I've tested this using all three inputs, RCA, Aux, and Bluetooth. The sound is warm and the speaker seems deliberately tuned towards providing a deep bass response. I found myself dialling the bass down somewhat as a result, between 3-4 on the EQ. I feel that it leans heavily on its delivery of punchy, booming lows, sometimes at the expense of the mids and higher frequencies, again this can be mitigated through the use of the in-built EQ.Depending on your choice of music, this speaker is a great option for those looking for room filling sound in a relatively small package. I say depending on your choice of music, because the speaker really excels when paired with a good audio source, and seems targeted (little surprise given the Marshall branding) at rock, classic rock, and modern music enthusiasts. That's not to say that it's incapable of providing an enjoyable experience for classical music fans however. I just feel that you have to work harder, wrangling with the EQ, correctly positioning the speaker, ideally at ear height, and providing a really clean hi-res file to get a satisfying separation of instruments within an orchestra. This is where a wired connection really shines through with this speaker — when listening to the same Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi tracks, streamed from Tidal (Hi-fi), and comparing them to a competent DAP connected through RCA or Aux, there's a night and day difference. The Bluetooth seems cluttered by comparison, the wired connection providing much better separation and a more convincing stereo illusion as a result.Moving on to a few of the shortcomings of the speaker. There is a persistent, low-level hiss that's present with all of the audio inputs. It becomes more pronounced with the wired connections at volume levels over 7, though it's really only audible from a distance of about 2 feet when no music is playing. It's basically a non-issue, though if you intend to use the speaker at low volumes in relatively close proximity to your head, just be mindful of it. I should also note that I actually returned the first speaker to determine whether this was a fault with the unit or just a quirk of the product. I can confirm that the hiss was present with both units, so full marks for consistency, I guess. The speaker also has an annoying tendency to fall asleep when left alone for a while, and then upon reconnecting will start playing your music for about 5 seconds, only to then interrupt it with the connection notification sound. I don't need to be notified of the connection; I can hear the music coming from the device. This also happens with wired connections for some reason. Something of a nit-pick, but a slight annoyance nonetheless.I appreciate that this review may seem a bit over the top and verbose for a speaker of this kind, but I really struggled to find a detailed review online that answered a lot of the questions I had prior to purchase. In short, is this a good speaker? Yes. Will it replace a dedicated stereo setup? Probably not, though it may be more practical depending on your living circumstances. This speaker has the potential to be far less obtrusive to adjoined neighbours for example, provided that you dial the bass down that is. You can also move this around the house to your heart's content; I would actually consider buying another and pairing them up in stereo, the only thing stopping me is the inability to play wired audio over both speakers simultaneously - Bluetooth only I'm afraid.I went into this doubtful that a single speaker could provide me with a satisfactory listening experience — I was wrong. I have this hooked up to a turntable, to my phone via Bluetooth, to my TV even, and, despite its shortcomings, I'm more than happy with the results. Well done Zound Industries, you've done Marshall proud. Just isolate the AC better next time and get rid of that annoying hiss, allow stereo pairing over wired connections, and you'll have a perfect speaker.

Bought from Norwich store. Wanted a bluetooth speaker with decent output to link with Spotify as my existing speakers are all a bit weak. Being a technophobe I was a bit concerned about some comments regarding the bluetooth and the need to download an app, but I needn't have worried because it all worked seamlessly and I had it working on Spotify within a couple of minutes! Sound is what you'd expect from Marshall, deep bass and strong midrange with great clarity, more like listening to hifi speakers rather than digital. And it belts out plenty of it too! It's a great piece of kit, I love it!

I LOVE this speaker. The sound quality is akin to a tube amplifier – very warm-toned. I use this primarily with my record player, but the Bluetooth pairing mode is outstanding as well. Make no mistake, this speaker is LOUD. I rarely turn it up to full volume. It fills my entire 1000 sq ft home with crisp sound that carries well. The only downside is that there is no remote, and it has to be plugged into the wall at all times. However, for a stationary speaker, this is an amazing device that I recommend to all of my friends.

The name Marshall to anyone with a love of 60's and 70's rock, needs no introduction.Unfortunately I have a problem listening to music after years of aural abuse so, when it comes to sound systems I'm really picky. I've tried a number of different options, including reverting back to my vinyl collection via a 70's amp and speakers and also So**s speakers/amp set up. With no joy, just unable to get the whole bandwidth.I had originally listened to the Acton II and was very impressed with the tone, (yes, I'm an old guitarist). The Stanmore II however, has just blown me away. Loads of volume and punch, no distortion and incredible spread of tone. Very little EQ needed but the dials just work as they should. Just Like an Amp!

Excellent speaker. It has a really good "kick" to the sound you put it, despite its very compact size. It also fits nicely with the décor of a modern house, and I think it also fits the ones of older homes due to its guitar amp-like design. I got it on a discount due to the early Black Friday clearances, so I feel like I got a great deal with this one. However, its original pricing seems worth it.It might help you to know that despite Marshall being known as a "Rock" type of amps/speakers, everything sounds great. Bass is deep, trembles are also great. It does have Bluetooth (obviously), RCA, and a 3.5mm port. But that weird way to connect via the app seems to frustrate some customers. I am tech-savvy, so I did not struggle but I do see some people having headaches just to play their music library. In other words, if you are a grandparent, please have your grandkids handle the connection.Note also that it does not have a microphone built in, meaning that hands-free is not possible. You need to control the music from your mobile device connected to it.

Marshall sets the standard

If you’re looking for a well-constructed, smallish speaker with warm, balanced room-filling sound that is (somewhat) tunable, then look no further. I wanted an A/C powered bookshelf size speaker for my work environment. I was familiar with Marshall beforehand, but in all honesty I thought a Marshall-branded Bluetooth speaker was just marketing…until I heard it. I listened to various offerings from Marshall, Bose, Klipsch, Sony and JBL. In short, the Stanmore II did the best job playing the music that I listen to, which is usually a mix of pop & rock/grunge from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. The default sound profile is neutral, but can be adjusted with the in-app EQ and further tweaked with the treble & bass dials on top of the speaker. To top it off, it looks great in any room and goes with any decor. If you have the chance, I recommend listening to it in person, but you will not be disappointed. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Stanmore II, and I think it is worth every penny.

Might not be your best choice
13 August 2022

This is the first review I’ve ever left for Best Buy I bought the speaker because there was a very good sale on it…. At the end of the day I am very disappointed with it…. Of course it works but it does not get very loud…. If there is any background noise in the room you can barely hear this thing…. I also own a couple Milwaukee tool battery powered speakers they sound just as good and get way louder and they run on battery or ac power…. And they are probably half the price….. I am not sure if I would recommend the speaker there are probably a lot of cheaper options with equivalent performance

Missing Cables & NO packaging.
6 January 2023

No packaging at all… Straight up just taped the original box of the speaker and shipped. The item came super beat up. It also came missing power cables, user manual, and even a piece of cushioning that the speaker was supposed to sit on… (I know this because my friend bought the exact same speaker from Amazon and all the parts mentioned were included). Very terrible. Do yourself a favor and pick it up at the store. To be fair, Marshall speakers are good. I’m using the Acton II now. 4 stars for the speaker, 0 stars for the packaging, shipping, etc…

Ruined by Faulty Bluetooth

These speakers sound quite nice, WHEN THEY WORK. The bluetooth functionality is INFURIATING. I cannot use my mouse and this speaker at the same time ( - the speaker will go choppy randomly if any bluetooth mouse is turned on). When I pair two speakers (I have this Stanmore II and an Acton II), the secondary speaker of the pair cuts in and out constantly. It is AWFUL. I have tried switching which is the primary speaker. I have tried moving them around - close together, close to the source, to a different area. I tried them with an Android phone and a Macbook. I've tried different power outlets. I've tried unpairing and re-pairing. This is making me miserable, because you can't sink into enjoying music when you know it is going to be ripped out from under you ... MoreThese speakers sound quite nice, WHEN THEY WORK. Two Stanmore speakers paired for stereo
19 December 2021

The sound produced from one Stanmore II speaker is excellent with very good bass, mid tones and treble resulting in a really nice warm tone and overall clarity. However if you have the space (they are not that big) and can stretch your budget, I would recommend you buy two speakers and couple them via Bluetooth for stereo pairing. This takes the sound from two speakers to a whole new level in every sense and gives a much more realistic stereo sound than can be achieved with just one speaker. Perhaps Marshall could make this possible in a updated app or when they design new speakers in the future. To sum up the Stanmore II is a beautiful iconic designed Bluetooth speaker that sounds excellent, buy two of these and the sound you will get from a pair speakers this size is sublime. Thanks Cibo and Olivia (Cambridge Branch) for the excellent service, it really was a pleasure.
