Bowser Party throws in a new experience where you try to make everyone else lose, it's fun for a while but loses appeal after one or two games of being Bowser. Usually I'd pass the Wii U tablet around so that everyone can play as him once, the experience was enjoyable but not as fun as playing a standard character.I've also known Mario Party with a good single/two player experience, where the boards and mini games have enough personality to where two people can competitively play and still have fun for hours, this one does not seem to follow. Mario Party 10 follows Mario Party 9's "All players in one car" which completely cuts out 90% of the strategy on playing the standard boards, it's hard to plan landing at a certain spot or using items to beat your foes when others will determine your location before it's even your turn. Once it is your turn you simply roll the dice and wait again, the maps seem bland and feel like you're going in a straight line with one or two slight events thrown in.There is no single player mode or story associated with it and makes unlocking items feel like filling in check-boxes rather exploring new ways to enjoy the game. Amiibo party throws things back to where you can each move separately from each other with tons of small features and visuals to keep you interested. I believe I've played more Amiibo Party than the regular Mode and Bowser mode combined.Game is enjoyable with others, but if you're expecting to get your $50/$60 worth you may be disappointed. Still a fun game I play about once a week but the overall package feels watered down compared to the Mario Parties in the Gamecube or Nintendo 64 era. I'd give it a 3.5/5 if possible.

Decent Mario Party game, disappointing Amiibo use

One of the biggest new features to Mario Party 10 is the Amiibo support. In fact, many early copies of the game came bundled with a Mario amiibo figure, and the Super Mario Bros. amiibo line was made specifically for Mario Party 10. Unfortunately, the amiibo mode in MP10 is really boring. The board is a boring square shape, nothing really crazy happens either. You can obtain new board pieces and save them to your amiibo, then each player can use their amiibo to choose a board piece. But they always form a straightforward path around a square, and while each character's board pieces can have different special spots with effects, it's nothing to get excited about. So the amiibo mode might be lame, but what about the "normal" Mario Party? All the characters travel together, which is something introduced in Mario Party 9 and was something that not everybody loved. I think it's a good idea because it makes the game go faster. It's a perfectly adequate Mario Party game, now in HD for the first time ever. There's nothing spectacular about it, but it's still fun. If you've never played (or owned) a Mario Party game before, then I would definitely recommend picking this one up. For everyone else who has played the many previous games, there's not much reason to get this.As a last note, you do need Wii remotes to play this game -- not WiiU controllers. Bowser mode is quite fun as it makes great use of the gamepad and adds a new element to the game but again it is still hindered by the fact everyone moves around the same on one cart and it comes down to luck with how many spaces you move away from bowser. The new amiibo mode was the most close to the original mario party games where it was a circular board, you moved around it to collect the stars and you played a mini game after everyone went. You could also switch out quadrants of the board to different character areas based on what amiibos you have. There was a major flaw with this mode though, one of them being for any action you had to touch and remove your amiibo from the gamepad instead of just simply pressing A. The other is the board was literally a circle and not much depth was in the board as it there was in other mario party's. Gave 2 stars because of the mini games being fun (when you could play them), and kids might enjoy the more striped down mode. Other then that, if you are looking for the old mario party fun I would stay away from this game.

Fun game but not the best in the series

Note: I haven't played the amiibo mode yet. This game was great to play with a bunch of people, but seems less competitive than previous releases in the series. Unlike other releases, everyone moves together in one cart, and instead of counting turns, the game ends when you get to the end of the board. Like previous games, you play mini-games based on spaces you land on and once everyone has finished their turn. The reason I said less competitive is that multiple people said it felt like it was harder to play against your opponents and hinder them in some way. It feels like you're really just playing with people instead of playing against them. You control Bowser and create a 1v4 environment where you are trying to catch up to the four on the board and knock them out of the game. In keeping with the friendly nature of mario party, people knocked out can come back in, so it's not permanent. Knocked out players just make it easier for Bowser to catch up. This mode adds all the offensive competitive nature back into the game as you try to hinder the opposing team.I wish there was more attacking other characters in the normal game, but that doesn't make this a bad game. This is a really fun for a family friendly game or friendly competitive game.

It's not a bad first entry for the Mario Party series on Wii U, but long time fans will probably not love the new gameplay style. Rather than a traditional "around the board" style of play, all players now ride in a vehicle together from start to finish. It's linear, feels a bit more predictable, and should have been a secondary mode to the original style. At the very least, you could add the option to do "start to finish" but with players moving separately.Skip the Amiibo party mode. You'll spend so much time taking the Amiibos on/off the gamepad, that it will lose it's appeal very quickly, and heaven help you if you have kids who are obsessed with Amiibos. If you do, you'll soon be wishing that Amiibo Party didn't exist. The Bowser mode is the real higlight ... MoreIt's not a bad first entry for the Mario Party series on Wii U, but long time fans will probably not love the new gameplay style. It's pretty satisfying, and playing as Bowser feels overpowered, but doesn't actually break the game. There's enough satisfaction here that this mode alone makes the game a worthwhile pickup, but not enough to forgive the overall lack of depth in the rest of the game.Summary: Pick this one up...when it goes on sale.

Great for the family/friends to enjoy!

Had so much playing with my girlfriend. A lot of people didnt like the cart system but besides that mini games were where it was at. And of course it doesnt come close to the classic board games but its still very enjoyable to play with friends family and spouses. Game came the same condition as the picture and details shown. Even better came earlier then expected thank you again!

This game continues the unrivaled success of the mario party serie . The best part of the game of course is playing mini games with your friends, always a joy and definitely exciting and challenging. The game has some great features like being able to disable luck games if you want to play skill onl . Also, the inclusion of amiibos is fun, although notell that though all amiibos can be linked up for a daily bonus, only the character amiibos found in the game itself can be played on the amiibo board. The second is the group board where everyone travels together trying to get the most mini stars, my least favorite because I would prefer to travel separately. Arguably my favorite mode is the bowser mode, in which the goal is to reach the end and get the star before he stops you, more challenging and exciting then one would expect, but definitely loads of fun. Overall a fantastic game, though I would recommend getting at least one amiibo to play the amiibo board if you like to travel individually.

Ok so as a Classic Mario Party Player here I can hopefully expect some good things from a game that is now on it's TENTH part of the series not including it's Portable Mario Party games!Anyways we will start with Standard Mario Party mode. Right then well, it's playable and can be fun but it's still got that stupid ride on car stuff they forced on you in Mario Party 9. I guess they didn't get the memo that, that system was awful.....It ruins the board game fun of being able to CONTROL your character. It leaves it down to luck on the board and how good you are at the mini games. You can't use strategy on the board anymore -_- HUGE problem there.Right then here's where that cart system actually works! Bowser mode! It's 4 vs 1 in this 5 player game mode. It's actually a LOT of fun and really works! Was not disappointed and this mode kind of makes this Mario Party not entirely that bad I recommend playing this mode.Right then so your expected this is next gen on a wifi based console so there's a internet mode right?Wrong. Sorry there is NO Online Multiplayer. A much needed feature that could've made this game a amazing hit. (Who is in charge of game design? I could've picked better features....)And finally amiibo board mode. This mode is much more like classic mario party and isn't that bad to play as you can actually control each character differently.. It can be pretty awesome and simple but it's lacking quite a bit at the same time. The excessive requirement of amiibo's even to just roll your dice is kind of annoying if you don't want to keep the pad on a close by coffee table and be able to keep tapping the amiibo to the gameboard. It just seems over done as a feature for the amiibos.Over a fun game but not worth full price. Definitely get on sale or used. Then it'll be worth it for sure. Game can be possibly saved with game updates if they add more features, Online, board game controls etc.We will see how it goes I guess since Nintendo's DLC has been rather good past generation.

I'm a huge Mario Party fan. I've been playing this game installment since it was on Nintendo 64. I was excited for this release on the WiiU, but a little disappointed in the game play. You have the option to play the classic version of Mario Party, or a new Bowser Party version. I've only played the classic as it seems the Bowser version is only something fun to play with a big group. They have 5 different game boards and all of them are 30 minutes long. I don't like that everyone has to move together in a vehicle, instead of independently like the classic version. They also got rid of collecting coins and needing money to pay for stars. Now stars are won in mini-games, as well as buy going through "gates" during the board game with a lucky spin of the dice. The mini games are fun, but some of the instructions aren't clear so it's frustrating. Who has time to practice MiniGames each time? #AintNobodyGotTimeForThat Mini games are only played if landing on spots with hidden mini-game blocks, instead of each time the round of players rolling the dice block ends. It makes the whole Mario Party experience extremely quick, and there's no way to choose the length of the game play. So if you want to play more than 30 minutes, you need to start up another game. If I had the choice between buying this game or buying the GameCube Mario Party versions for the WiiU in the UShop, I'd choose the GameCube versions 100% of the time. They're just more fun to play. Thanks for the disappointment Nintendo.

If your an avid player of mario parties 1-8, forget everything you know about mario party and come at this with a clean slate. You will appreciate the game much more if you do. Here's why: There are no stars and no coins, only mini stars, and they come and go so often that there feels like there is little value to them. You can win every mini game, and someone can pass through some mini star gates and be beating you in a turn or two. There's competition, but little strategy is involved. The boards are point a to point b, so you can't have 50 turn games or adjust how long you play each game at all. Everyone moves together. Mini games are more sparse, you only get them if you land on a mini game space. There's not much to unlock, and anything important to unlock ... MoreIf your an avid player of mario parties 1-8, forget everything you know about mario party and come at this with a clean slate. There's not much to unlock, and anything important to unlock (characters, modes, sleighs) were unlocked in a single evening. However, I will hold my ground with the four star rating, because if you come at this with a fresh mind, it's fun to play, and there's a lot of different modes to keep you interested. Also, it's 5 players which is awesome because there always seems to be an odd number of us together. The idea of playing bowser brings out all of our evil sides. I love how the use the game pad in the games, I just wish there were more. I've recorded videos and had many laughs over Bowser Mode. I also like that four of us get to play coop instead of fighting each other for once. The amiibo gameplay is great and I love the little details they included with it, but the board is so small, it would have been nice to have a little more elaborate of a board to play on to make it a little less boring. I also cannot play my favorite character because her Amiibo was limited run, and we had to go out and buy another amiibo because the bowser one we had changed the gameplay. The standard party is pretty much similar to Mario party 9, so if you hated it, you'll probably hate this too. They did add a neat concept of freeing bowser from the game pad, which we like. The way I see it is if I want to play the old way I have the old games to go back to, and this way is fun too, you just lose some of that competition and strategy you get in the old ones. It's almost like they keep dumming them down so anyone can win.Anyways, pick it up, it's fun, just make sure to have a clean mind going into it!
