Brilliant AV Amp

I purchased the Cinema 50 about a month ago and am really pleased with my purchase. The sound is excellent & with punch when needed it really brings films & TV to life, making it quite addictive! I connected it to an existing Definitive Tech surround set up & added Eltax monitor atmos speakers, left & right surrounds & a Cambridge SX120 subwoofer. Quickly running the Audyssy X32 calibration totally transformed the sound out of the box - it's a must do exercise. The connectivity options are excellent & it works seamlessly with everything connected so far - TV, Blu Ray, CD, games console & Sat TV. I don't think its as good musically as my dedicated, old but high quality stereo amp and seems to have less power (despite stated higher output) driving the same speakers. ... MoreI purchased the Cinema 50 about a month ago and am really pleased with my purchase. After extensive research decided the way forward would be to invest in a surround sound AVR. One that I could use for movies and music aswell as connect to my UHD loewe 4K TV and process a 3D Blu - Ray signal and connect to my turntable. I knew that Marantz as a company along with Yamaha made fantastic Hifi separates. So decided to research AVR's from these two companies. Within weeks i thought I'd settled on the Yamaha AVR of my choice RX-A4A, heading down to my local AV outlet. I enquired as to availability of that particular unit and my desire to purchase it. The assistant asked me a very profound question: what make of speakers did I have. I replied that I had a Piega front stage and satellite speakers. He then proceeded to advise me that the yamaha RX-A4A was very bright sounding and that my Piega speakers were also bright sounding and that the Yamaha could potentially be a bad match for my speakers. He suggested I look at the cinema60 from marantz as the Marantz sounded more warmer and bass richer than the Yamaha RX-A4A. And so would help my Piega speakers truly sing. After a few days thought and more research I decided that the cinema60 was going to be my new AVR, however when I went to purchase it they were out of stock and only had the cinema50 available. So on a whim I went with that. Got a fantastic deal on it also. How could I not buy it. Once connected I was blown away by its clarity and depth of sound aswell as many other features, especially how future proof it is. It sits on display in my home theater. A vision of aesthetic beauty. I bought the silver colour. It's minimalistic modern styling paying homage to marantz's rich heritage. I've had this beast of a machine in my home now for all of 4 months now and I'm only now getting the best from it. I've only scratched it's proverbial surface. I know it will produce more and over time will sound better and better than it does, currently it's sounding amazing! I can't comprehend how much further it can go, but I know it will and can. There is just one niggle. I've tried connecting my mini PC via HDMI cable and port to it and the receiver doesn't see the mini PC. How can I get out to do so any help would be great regarding this small issue. If not for that. I would leave 5 stars. For the amount paid I believe it should be perfect.

Setup is very simple with a well polished interface. The Audyssey xt 32 exceeded my expectations and immediately delivered a really natural and balanced sound in a fairly difficult environment. I'm using KEF T305 speakers so the sub has to handle higher frequencies than is typical. I'm only using it in 5.1 at present, but for music and particularly vocals, in all channel stereo it delivers a really absorbing listening experience. For film use it also provides a natural yet impressive sound as effects feel fairly real. Works well with Spotify and not found any significant bugs which is fairly rare with kit of this complexity. For really focused music listening I'll be keeping my active speaker setup, but overall I feel like this is the first receiver I've had that actually delivers on their potential as a single solution for audio and video without it feeling like a significant compromise.

Finally upgraded from my trusty Onkyo 608 to the Cinema 50. Its a gorgeous looking unit, the pictures really dont do it justice, if im being honest this was one of the reasons I chose a Marantz over Dennon as im going to be looking at it for 5 or so years. Its a doddle to set up, the Audyssy X32 calibration has worked wonders with my system, my sub has never sounded so good!Ive used it pretty much 50/50 music and AV, its great musically, tonnes of power. The warmth of the Marantz pairs perfectly with my B&W 603s which can be a tad bright. The phono stage is also surprisingly decent probably on par with the rega mini I was using before if your looking to hook up a turntable.Tv and movies it's awesome great dynamics, very musical and really packs a punch. I purchased this av amp after some good advice from Telesales, when i phoned they were busy but I was transferred to the Chelsea branch who have had the Cinema 50 in their Demo room. My main concern was as i had owned several Denon's they always seemed to run hot and as the Marantz is owned by the same company did the Cinema 50 have the same issue as space was a factor. He explained they had no such issues and I decided to purchase and I am glad I did. Set up was straight forward and then set up with the audyssey app and that made a big difference, now you can get audyssey one set up on line and that improved the sound again. The app is well worth the money for the improvement it makes, I am very impressed with the cinema 50 and as usual the help fromRichersounds ... MoreI purchased this av amp after some good advice from Telesales, when i phoned they were busy but I was transferred to the Chelsea branch who have had the Cinema 50 in their Demo room. I have had many receivers from pioneer elite, yamaha aventage, and denon receivers. This marantz is the best by far. More thean enough hdmi inputs for all your devices. More power than my other receivers and the audessey audio calibration gets my system up and sounding great. I run a 7.2.2 sound system with bi-amped front towers. Front dolby atmos speakers on top of my towers. Speakers have more depth and wider soundstage. My speakers have never sounded better. Buy it, you wont be disappointed

Amazing receiver after you tune your speakers. I love how it sounds. Jazz is absolutely gorgeous. The real bonus is I won't need to upgrade for a long time with so many HDMI 2.1 ports. I spent a long time waiting for receivers to properly embrace the new standard and it was worth the wait. Works great with gaming. Movies hit when they need to. I'm glad I finally upgraded from Denon. The receiver and the Marantz remote look so much nicer. Onscreen menus are basically the same as Denon which isn't surprising.

I upgraded to the Cinema 50 after owning a Marantz NR1603 since it was released. I've always had B&W speakers and thought that what I had was enough since my room was on the smaller side. I decided to upgrade when I saw Marantz's 70th anniversary trade in program, and I decided on the Cinema 50.It was clear from the first 10 minutes that the Cinema 50 is a clear step up from what I had... not to mention the new design of Marantz products is really nice. The best way I can describe it is everything sounds bigger, even at low volumes. I don't consider myself an "audiophile", but I like audio and home theater gear. Let me start by saying...WOW! I know this receiver is $2500 but I will say, it is worth it. I done a ton of research on 9.2 receivers to replace my Pioneer Elite LS303 and listened to a couple in the store and ultimately decided on the Cinema 50.Pros: Amazing sound quality that really made my speakers come to life. I rewatched several movies just to hear the difference in the sounds and special effects. It has all the bells and whistles like 4k/120hz for gaming and it looks great. It has 4 seperate subwoofer outputs so when doing room calibration it adjusts the level on each just like your other speakers. Audyssey room calibration worked really well. Most importantly, power! The other thing is that you have to pay an extra $259-$349 for Dirac Live after buying the receiver if you want it. So far, I'm really happy with the Audyssey calibration and the way the system sounds. Maybe one day I'll want to upgrade to Dirac but for now I think I'll hold off.Overall: Amazing receiver and I feel like is worth the money if you want an awesome sounding home theater.

My Focal Vestia Towers sound warm accompanied with floating notes. (Focals are a tad bright, Denon made them sound harsh at times).- Watched several movies, bass is deep, atmos speakers actually opened up portraying depth as well as awesome transitions from 4 Atmos speakers and 2 surrounds.- Binding posts are top notch.- Really like the speaker designated labels, I thought that was a nice touch.- Have not used Dirac but so far Audyseey has served me well.- The Marantz interface matches the current decade (old interface was dated).- I am eager to come home and listen to music, it is such a delight.- Even my Klipsch RP-150M bookshelves sounded way better compared to Denon.- I do not know the circuit related differences but this receiver sounded way better compared to several others during my auditioning for music or movies. I definitely think this is a top-shelf model and not middle or bottom shelf. You definitely get your moneys worth.- Plenty of Prepouts for future expansion.- I was hesitant to get this AVR when I read about HDMI issues but I have never had any issues. Seems to work adequately.Cons:- Need I say the price? Quality does come at a price.- Display on the receiver is tiny almost cannot read it from distance.
