Marshall Acton III Bluetooth Speaker (Black)

The Marshall Acton III is larger than ordinary portable Bluetooth speakers, such as Marshall's Emberton series, but it is the smallest one in the entire Marshall "home series", so it has a relatively moderate "status". Acton III still continues Marshall's series of classic designs. The speaker has a wooden frame as a whole, with imitation leather texture on the top and left and right sides. The front is a white fiber woven grille, with the iconic Marshall logo in handwriting placed inside, giving a strong retro style. Brass color matching will naturally not be absent. On the top of the speaker, various physical buttons are arranged in sequence, including switches for the 3.5mm input port, audio source switching, volume control, treble and bass control buttons, and so on. The metal texture of the entire area has been treated with a layer of wire drawing. This combination of black and gold is undoubtedly a more classic and restrained design combination.

A small speaker with BIG sound!

It's made to look vintage but with a modern twist. The top has manual, vintage-appearing switches and dials but the device is fully connectable via Bluetooth. The range is also quite impressive. I am using an iPhone 14 Pro Max and was able to maintain a connection with this marvelous Bluetooth speaker on another floor of my home (approximately 3,400 square-feet). I left my phone upstairs and the speaker continue to play loud, clear, bass-rich music effortlessly. For anyone looking for a relatively small speaker with a LOT of great sound - this is a great option. As an audiophile, I am beyond impressed.

The knobs have red checks to show you where the volume is set...just really cool looking...Gorgeous really...It is going to be a conversation piece to be sure at get togethers. Like I said...You walk by it...you stop and take a stare! But has to have the sound right. When I began to pair it, it prompted my phone to get the app....super easy.. I did and it immediately paired seamlessly. BAM! I was off and running. I started with some Queen Bohemian Rhapsody for the treble and highs and I was BLOWN AWAY! its such a dynamic song that will run a speaker through the paces from bass to highs and really lets me get a feel for what I have available to me in a sound profile...JUST AMAZING!!! Felt like Freddy was in the room with me. It was surprising how well balanced the sound was from one speaker!!!! Next was Queen's "Another one Bites the Dust"... That bass line is such a classic and the Acton III did it proud. I decided to run some old school rap...ICE cube's "Check Yo Self" and "It Was a Good Day" and It handled the heavy bass and sounded amazing!!! For the next 2 hours just ran through all my songs...They sounded so amazing!!!!! TOP TIERE SOUND!!!!Like most things...My wife rolled her eyes when I said I got the Marshal Acton III...UNTIL she heard me testing it....She was next to me in a second and wanted to connect her phone... Which was super easy. I pressed the bluetooth button for a few seconds and her phone saw it immediately and she was playing her favorite songs. It's really cool because we are both connected at the same time. I also like that if I have a song playing she cannot interrupt it until I pause what I am playing. Once I pause what I am playing...boom she on it with what ever she wants. Really cool!!! I was hoping that more than two could connect so when I have friends over we could take turns DJ'ing but a las...only two people...Maybe next gen??The app is cool and very convenient for adjusting the bass and treble and volume when you are away from the speaker... I like to actually turn the knobs...they are velvet smooth and firm enough to micro adjust...butter. When adjusting with the knob the app shows the number and vice versa. The aux in a nice touch...I might try to get a guitar plugged into it one of these days with some adapters to down size the plug!Overall though (despite being the sexiest speaker I have ever seen) the sound is really the winner...It sounds like what you know or would imagine a Marshall speaker would sound....world class!Note: This has the AC plug so consider that if you want to decoratively put on a shelf. That's the only real problem I have ...Where to put this beauty?? Kitchen cabinet? Book shelf in the living room???? I just don't know! Probably why I will buy another one.5 Stars because I can't give it 6 on here!!! Rock and Roll!

Would be a great present to receive.Practicalities:Everything about it is quality, from the packaging, to the switches, to the classy classic look. The sound source I used was Spotify and it created a really nice rich sound.Sound:This feels a bit weird to write, but listening to music on this speaker which I listen to all the time on other devices was hugely enjoyable. So much better than my other digital speakers or headphones. I could really pick out instruments and feel the music. It was a lot like being at a gig when I closed my eyes, daft as that sounds!I can caught myself being excited to hear different types of music on it and ended actually stopping and sitting down to listen to music, rather than just having tunes on in the background. I'm 47 and it took me back to being in my 20s again. My taste are at the jazz, funk, soul, classical end of the spectrum. The kinds of recordings that seemed to come alive most were old analogue recordings that had been digitised (like Glen Miller or Lalo Schifrin). The bass got a touch overloaded on some of the really extreme stuff up really loud, but that's the only thing I can fault it on sound-wise.I found it sounded best in a mid sized room (4m x 4m). We've got a big conservatory and whilst it sounded good, it was sensational in a close setting.Thinking of buying another one for the bedroom now.

Great looking speaker
19 November 2022

I use this speaker in my (very messy) garden room/office to listen to music and podcasts while I'm working. It's a good looking, weighty and solidly built speaker, it deserves to be in a great looking room but until I get my act together it lives here but that doesn't mean it doesn't do a great job. The sound from it is amazing, whether it's music or speech and I like to listen to things loud so clear undistorted sound is what I need and what I get. I'm not really techie about bass etc so I haven't really explored the treble or bass controls, volume and Bluetooth are what I need. It connects seamlessly and very quickly to two different devices at the same time so I can switch between them rather than disconnecting one which just adds a little bit more convenience. I have three other bluetooth speakers from very cheap to similarly priced to this one (but that one is a much smaller speaker) and they all have their place especially since they're all rechargeable and therefore portable. Which is the only drawback to the Acton as it's wired but without going into the technical specs I don't think I'd get the power from it if it wasn't wired, or at least I'd have to recharge it often. Now I just need to decide where I'll listen to it the most and find it a permanent place to live in my home.

This wasn't an issue in practice.I would have really liked this unit to have batteries, or to be a little more portable, so it could follow me around the house.I'd recommend this to someone looking for a beefy Bluetooth speaker, who doesn't need/want direct Wi-Fi connectivity.

This speaker delivers on all fronts. The app or manual dials on the speaker let you fine tune your audio preferences with bass and treble adjustments from 1-10 ranges.I played audio from my iPhone from several sources like Prime Music, Spotify, and Pandora. With how well this speaker projects, I was able to notice some new unfamiliar instrument contributions from some of my favorite songs.Future proofing this speaker is the app’s ability to update firmware. You can also adjust the placement compensation so the speaker can excel considering where you have it placed. It takes things like walls and countertops and can ensure maximum sound projecting giving your space. I also really like the manual toggle power switch and it mirrors the look and feel of other quality Marshall audio products. For the size of this speaker it does really shock you how loud it can be, all the while maintaining the quality of the audio!Highly recommend this speaker for someone looking for a really retro/classic high quality bluetooth speaker. This would be at home in any man cave or bar area.Well done Marshall!

Stylish bluetooth speakers with great volume and easy to use

I connected my phone with this device and use it to listen to the radio and to music. It was really easy to pair - the instructions are simple and clear and it took no time at all to pair them. I haven't had any problems with this connection working, although I haven't experimented to see how far apart the phone and speakers can be before it stops working. The volume is great - I rarely use it on full as I don't want to upset my neighbours, but it definitely is better than the older, simpler speakers I used to have. The sound quality is very good and you can adjust bass and treble. I can adjust volume from my phone or using the device itself.I'm sure smaller, sleeker speakers exist, but I really love the retro style of these speakers. The brass buttons add a touch of class, and it looks really stylish. They are easy to move around the house, I just move them from room to room if needed. They need to be plugged in so are more something to use at home rather than out and about (I have more portable ones for bbqs and picnics).Overall I am really pleased with the style and function of these speakers. I haven't compared their features to other models of the same value, but based on my experience of using them I think they are pretty good value for money and I would recommend them. Of all the bluetooth devices I have, these were the easiest to pair with my phone.

Stylish retro speaker

I received this speaker in a free trial and have been very impressed by it. The looks are really distinctive, just like a mini version of the classic electric guitar amplifier. Some people may prefer a more minimalist look but I love it, it really makes a statement on my shelf. The speaker itself is solid and compact and beautifully made - it feels like a high quality product. I particularly love the copper coloured control panel at the top (which contrasts beautifully with the crackle black), which has solid retro style knobs for the volume, bass and treble, and a retro on/off switch. The switches are complimented by red lighting which shows the level of volume, treble etc. As well as looking great the controls are really handy - it is nice to be able to adjust the ... MoreI received this speaker in a free trial and have been very impressed by it. I also have Sonos speakers and I hadn't realised I was missing this feature until I tried the Marshall. The sound quality is very high - a warm, full sound, with a lot of power given its size, comparing favourably with the Sonos. The app was easy to download and use and the speaker was quick to set up. I haven't tried it because I don't own anything suitable, but it also has an auxiliary jack so you can connect external devices (you might even be able to use it as a guitar amp!). Overall I was very impressed - it is a premium product and it's looks really make it stand out. I would definitely recommend.

This knocked me out!

This little Bluetooth speaker from Marshall is a winner! The unit has a retro vibe that reminds me strongly of the vintage Marshall guitar amplifiers in appearance and is no slouch in the sound department either! The unit's packaging has been clearly thought out and sports recyclable materials throughout. I really appreciated being able to get the box open easily and to find minimal product literature packed inside. In fact, I was surprised at the brevity of the "Getting Started" instructions. However, it turned out that this was one of the easiest products to get powered on and linked to that I have used in quite some time. The app is a joy to use. My cellphone detected the speaker immediately, pointed me to the app store and began downloading without a hitch. This product is an example of how ALL Bluetooth devices should work! The speaker has a very high quality feel to it. From the vinyl wrapped exterior to the satisfying heft of the box itself, it reminded me very much of Marshall's amps and just exuded quality construction. All of the switches and controls feel solid and silky when you use them.I played a wide variety of content from multiple sources and the sound quality was outstanding. The speaker has a 4 inch woofer and two 3/4 inch angled tweeters in a bass reflex design (rear ported) and punches way above its weight. You have separate volume, bass, and treble controls and this thing plays PLENTY loud. The app offers limited bass/treble controls and offers some tuning for room placement via a simple Q&A dialog.Overall the Acton III deserves your serious consideration!

little speaker got the beats

When I see the Marshall name, I think crunchy distorted guitar and stacks of 4x12 speaker cabinets 4 units high and 25 or so units wide, blasting a Kirk Hammett, Jeff Hanneman, or Eddie Van Halen guitar solo to a stadium with 40,000+ that paid for seats they never used.So imagine my surprise when I see they make Bluetooth speakers. They’re styled like miniature versions of their amps and speaker cabinets. While they’re surprisingly light for their size, they punch above their weight class. The model I received is the Action III. It’s small - about 10 inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 6 inches tall with its feet. It requires mains power, so it’ll sit in your study, kitchen, or bedroom and probably not move. It’s small - about 10 inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 6 inches tall with its feet. It requires mains power, so it’ll sit in your study, kitchen, or bedroom and probably not move. The most noticeable thing about the Action III is how solid the switchgear feels - a heavy toggle that feels like it came off an actual Marshall amp, buttons for playback controls and pairing that feel substantial, and knobs that feel like solid analog knobs (though they’re all rotary encoders with red LED indicators to show you volume, treble, and bass levels). Unboxing was easy enough, with molded cardboard around the speaker unit itself.Pairing was straightforward on my iPhone. Once done, you’ll want to download the Marshall Bluetooth app - which, as an absolute win, does not require an email address to function. The app allows you to adjust treble and bass response, along with wall and shelf compensation.Audio quality is remarkably good - solid treble and incredibly deep bass response for its size. It also gets very loud, though bass does distort at higher volumes - expected for the amplifier power (1x30 for the woofer and 2x15 for the tweeters). Everything I threw at it - NOFX’s “Don’t Count On Me”, TI and Rihanna’s “Live Your Life”, Mighty Mighty Bosstones’”Wonderful Day for a Race”, Avenge Sevenfold’s “Thick and Thin”, Yo-yo Ma’s rendition of Bach’s Unaccompanied Cello Suite, Pompeii’s rendition of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly”, and the Charles Mingus Band’s rendition of “Moanin’”. What was most surprising was clean the instruments sounded - you could hear hear the different parts of horn sections, guitars sounded like they should, and even a baritone sax “honk” sounded like the musician was in the room.Only real negative? This speaker isn’t portable. But that’s okay because it wasn’t meant to be. Also, it could be considered pricy compared to other options but you won’t get this amount of quality sound in a package this small. And if it wasn’t for the control app not requiring an email to work, I would subtract a star for the lack of AirPlay, Chromecast, Sonos, or other wifi speaker tech. It’s a solid value for a smaller listening space, no matter what genre of music you like. The lack of wifi audio doesn’t subtract enough from a quality aural and app experience to not give this 5 stars.
