I love classic Mario Party. I think it's some of the most fun you can have in a party game, so I am extremely glad to see the series go back to its classic roots. Mario Party has not been good since NDCube picked it up, with them trying out new things that nobody really asked for, and it fails as a result. But with Superstars, the classic Mario Party that everybody loves is back. They played this game pretty safe, with pretty much no new ideas or innovation, but that's actually alright for this game. I would much prefer a culmination of the best things about the series than a new and bad idea once again. Plus, I highly recommend this game over Super Mario Party for the Switch as well. So in my opinion, this is the obvious choice for the Switch if you're looking into some chaotic fun to play with friends and family.

The game has amazing graphics and is very Mario-esc...but men, I suck at this game and I am pretty good at these. My wife bets with me that if she beats me, she gets to pick where we eat. Well....she always wins and I do not let her win either, then when I ask her where she wants to go to eat, she is like IDK. I am like, you won the game and made the bet. She would not let me choose but still was not sure where she wanted to eat. We ended up being at McDonald's at 9pm because that's where she decided. I did not want to deal with that ever again, so I put the game in a random mailbox on my way to work so I can enjoy my 6pm dinner time. The game looks great, just I do not want to wait to eat so late again.

Note: To be honest the last mario party for switch wasn't great I mean no pro controller compatibility, some weird mini games and only 10 coins for a star kinda made it too easy and took a lot of the fun out of this classic game...BUT this new Mario Party Superstars is a Fantastic omage to the older classic verisons while adding some new elements. PROS: The older N64 and other console maps look beautifully refreshed in HD, some of the best of all time mini games are on this game, you can customise the games you play by console, difficulty or just choose them all. Lots of character choices, good opening sequence, 20 coins are needed for stars as it should be lol. Joy-Con and, pro controller compatibility. Fun for hours of play with family, friends, or even solo play ... Very good return to form for Mario Party finally!!! I've been with the series since the start, and this game I feel is what the series has been needing for quite some time. A great celebration of the series as a whole (though the focus is more on the N64 titles, which I'm okay with), I think it really delivers what Top 100 failed to do: Give us a good proper Mario Party that celebrates the series. My personal opinions, there are some mini-games I do wish this game chose over the ones it did, but it has a solid line-up overall I feel. They did great with the boards, and even the ones I was meh about in their original incarnations, what they did to rebalance and fix those boards, they did an excellent job here. The people who worked on this I feel really gets the series. I do think 5 boards is a bit small (iirc, the first Mario Party had 8), so I hope to see more boards in DLC, but what they have are a lot of fun. The remastered music is great too. I love what they did with the boards, even giving nice remixes for the last 5 turns. I enjoy you can choose to listen to the original board tracks too once you beat a board. I also really love that they took their time to remaster every song from every mini-game chosen, unlike the Top 100. I'll even go as far to say that some of the few things I did enjoy in Super Mario Party, they brought back into this game, while leaving the stuff I found myself not liking, out. The pacing is SO much faster like the older titles, and you're not having to wait out so many unnecessary animations just to make the game longer. 10 turns should not take an hour! I also really like that they rebalanced the items system so it's not completely broken like in Super. It feels much more balanced and it's nice to see stars at 20 coins again, and Golden Pipes not being super busted. While there's still a couple of games in this series I do prefer, I definitely think this is a top Mario Party and the best this series has had to offer for a long time. If you're a fan of the series, I highly recommend picking it up, I really do think there's something in here for every fan, both old and new.
For me, Superstars returns to the classic and successful formula of the old Mario Party games. Unlike the previous Mario Party title on Switch, there is real challenge, there is jeopardy, and in that there is tremendous excitement and thrilling gameplay. It's just a shame that the execution of the successful format isn't quite as good in Superstars as compared to say Mario Party 4, the golden standard in my opinion. But it only barely falls short. To be specific with my criticism, it's the transitions and sounds. When you had a Reversal of Fortune square you were lifted into this magical realm in Mario Party 4, or land on a Versus Square, to find bob-ombs exploded, dramatic music started, and you knew the stakes were being raised high. So dynamic, so exciting! ... MoreFor me, Superstars returns to the classic and successful formula of the old Mario Party games. So dynamic, so exciting! Whereas in Superstars, there's just a generic fade to white and that's it. There's no excitement there. No extravagance. No flair. The items were slightly better executed as well. The mega and mini-mushrooms are sorely missed. Most of the items in Superstars are just variations of dice. Where's the Mario flavour? You could have a poison mushroom instead of the cursed dice. Or a mega mushroom instead of the double dice. Just to make it feel more grounded in the Mario world.Overall though, this game is a fantastic return to a better Mario Party format. And the gameplay is pretty good! And that shouldn't be understated at all. Really good job returning to this kind of Mario Party experience. The entries after 4 were not good at all.Just wish there were some GameCube era boards in Superstars, like the Shy Guy one, or Bowser one from Mario Party 4 perhaps. DLC maybe...?
I have never been so fulfilled in my life. After the mediocrity of Super Mario Party, and the gimmicky mess that was Mario Party 10, it felt so good to be back to a format that I can vibe with. The minigames in this collection are absolute classic (apart from a couple that are really a rehash of each other) and makes me feel al warm and fuzzy inside. Playing these minigames took me back to a time where there was innocence. When the world was not rife with disease. Where I could play Mario Party games in the same room with my friends. Granted, we could still do that (and is also the optimal way to party) the matchmaking kinda sucks right now.... I mean why can't I find matches when two people are playing on my Switch? There is no where you can get that but here. In this, the ultimate Mario Party experience! This is the way it should always be.
This is what we have been waiting for in the Mario Party franchise. The previous Mario Party thag came out 2 years ago or so was okay but fell short. However, this game, Mario Party Superstars, goes back to the roots, brings back classic boards and minigames, has updated visuals, and retain all the charm of what makes a Mario Party game. The controls are spot on. The boards have much variety with the original board mechanics that made them fun. The mini games are excellent. This game really did take the original and mastered it for present day on the newest Nintendo console. Another huge pro is that it comes with online play out of the box! It would be really cool to see more boards to be added to the game from the N64 days. But for now, this game is great. If you ... If you've been waiting for a Mario Party game in the vein of the classics without all the gimmicks (e.g., no moving around the board on a shared vehicle, no "allies", no grid-based boards, etc.), Mario Party Superstars is for you. While it only has five boards, which are all from Mario Party 1, 2, and 3, they are some of the most fun and memorable boards (Peach's Birthday Cake and Horror Land are standouts). It has countless minigames from Mario Party 1 through 10, and you will not find yourself repeating the same minigame two or three times in one game like in Super Mario Party. However, if your Internet is poor or your WiFi signal is spotty, you may want to utilize a wired LAN connection to your Switch (USB-to-LAN adapter required for older Switch models). The game could use more extras and customizations (e.g., more boards, more music choices within the boards, costumes, more characters), but overall, it is a return to form for Mario Party. Let's hope Nintendo keeps up the great work in future iterations.
I just finished i fun family game night in witch we play Mario party superstars. I know this is a game designed for family fun but this evening it lead to much controversy and some seemingly rigged randomly generated numbers. I saw a gam in witch I was leading by 2 full stars go the other way when I was beaten by my brother. This is fine and all once or twice, but me and my poor family members can contest that this happens every god forsaken time. My family believes there is a player one bias as well as bias for npc’s. If you’re going to take anything from this review let it be that some mechanics in this game are just crazy but overall I love this game
Mario Party: Superstars is what Mario Party: The Top 100 should have been. It had 100 minigames spanning the 10 mainline games, and every game like it belongs. It's fun to say "I remember this minigame," and it's just as fun to say "Oh, I almost forgot about that minigame." All 6 boards span across the 3 Nintendo 64 Mario Party games. Sometimes it can be a jarring difference to go from a Mario Party 1 board to a Mario Party 2 board to a Mario Party 3 board, but Mario Party: Superstars somehow makes it work. This game really rides on the nostalgia. The opening sequence and the hub world menu points back to the opening and hub world of the first Mario Party. Since it's kind of hard to make a story mode out a compilation game, Mario Party: Superstars gives single player achievements to do. Some require achieving specific goals in specific boards, other require gamers to reach a huge accomplishment within a single party, yet other require the player to rack up a career high over several playthroughs. It provides its own fun to see if you get the achievement over winning the party, and it's even more fun to see if you can get the achievement, and then come back from behind to become the superstar. My biggest complaint is the lack of motion control games. When Mario Party introduced motion control minigames in Mario Party 8, I never felt like the motions controls were forced. They could have worked in Mario Party: Super Stars. Just like with Super Mario Party, a grand total of 6 boards feels underwhelming for a greatest hits Mario Party game. I would have like to see 9 boards: 3 from each of the Nintendo 64 Mario Party games. Overall, this may be my favorite Mario Party because it just may be the best Mario Party game. Also, fun fact: your cat may be interested in the vine swinging minigame!
