This Makita grinder has a slim body so it’s easy to hold, the trigger is easy to use and the soft start makes it safer to handle. Budgetary restraints had meant the last two grinders I bought were cheap box store no -name jobs. Neither had soft start- the spindle bearing failed on one after 4 months and the other burnt its brushes with in weeks. False economy! This Makita on the other hand was a great price through BargainFox and feels like a tough tool, that I hope will go the distance.

Bought this as a replacement for my other 5 inch angle grinder that decided to strip its teeth in action. Find the slimmer motor body much more ergonomic than the grinder that it replaced. Seems to be powerful enough and has been put through it’s paces cutting some girders and angles for some new gates I’m building. Very pleased with the quality and price.

Broke very quickly with very light usage. Used only a handful of times over a year. Was cutting up an old zinc bath and the disc stuck. Spanner would not release the disc and then the disc-lock button broke off. Very poor quality. The disc is now impossible to remove. Now scrap and it's barely been used. Total waste of money. Very, very disappointed considering its Makita and barely used.

Grinder seems ok and easy to handle. The guard however is rubbish. It doesn't allow rotation through 360 degrees. The grinder can only be used with the guard fitted either vertically or at most, 45 degrees back from vertical. The guard will not allow for more. I sometimes like to hold a grinder almost horizontal and this is not possible with the guard fitted. I shall be modifying mine as this is a poor design. Also, when I first used it there was a louder than normal metal whining sound, I took the end off and found there was no grease (not a spot) on the bevel gears even though it had run. There was some in the housing though, so I spread that around. Whining much reduced.
I would say the grinder is well made, with a safety switch when using, a little heavier than exspected but good all round. I have brought from FFX before everything is good and arrived when said thankyou.
Great quality angle grinder. The on-off switch is in a good position and the hand grip is in an ideal angle to manipulate the tool. It's a fractionally heavy device, but isn't too tiring to hold for long periods. I'm pleased with the overall quality of the grinder, and it cuts through metal very easily. The disc size of 5" is fine for most jobs that I will need it for. All told I am pleased with this tool.
Replaced an older model that lasted for years.New grinder, some minor refinements slightly improved on old modelSo far its great! Be warned! my old grinder died of neglect ...... I allowed grit to access cooling vents which finally got into the motor and stuffed it.
Bought this Makita the same day as my previous Makita angle grinder expired. That had lasted 4 years and had done some serious work so not too disappointed.Initial thoughts on the performance of this grinder are that it is just as good as the previous one. The 'soft start' is a new feature, though it reaches full speed very quickly. My usual gripes with small angle grinders are:1. The side switches - I hate them, particularly difficult if you have gloves on or silicone/grease on your hands.2. Having to use a screwdriver to adjust the guard - a quick-release lever should surely be possible. That having been said, I still rate Makita very highly and I expect to have the same service from this tool as the previous one. I buy Makita whenever possible as they work well.
Deciding on a replacement for the Bosch l've had for decades, the Makita make has also been reliable for me. This one has increased power, so doesn't struggle with what l put it through. This one has a push button that holds the spindle still, so making the changing of discs abit easier. Body is thinner, making it better to hold tight incase of kickback. Recently used alot on cutting/grinding steel rods, and did the job well.
I have 3 economy angle grinders and the 3 together wouldnt make a grinder ; so I decided to treat myself to a proper one. what a difference. Quality all over - no vibrations, strong quiet motor, flexible rubbery cable. All good. And still not expensive. Too early to score on durability or reliability.
