The order of the combination to open this lock does not matter. So if your code is 7856 they can type in any combination of those numbers and it will open. Anyone with enough time could very easily randomly press buttons and get it opened. Have had 2 stolen off of doors before the code was ever given to anyone! Not in any way safe. Once you open the box, all you have to do is pull a lever inside to release the shackle. Do not buy this lock. Get a turning combo lock or one that requires the code to be in the order you specify it to be in.

DO NOT BUY THIS. We bought 3 to use on rental houses. We ran out of the ones we usually use, which have the combination lock on them. First one could not be opened at all. Second one could be opened, we read the directions and set the code, closed it up and it would not open. We are not stupid people, we set a simple 4 digit code we always use, and it would not open. Third one we didn't even try.We want prospective tenants to be able to open and use the key to tour the house. According to the directions, they have to open the cover, lower the clear button, put in the code, lower the open button and take out the key. To close, they have to put the key back inside, hit the clear button, put the code back in, lower the open button and hold it while closing the key ... MoreDO NOT BUY THIS. The unit I purchased was fine at first. Set the code with however many digits you choose. It was a bit cumbersome that the latch doesn't allow you to close the box the same way you can close a locked doorknob. Instead think of this like a deadbolt. You have to pit in the code to open it and then if you let go, enter the code again to shut. While annoying, it was functional. Fast forward about 9 months and it's dead now. Once you enter in the code, the device refuses to lock again. It stays permanently in the open, unlocked position. I was hoping to get a few years out of this thing, not a few months.

Seems robust and useful item. My main worry was understandingvthe instructions on how to programme the lock! They are quite clear really. Just takes a while to get familiar.
This lock is horrible! I use it for Airbnb and no one can figure out how to use it! It actually jammed and we were not able to use it. I ended up returning it to Canadian tire, still attached to the door knob, so that they could cut the metal attachment. They managed to get it open and I was told that they had the same one at the store and stopped using it because it always jammed!
We found multiple issues with the lock and warranty. The first was not being able to use the same number more than once in the code. You only find this out once the packaging is opened and the instructions inside are read. Apparently it’s for an extra layer of security but this is a non-issue if the combination is regularly changed when used for a short term rental for example. Second, the reset arm in this model is flush with the inside body of the lock and is difficult to engage. Older dial models have a tab that is easier to move when resetting the code. Third, that reset arm jammed. Fourth, you had to “clear” the locking mechanism, re-enter the code and press the top button to close the lock. It was a convoluted process for simply closing a lock. And now the return policy. We returned the lock after 3 days (it was only used once) but had bought a different version, from the same store, in the interim. In spite of the correct receipt being displayed on their monitor, the warranty showed 0 days left. We could only get an in store credit because the packaging was opened and the lock was irreparable. The reasoning behind that logic escapes us. We were disappointed with Canadian Tire’s return policy in this case. Normally they are quite good.We wound up getting one with the dials - much simpler and it works. We would not recommend the push button lock.
I drove my car nearly 50 miles round trip today to buy one of these in the store. Got it home and followed the instructions carefully to get the plastic on the back of the packet cut open to get the item operating instructions. Followed the "OPENING INSTRUCTIONS" carefully to get the silly device to open for the first time. Hit the CLEAR button and tried to push the OPEN BUTTON down but it WILL NOT EVEN BUDGE. It's jammed tight. My next door neighbor is very mechanical and it would not function correctly for him either. Now, I'm stuck having to drive all the way back to the store~~~100 miles WASTED gasoline, oil, PRECIOUS TIME and energy. I'm in the middle of packing, cleaning to get ready to move to a new apt. in 5 days. I may think five times before I drive that far to shop there in the future.
Too small internally to fit anything other than a flat house key. I bought it to use for my car key when out on the water but any sort of electronic key would not fit, internally it can only accommodate anything up to about 12mm thick.
Mechanical locks typically aren't very secure, but figuring out which keys are part of the combination, and which aren't, on this lock is quite easy. The instructions need to provide advice on picking a good length combination, considering the order doesn't matter. Being able to use the point / star keys for the combination help a lot, and the fact somebody guessing wouldn't know if 3, 4, 5, 6, etc length is used. However, the mechanics of the lock allow the selected keys to be determined readily. It's really bad.Never found the key hook that the instructions reference.
I liked the size, the color, the key pad. However, I did not like that I could not use any two numbers the same. I always use the same code with all my lock boxes, and I could not for this brand. Would not buy it again
