A solid and lightweight helmet choice!!!

The price is quite right when comparing to other brands of modern plastic/foam helmets. This Mammut Wall Rider helmet is a great lightweight helmet choice for all climbers and holds up to the task of every day use.

Very lightweight helmet that still looks good when you're wearing it, honestly can't even feel it on my head. Great ventilation through the back of the helmet. The adjustment system seems fiddly at first but after using it once you'll be able to micro adjust it very quickly. The straps are thin but they are very supportive. I like the fixed Y-strap, but that's personal preference.I have some dead space inside the helmet when adjusted, but the helmet doesn't move around when I do the shake test.I don't use a headlamp often, but if the headlamp clips were to be used often I can see them snapping sooner than I'd like.

Awesome Helmet!

Finally I found a helmet that can adjust and perfectly fit my smaller head. It doesn't wobble around like previous helmets I've had and is super comfortable for wear for a full day out climbing. I like this helmet for longer multi pitch days because it is so light weight but it has become my go to for crag days too.

Couldn't ask for a better helmet

Bought this helmet to upgrade from my half dome before a trip to Skaha, since we were planning on leading some challenging routes and I wanted some protection on the sides and back of my head after seeing someone crack their skull open last year. Let me say this is the most well designed helmet I've ever had on my skull. It is ultra lightweight and comfortable -- barely even feel it -- with a great aesthetic design. It can also take multiple hits like the Sirocco but costs $40 less (I also think it looks sexier, even with the redesign). I've just been tossing it in my bag (albeit in the included cloth bag) and it has taken almost no wear, unlike the BD Vapor which is known to crack in half if you're not careful. I've just been tossing it in my bag (albeit in the included cloth bag) and it has taken almost no wear, unlike the BD Vapor which is known to crack in half if you're not careful. The hard shell covering the front is nice especially when stepping up to roofs where you might go too far and smack your dome.I was having trouble with this helmet slipping backward during climbs, but then I realized that the buckles can be adjusted up/down as well as front/back, so that now the straps cradle the back of my head, and the fit is bomber even when wearing it fairly loose. My only gripe is that the straps don't quite go cleanly around my ears like the half dome did. Either they brush across the tops of my ears or I adjust it back and then the chin strap cuts into my neck. So I settled for the former. Pretty minor, and really the only reason you would even notice it's on your head given the weight. Sick helmet, super happy MEC is carrying it.

So far, one of my best purchases at MEC. I’ve looked a lot of reviews about helmets before I made my purchase (I am a little afraid kf buying such expensive gear). It feels light, looks good, and it’s Mammut! Let me tell you, that I even forget that I wear it sometimes. When it’s hot you can feel the breeze in your head, and if you sweat a lot there is like a couxin inside that absorbs pretty well with no stink. On top of that, there is back up pieces when you buy it.I am barely an average climber, but I am confident when I say that this helmet is going to be with me for a long time. Look around for reviews, some think that is one of the best in market right now (spring 2018).Give it a try! No complains

Light, Decent, Not Perfect

I was looking for something lighter and more form-fitting than my old Petzl bucket, which I still like. Anyway, I looked at the Petzl Scirocco but this one seemed a bit more durable for rock, which is mostly what I'm on these days. I will say after four days of climbing multiple offwidths, chimneys and dihedrals, it's durable. Not the best fit. I's like even more padding customization that what it offered. Strap could be a bit longer.

Light, Functional, Durable

I use this helmet primarily for ski mountaineering in the Teton Range, when I'm worried about rock or ice fall. I can't say enough about the weight (so light), the durability after being dragged on many adventures and stuffed in packs and the fit, which is incredibly comfortable, even when skiing downhill. The adjustment straps make the fit seamless and prevent this helmet from moving or shifting when I'm climbing uphill with a pack or heading downhill with goggles on. This is something I've always had issues with with other climbing and mountaineering specific helmets. Plus, between the well ventilated back and lightweight design it feels like I'm practically wearing nothing and never gives me an excuse to not pack it due to weight constraints. Like I'm wearing nothing at all

My head measures 62cm and with long hair this helmet is a bit too snug but with my hair buzzed off it fits fine. I can just fit a very thin line hat under it. Not a complaint just hoping to help others with very large heads.I think this fits my head similar to the BD Vapor which says it goes to 63cm.I think it your head is bigger than 63cm you will not be happy with how tight the helmet will fit. There is a thin velcro'd in pad that could be removed to get another cm but this may make the helmet uncomfortable as well.I've been using a BD Half Dome helmet for the last decade and was always looking for excuses to not wear it. Nothing wrong with that but the Wall Rider is a huge leap forward.I used it last week in Red Rock and my head stayed cool and the helmet ... MoreMy head measures 62cm and with long hair this helmet is a bit too snug but with my hair buzzed off it fits fine. Love it!
20 May 2020

I bought this about a month ago, while looking for a light weight and durable helmet (have used it only a couple of times). The combo of hard-shell and EPP feels durable, and I don't feel like I need to baby it as much as some of the BD helmets I tried. The 56-61cm size fits great on my relatively large dome, and the strap adjustments work well, but would be tough to adjust with gloves on. That said, there's not a ton of space to layer a hat or beanie under -- if you have an XL head, beware. The venting is great, the styling is great, and I love that this could double as a touring or mountaineering helmet with the combo headlamp/goggle strap.

Not just for Climbing

The Mammut Wall Rider Climbing Helmet is a great choice for climbers and mountaineers looking for a lightweight, comfortable and protective helmet. I particularly appreciated its versatility during a ski mountaineering trip in the Alps. It was comfortable to wear over a hat and provided excellent protection during some tricky sections of the climb.
