Brilliant amp and great service from PMT

Really happy with my DSL40CR amp- it’s a great upgrade to what I was playing with before and it sounds brilliant. The channels are voiced differently with varying amounts of gain and this makes it so adaptable to different musical styles. Unmistakable Marshall growl and then a roar when you crank it. The foot switch is fine for my needs - not particularly fussed about buying the 6-way pedal to have every channel on tap. It is a little heavy, but not much more than my previous amp that was loaded with a Vintage 30 speaker. No inbuilt fx, aside from reverb, but that’s not what it’s about- I use the fx loop with pedals and it’s all good. Quick delivery from PMT and the whole process was smooth from start to finish - thanks guys!!! 🤘🤘

Very nice sounding compact amplifier. The 0.5 Watt low-power option is very suitable for home usage while still maintaining the sound quality. Definitely for a 10 inch speaker the sound is very impressive! In 5 Watt mode it is even very loud.I like that the amplifier has an effects loop.An extra overdrive channel would have been nice.

Great tube head

This head sounds great, I play it through a mx212ar speaker cabinet. I’ve also got a dsl5cr combo and a dsl100hr head and I like the sound of the 20w head the best - loads of gain in the ultra channel and classic Marshall sound with the classic gain channel cranked up. It’s extremely loud so needs an attenuator to play in a house unless you don’t have neighbours. Easily loud enough to play in a band in a small venue.

Little monster - great sound!

This little Marshall thinks it is bigger then life and acts and sounds like this. From nice clean to a liitle over-edged to crunch on the classic channel to full distortion on the ultra channel it does it all with ease. The EQ is very effective and three band, the reverb is OK but not exceptional. This little amp has an emulated output, supplied by Softtube, an FX loop, Aux in and a power reduction button that reduces the amps power to 0.1 Watt. With the amp comes a remote pedal to switch channels.Does it sound like a Marshall, hell yes it does in every way it can. It misses the OOMPH of a 12inch speaker, but he, this is only an 8 inch speaker and made for the bedroom noodlers who do not want to disturb the neighbours! This amp is highly recommendable to anyone ...Ā MoreThis little Marshall thinks it is bigger then life and acts and sounds like this. Marshal DSL1CR the ultimate portable practice amp

You know, to get the tube/valve sound, one has to crank the amp and that can hurt the ears and upset your family and neighbours. Not any more. This amp still sounds and feels great at 80-85db in 0.1watt mode when you are at home. That is still loud for a night practice though and the amp can go as loud as 100db in the 1watt mode, which is very loud in a small room. The combo sounds surprisingly full with plenty of bass. Quality sound and feel at lower volumes.I also like the reverb, first half sounds like a mix of spring in amp and hall type and when the reverb is dimed, it sounds similar to overdriven spring in amp reverb type. The Emulated out works and sound alright but playing through the speaker is a lot more inspiring and I'd recommend micing the amp for ...Ā MoreYou know, to get the tube/valve sound, one has to crank the amp and that can hurt the ears and upset your family and neighbours. Great device with Hi-Fi quality sound.Used it with Yerasov muffler 150 as load, amt pangaea cp100-fx as speaker simulator with some Impulse responses, boss bd-2w and pre-amplifier sl/ld from R&R Sound. And even with this many devices it produces quality sound as in single.Really like the sound it permits to produce from classic clean to very recognizable sound from father of Loud Marshall.

Marshall DSL20HR, stunning !

This amp head looks absolutely fabulous when sitting on the top of Marshall MX212AR vertical cab.If used at home, you will need an attenuator, preferably with a reactive load, to get the most out of it at low volumes.Reverb sounds to me as small hall type and goes from none to very audible. This head made in October 2019 works as intended. The volume knobs work with Emulated OUT and the sound is surprisingly good.To be honest I was not very impressed with the head running into 70/80 speakers but the cab upgrade to Celestion AType and VType really made me appreciate how good this amp is.Pedals work well in the loop as well as at the front, but expect some pedals may be noisier than others.I usually set the shared EQ for the ultra gain channel because the classic ...Ā MoreThis amp head looks absolutely fabulous when sitting on the top of Marshall MX212AR vertical cab.If used at home, you will need an attenuator, preferably with a reactive load, to get the most out of it at low volumes.Reverb sounds to me as small hall type and goes from none to very audible. This head made in October 2019 works as intended. The volume knobs work with Emulated OUT and the sound is surprisingly good.To be honest I was not very impressed with the head running into 70/80 speakers but the cab upgrade to Celestion AType and VType really made me appreciate how good this amp is.Pedals work well in the loop as well as at the front, but expect some pedals may be noisier than others.I usually set the shared EQ for the ultra gain channel because the classic gain channel sounds good in any setting to my ears.I hope this new DSL20HR made in October 2019 will be a reliable work horse. The date of the DSL20HR on the barcode is important. Steer clear of those made early, I had 2 heads made in December 2017 and both suffered from volume knobs not working with Emulated Out, had windy popping noise (check marshallforum for the ills of the early batches) and one was repaired 2x with flashing/dark power switch, they were returned for a refund (purchased from a different vendor), but this head made in October 2019 works well, I can confirm that. Good service at DV247 . Highly recommended.

Review of Marshall DSL40CR 40W Valve Combo
17 January 2023

I’ve got a few valve amps, but never had a Marshall before. Always wanted one, so went for the DSL-40CR as a good workhorse amp for home and gigging use. Great tones and very flexible with the 6 button foot switch giving me effectively clean, crunch and two gain stages on the drive channel, plus footswitchable master for a solo boost. Not gigged yet, but it’s loud enough for pub gigs for sure.

I was going either for a Blackstar HT-20 mk2 combo,or a Boss Kstana mk2 100W combo in the first place but wasnā€˜t happy with the sound of both. My old Mardhall Valvestate has broken down and was due for replacement. My need was an amp that could do clean to crunchy to distortion nicely and would take standard pedals like a TS or a fuzz well without turning the amp into rocket science. The Blackstar had too much bottom end and the gain structure didnā€˜t really change when increasing the gain in any channel. To me, it seemed that just more of the same was added, like in a dry/wet mix function. The Katana just didnā€˜t take my Explorer well, respectively it had a certain fizziness to my ears and just wasnā€˜t matching my expectations. So after consulting the YouTube (big shoutout to Johann Segeborn) I decided to go for a Marshall again, I actually really like the Marshall sound and who the hell needs an amp that can do Fender, Vox and Marshall at once anyways.... Anertons was one of the few stores in Europe who hsd the DSL 40 on stock and Captain Lee just seems like a trustworthy guy, so who not order from the UK even though Iā€˜m from Germany. And what can I say?! Fantastic service and an awesome amp! The two channels with their voicings offer all I need, the amp just sounds great and interacts perfectly with my pedals.

Undoubtedly the very best value for money valve amp in the world. Goes from sweet cleans to demonic metal.
4 April 2016

I have now had my Marshall DSL40c for over 2 years. I bought it over a Blackstar HT40, The amp puts out thundering bass and soaring treble and mids and lets you capture the true sound of rock and metal. Having said that it is not only a hard rock amp. It has great cleans and a huge range of tonal possibilities. The amp takes some time to settle in. There is an initial period in which the amp sounds a bit harsh and trebly and the treble needs to be rolled back quite a bit but after the initial running in period it really smooths out dramatically. Right now I would not swap it for another amp for any money. It is just perfect for me. That is not to say that the amp is perfect. It is not. I run a zoom pd-01 and a rat and they both sound really amazing. The zoom lets me run the amp at very low volumes with decent tone. In case you are wondering I use both a Strat and a Tele. Overall I could not recommend it more.
