Good saw for delimbing but not too good for cutting small bushes. The chain isn't aggressive enough and chain has the tendency to jump off the bar. But it works just fine for cutting limbs up tp 6-8 inches in diameter. You can get about 1 1/2 hours of use on a charge.

This saw is amazing. I have a lot of experience with gas saws, but this is my first battery electric saw. I needs a saw for around the yard. Tree trimming, occasional felling, and shortening long-cut fire wood for our stove. This saw outperforms all my expectations. It cuts using the full length of the bar with ease, chews right through anything I’ve thrown at it. One added bonus, it’s quiet enough to work without ear protection. The 5amp hour batteries lasted an hour or so, plenty of time to have another pair on the charger (45 min charge time), ready to swap out and keep working without waiting around. Great solution. Will definitely bring to the campground.

Since putting the saw together I have some negative comments. Two different screws and no directions as to where to use them. The directions were slightly better than none, no where did it tell me what the black knob on top was for. Internet search siz it is to regulate lub oil flow. Filled it with oil and most leaked out somewhere. A real grip is that nowhere is there a customer service number I can call. Perhaps if I get on the internet there is one? It is a decent product I think but could be a great product if there were some decent instructions and someone to call if needed. Have only made one saw cut, worked fine.

You will need a 5Ah Makitia battery to get about 10 minutes of active use from the saw. So if you plan on cutting down trees with a 2 foot diameter. Then you better get a gas model.

This Makita saw is nothing like that--it's so quiet my family didn't even know I was outside at 8am cutting up the big branch. I was able to chop-suey the whole limb up in less than a day and stuff the majority of the green material in Lowe's brown yard waste bags and our garage guys took it all. No need for a noisy chipper. I've already used the saw again to cut off deck stairs that were rotting and rusted on but still dado cut and nailed strong. Later on today, I'm headed under the deck to cut up old scrap that didn't survive the winter.As mainly have talked about in other reviews: I find the green button can sometimes need pressed a bit often, but I'd rather it that way. It's not a hassle. My thumb is right there. I find myself occasionally revving it so it doesn't go off though. Battery life is great, but have at-least four batteries for a full day's work. I like the kickback guard as well, I triggered it twice while cutting into deep piles of thinner, leaf-covered branches. It just turns the machine off. I've been popping it forward as added safety when I put it down. Also once while cutting I knocked the chain off, I then replaced it backwards, tried to cut, didn't cut, said "dahh", placed it correctly, and loved the tool-less guard the whole time. Like the review title says: this is my first ever chainsaw.The real joy though is showing off this Makita battery tech to all the baby-boom'n neighbors... their minds nearly explode watching how much I get done in a day with no cords and no gas cans.

It is such a great feeling to rip through an oak tree and when you take your finger off the trigger to hear...nothing, no idling saw. Even when cutting the noise is much less than a gas saw.I had some concerns after reading other reviews about the power button being a pain and having to constantly press the button to power the saw. I have not had any issues with the power management system, yes it automatically powers the saw done after a while (I would guess 15-20 seconds) but I find that having to press the button is no problem, and this is from someone who has issues with triggers on tools. This thing is a pretty good cutter for its size and really can be substituted for its gasified brethren. I've already worn out one chain and it still works flawlessly. If you are using it remotely and are doing serious sawing, invest in a second set (2 more) of batteries.
9 tooth, fits Husqvarna without the washer that keeps debris in and does not put force on the shaft. Husky one is also 8 tooth. 1/4 chain derails kind of easy so may not be ideal for some applications. Hopefully some day battery saws will have normal splined drive.
This Saw is a pleasure to operate, quiet, easy to use, it is unbeatable. as near as I can tell it isn't any different then newer model 04Z, the 04Z has a 16 inch bar, you can get the 16" bar for the 03z if you want out of Makita parts, or I suspect from Oregon chainsaw parts. u can get a .50 pitch chain and bar if you want, I cant say its better then the .043 pitch, its your call. runs along time on 2 5amp batteries. it is just a great saw.
