No studio would be complete without numerous Super Clamps. They are useful for holding studio strobes in any number of positions, for holding the Manfrotto Magic Arm, and even clamping flat items like foam boards or flags to a light stand of c-stand. You can also mount a camera to this super clamp and then mount the clamp on a metal bar suspended over your work surface for flat lay (top-down) product shots. The metal bar can be mounted to 2 c-stands with a Manfrotto 038 Double Super Clamp on each end. This makes for a rock-solid camera mount when the camera is suspended above your subject.

I have about a dozen of these clamps. Very versatile and part of a nice Manfrotto system. I mostly use them to clamp to my Pole-Cats to hang lights or background material. They will just as easily attach to light stands, small trees, chairs, table legs, car doors...you get the picture. Very well made and the rubber insert on the clamp teeth won't damage anything. I have only had one fail, but it may have been my fault, over tightening is not necessary. Replacement parts are available so it is whole again. The design has slightly changed over the years, but no difference in usage.

Very sturdy. Going to DYI build a copy stand for macro photography. This clamp will hold the camera vertically and clamp to the pole. The super clamp will get me close vertically. I'll mount a focusing rail to the super clamp and then the camera on that for fine vertical adjustment. Should work well!

You'd expect this item, being the most expensive in the market would correspondingly have the best features but that's not the case. Specifically, this clamp doesn't have a ratchet handle whichis a very important feature and you'll regret not having it when youneed it.This is, as all Manfrotto gear a high quality Item but there are other brands with similar quality that will give you more for your money and even more for LESS money.
This clamp's grip material is nylon or another very very hard plastic. It is NOT RUBBER. With a Canon EOS R (smaller than common DSLRs) with 24 - 105 lens it rotates freely under the weight. So, this is not suitable for mounting a camera other than an ultra-light all-in-one. Adding several rubber bands around your post/pole or boom dramatically improves the grip and helps secure the position you desire. But even with rubber bands, the EOS R with lens was barely able to hold it's position.
I've been using this as part of a y-axis photographic setup, using a makeshift copy stand (wood board, 1/2 NPS pipe), this unit, Manfrotto 208HEX, tripod ball head, SWEBO LS-001 focus rail, and camera with lens(es). The super clamp attaches to the pipe very nicely, resulting in no subtle movement once secured. It easily supports all the add-on weight, despite all the attachments extending horizontally, rather than vertically in a typical fashion. My only complaints are:- The plastic handle does feel somewhat flimsy (in comparison to the cast-metal body), and I somewhat worry it may snap during tightening. It has provided me no issues so far, however.- When not secured to any surface, the clamp's jaws do have some significant play at the hinge, perpendicular to ... MoreI've been using this as part of a y-axis photographic setup, using a makeshift copy stand (wood board, 1/2 NPS pipe), this unit, Manfrotto 208HEX, tripod ball head, SWEBO LS-001 focus rail, and camera with lens(es). The super clamp attaches to the pipe very nicely, resulting in no subtle movement once secured. It has provided me no issues so far, however.- When not secured to any surface, the clamp's jaws do have some significant play at the hinge, perpendicular to the direction of the clamp's closure. Again, this aspect also has not provided any issues in performance. This is a solid, dependable piece of equipment; I'm glad I spent a little extra to invest in Manfrotto's product quality (not to mention their excellent Warranty policy).
I'm using this with the Manfrotto 244MINI Friction Arm to support a laptop computer from the leg of my tripod for tethered shooting. It works with all my tripods and is very secure. It's heavy but fits neatly in my travel case with checked luggage.
I've been on the fence with purchasing a salon/tower camera stand. This super clamp, when paired with my manofrotto monopod, gives me an opportunity to work on overhead shots in a similar manner with a nano-fraction of the cost. I think my only comment to prospective buyers is that the screw attachment seems to slip a little--not much, but enough that I continually recheck for sturdiness and movement. Again, minor issue that does not affect my product work!
Recently ordered this and the competing cheaper knockoff just to compare. I know it’s hard to believe because it is just a clamp, but the Manfrotto features were so poorly imitated, the competition made a negative, um, impact. The overall smoothness of operation is superior. The grip is noticeably more solid. The jaw insert for flat surfaces fits perfectly, or it rides along clicked into its little holding spot out of the way. On the competition, it doesn’t even fit the jaws, and you end up with a random piece of plastic rattling around your bag. You may as well use cardboard and tape. Yes the knockoff works adequately enough, but I’m irritated I got it because the Manfrotto is so well made. Definitely worth it for a few dollars more.
