The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800 redefines charcoal cooking. It is no longer necessary to wait an age for your charcoal to reach the optimum temperature or struggle with maintaining a consistent temperature. A GravityFed hopper holds up to 10 hours of fuel whilst a DigitalFan moves air from the hopper to the cooking chamber and maintains the cooking temperature. The Gravity Series 800 will reach 107 degrees Celsius in just 8 minutes, 232 degrees Celsius in 10 minutes and a maximum of in 14 minutes. Turn the grill on and off, set the temperature, a timer (count down or up) and program up to four meat probes (one probe is supplied) with the digital control panel.

I was in the market for a pellet smoker for over a year. I finally came down to wanting a Yoder but I stumbled over a review for the Gravity. I’m not sure how to word this but this is the Swiss Army knife of grills. I wanted the ease of maintaining temp as a pellet grill but I also wanted the ability of being able to sear at high heat. What I love about the 800 is you can do all that but get the taste of cooking over an old school charcoal which if done right, hard to beat the flavor. Then you add the fact that it can be converted to a griddle for smash burgers and cheesesteaks!! I think the most underrated feature of the Gravity is maintenance. I have grilled/smoked/griddled everything you can think of and my wife would not let me replace this grill if I wanted to. That is saying a lot as she originally didn’t think I should buy it. If you are in the market, definitely look at all the reviews on here and check out the Facebook page for gravity. You will see a trend of all pellet users trading their pellet grill in for a Gravity. It also doesn’t hurt the $$ is where it is for all it does. I would pay double!! If I were to give any suggestion I would look into the 1050 and see how to modify that for a griddle.

I found the pellet grill laking in smoke flavor and bark. Alas I trudged on because it was almost like cheating. The gravity feed is actually easier to use and Ive got my bark back with great smoke flavor. I spend alot less on seasonings now. The griddle was just icing on the cake. It has few moving parts and can be ran on 12v. There are apps to run the smoker from your phone. If you are hooked to Bluetooth and Wifi it will work anywhere. It will go from 180 to 700 faster than you need it to. Was skeptical but now hooked. My wife and I love this thing and will use it year round.

I have similar damage as Froi had ... melted plastic on the front shelf. Warped and peeling material on the back, the inside looks charred. The lid safety switch must have melted away as it is no longer there. The hopper was about 1/2 full when I started the pre seasoning procedure. Because the thermostat was not registering the correct temperature the fan continued to blow. When I checked the hopper after the grill cooled down I found that nearly all the charcoal (briquets) had burned to ash. I used Kingsford Professional Briquets. I have no idea how hot this thing got ... other than it got really really hot. However, it probably wouldn't have got much hotter as it burned through almost all of the briquets. Nevertheless, this was not a good situation and a safety hazard. Masterbuilt needs to take note.

I was told that the display was not covered but that I could purchase a replacement panel. I chose to just use the APP as I have a good WiFi signal on my patio. There is a fair amount of rust on the heat manifold and drip tray but it is not a problem. The metal seems to be strong. I would expect at least 1-2 years out of them. The hopper doors and seals look good. All of the pressure switches are in good shape. Wiring appears to be in good shape as well. Wire insulation seems to be well done (no pun intended) and the wires have held up to long smokes and fast, high temp sears.I can say that I would recommend the grill with the caveat of making sure you have a good WiFi network available wherever your grill will reside.
I've had my 1050 for 2 years now and when this smoker finally gives up the ghost I will not buy another Masterbuilt product. I really had high expectations for this smoker and feel like Masterbuilt really fell short in a number of areas. As far as positives go, it is fairly easy to use and turns out some fantastic food. And the negatives:-Poor build quality. Grease catch tray was poorly riveted, one corner fell off and made a mess everywhere. The lower portion of the unit has leaked grease out from day 1. I'm fully expecting to be replacing parts of the smoker in the next few years as they appear to rust very easily unless they are cleaned spotless after each use.-Lacks wire securement to the control panel. I'm fully expecting to be replacing parts of the smoker in the next few years as they appear to rust very easily unless they are cleaned spotless after each use.-Lacks wire securement to the control panel. One accidental tug on the cord rendered the machine useless. I was fortunate enough that I'm capable of soldering small parts and that there was no expensive damage to the circuit board or I would have been out $100 to replace it. Luckily my reliable, 15 year old puck smoker saved the day when my Masterbuilt was dead.-Most infuriating of all - the apps. GARBAGE! The ability to control the machine remotely was a significant factor in my decision to purchase this smoker, and Masterbuilt's inability to provide customers with a reliable, functional app is beyond ridiculous. I can connect via the Classic app, but it is buggy, often disconnecting, sometimes not updating probe temperature. And at times it is just beeping frequently for no real reason. Presently, I can't adjust the temperature. I finally thought I'd give the new app a try since the Classic app suggested it to "experience the latest features for your Gravity Series Product". Despite going through the process of connecting the device 3 times and the app saying the device is connected, there's no device for me to control, it just goes back to the add a device screen. I guess the "newest features" is a totally useless app? Well done! It really says a lot that going on 2 years of Masterbuilt having dismal app reviews that they've seemingly made no effort to improve.I don't totally hate this smoker, but my opinion it is a total failure at the retail price point. It has a ton of potential, but Masterbuilt has fallen well short in delivering a fully functional, reliable, quality product.
I purchased the grill through Amazon and received it without an issue. During assembly, I realized that the lid was scratched. There was no damage to the box nor to the packing styrofoam which would indicate that the damage occurred prior to leaving the facility. (see photos attached). There was also with the grill having the wrong grease drip pan that came with the unit and would not fit properly.I looked for a customer service number and found only a way to make a claim online to which they reply with an email. There does not appear to be a way to speak with a real person to voice an issue. The response was quick but unfortunately not what I wanted to hear after spending almost a thousand dollars for a new grill/smoker. There does not appear to be a way to speak with a real person to voice an issue. The response was quick but unfortunately not what I wanted to hear after spending almost a thousand dollars for a new grill/smoker. I was informed that although the lid was scratched,"I'm sorry that you are having issues with your unit. I do show the scratches on the unit, however they will not effect the use of the unit. I can offer you a grill cover. I can also send you a Bottom Tray Assembly Kit. Please advise how you would like to proceed." (quote cut/pasted from the reply email)I replied confirming their stance on the non-replacement of the lid and thanked them for the offer of the cover and I informed them that I had already purchased a cover because maintaining the appearance of a nearly thousand dollar piece of equipment is important to mean again requested that they reconsider replacing the lid as a courtesy since it appeared to be damaged prior to shipping from the plant. Once again I was disappointed with the response, "Thanks for the feedback. I can ship the Bottom Tray for you. Unfortunately the scratches will not affect the use of your unit. Please advise how you would like to proceed." (quote again cut/pasted from the reply email)As stated in the title. the unit appears to be very well built and very well designed but I would like to keep it that was for as long as possible and with some pretty significant scratches on the lid, even keeping covered when not in use, eventually corrosion will occur in the area causing the unit to deteriorate. The cover is available for purchase on the website for $169 and I'm sure the cost to produce is well below that figure. I don't believe my request to have the one that showed up damaged replaced is unreasonable to help my investment looking nice as well as performing good. After researching the product and buying what appeared the best I could get for the investment, I must say I'm disappointed with the lack of effort to stand behind the product that they produce. While I am thankful for the replacement of the incorrect grease tray and the offer of the cover, they fell far short of my expectations of good customer service.
I bought this grill/smoker for memorial day weekend ‘22. Did a little bit of research and, even after seeing some less than good reviews, decided to go with it for it’s features and contemporary design. I really wanted to love it, since it is my first charcoal grill in years. First two times of use and it worked flawlessly - the controlled temp on this charcoal/wood grill is what really cemented my love for it. But for my third grill session, I noticed the digital display was malfunctioning. The display was barely visible, but I attributed it to the glare since it was a sunny day. The module still worked fine via the app on my phone.Use #4 - I noticed the fan was working intermittently without reaching my desired temp. Digital display was completely out this time.Today I’m using it again to smoke a rack of ribs - 5th use of the grill. The display is still out, but the fan seem to work as it should this time around.Full disclosure - I clean the grates after every use with common grill tools and use the Masterbuilder cover since day 1. It’s stored under a gazebo where the FL rain can’t reach it. I also exclusively use hardwood lump charcoal.I would still recommend it and will give the warranty a chance, maybe I just got a bad unit. I still think it is an amazing grill and I’m planning to keep it for a long time provided that my issue is fixed (until I upgrade for the bigger version)
I have been a Weber charcoal guy my ENTIRE life. Last 6 months I researched every grill and price was not a factor I was concerned with simply due to the fact that I have never had an expensive grill, so this was a little present to myself. Almost bit the bullet on a Recteq pellet, then all of the sudden Masterbuilt shows up in my searches. I research everything before I buy and I mean everything, but what impressed me the most was the BAD reviews. Even though they were low rated reviews, people just loved the concept. So I purchased the Gravity 800, took my time (instruction called for 2 hrs but took me 3). Everything went together as explained. Completed the proper seasoning of the grill. As for the price point, excellent job Masterbuilt! I have bragged so much to my co-workers that I think I have sold you a dozen more!
I ordered one which was on sale at Walmart. I got lost in transit but finally showed up. The digital controller piece was dented and couldn't be mounted. I contacted Masterbuilt and they sent a replacement part.It was not easy to put together. Pats of the instructions were unclear and a step was left out of the manual. The step and its parts were in a separate package.Had trouble with it at first. My theory is that the fan fired up when the temperature dropped but then the temperature would get way to hot for smoking. The app is iffy. I often have to reconnect it while I'm smoking. The app could use an update. Finally it "settled down" and worked properly. The last time I smoke at 225 degrees, the temperature varied between 222 and 228. Pretty accurate.I've used it for grilling and it performed well from the starter that task. They recommend using lump charcoal which seems to work the best for smoking. Perhaps my high temperatures were a result of using briquettes which burn hotter and quicker than lump charcoal. At the this point it works great (although it can be hard to start even using the Masterbuilt fire starters). It was a long journey, but I'm glad I got it and smoking is way easier than the cheap Dyna Grill smoker I bought used.
After much research and analysis I came to the conclusion that this is a great idea. It is, it really is. Got it in 2020. And the concept is great. Unfortunately you have a company like MasterBuilt that uses sub par materials and components that are super cheap and break or fail pretty quickly. When I first got my 560 it was great. I modified the firebox by sticking thicker steel on the inside walls because this was a problem that the YouTubers were complaining about, customized the coal grate to hold the coals better and optimize them(another YouTubers problem). It was working like a champ. Fast forward to about 8 months ago and I got screwed because the fan just stopped working in the middle of a cook and ruined my butts that I had going. So 18ish lbs of meat ruined once. Since then it has decided to not work or work depending on how it feels that day. Pure waste of time and money. Customer service has been a joke. I just want to cook food and enjoy it, not loose sleep wondering if the fan is gonna stop or go crazy and catch the whole thing on fire which has also happened. I feel cheated and used. Got me for $500 but I will never purchase another product from you. Buyer beware get a different brand. I received this as a gift for Father’s Day and let me tell you, my wife is more mad than I am because we aren’t rich and $500 is a chunk of change for us. I cannot stress enough that this is a great concept, especially if they used quality materials. But MasterBuilt missed the mark on this one and I’m out a grill/smoker and $500. So thanks MasterBuilt!!
