you may be wondering if you would actually use it enough to justify the cost. If you use Makita 18V tools you won't be disappointed with this. It has plenty of power (I'd recommend minimum 5Ah battery for reasonable run time) and very acceptable levels of vibration. It's quite large & heavy, so if you need a multi tool for really tight spaces you may be better off with a 12V version.I love the tool free blade change - saves a surprising amount of time.In essence, this is just so much better and more convenient than my old corded tool.
