Excellent Charcoal!

I got this charcoal a month ago to try out and I am very impressed. The lump charcoal was very consistent in being a medium size. The chunks were not too big nor too small, but just the right size to get a good even burn. I ran these in my Masterbuilt Gravity Series smoker and they burned very evenly, had a clean smoke with a pleasant smell, and burned almost completely to ash. I've used many different brands of charcoal and this stuff ranks right up there with the best of them.

Just got off the grill. These are the tried and true. Sure Expert grill has the competition from branded briquettes too but it works just as well. I go back and forth with briquettes and lump hardwood, but for a controlled burn hard to beat briquettes and Expert grill might is the best will never let you downThis review was collected as part of a promotion, and the opinions are my own.

Good consistent size for the gravity series

I received 2 bags and used one in my Gravity 1050 and so far 1 firebox full from the second bag in my Kamado Joe grill.A full bag fits perfectly to fill up the gravity series hopper.I did low and slow pulled pork in the gravity and roasted a chicken at 400° on the Kamado. The lump lights fast and burns great. The lump sizes are consistent. Not too big and not too small. They are perfect for the gravity series grills.

Great Product/Great value.
30 May 2022

This is a great lump charcoal and a good value. As good as more expensive brands and easier to get (at Walmart). Way better than Royal Oak! I use it in both of my Masterbuilt Gravity smoker/grills and get great results. I’m sure it would work well in other grills if you use a charcoal chimney or fire starter cubes. Never use lighter fluid! That stuff is bad for you!

Great inventive to buy from Masterbuilt
7 July 2021

I received your lump charcoal as a part of my purchase of my gravity smoker. Prior to that, I was unfamiliar. It worked out great while getting used to the smoker and seasoning it. I think the only slight drawback was the a lot of the pieces were very large which made it hard to initially catch on fire. But it burns clean and for a good amount of time. Looking to buy some in the future.

Its really Five Stars with a caveat
22 February 2023

Starting off with the positives, this charcoal burned well, clean, with little dust. It provided great, consistent heat while smoking ribs and lit fairly quickly (like most lump). The only negative for me was around the lighting; this stuff sparked heavily. It's marketed as for use in a gravity smoker, so sparking inside the hopper might not be an issue. I own a kettle-style grill though, so I have to light in a starter chimney...and then keep my distance. Interestingly, when smoking I didn't hear much popping. It's not one I'd use again, but that's mainly due to the method I use often to light my charcoal. And remember, friends don't let friends use lighter fluid :-)

Surprising a good lump charcoal
14 February 2023

I tried this because of the price and Walmart didn’t have a lot to choose from during winter. I have bought several bags now. I use primarily with my Kamado Big Joe. It has been a great charcoal. Some nice sized pieces in each bag and very little small. Lights up reasonably but seems dense so lights slower but burns longer in my opinion. Smoke was pleasant and seems a bit milder than royal oak. Much better quality than royal oak at the same price point. I keep going back so I give it 5 stars.

The best of the best
20 July 2023

I have tried every brand over the years for fun but this brand is the best. Every bag I've gotten from Walmart and Amazon are mostly medium sized that are hard, dense and heavy. There are some few big pieces too. 1 chimney lights fast and lasts 8 hours. I will always use this charcoal

Weird charcoal
18 December 2021

Weird charcoal! After finally getting it lit it sparks like it’s full of metal dust. Smells horrible too. I’ve never experienced any thing like this. This is some nasty charcoal! Lighting it is a chore and once it gets going it’s dangerous!

absolutely a fire hazard no pun intended, this pops everywhere and caught my ground on fire, extremely scary extremely deadly. I've always used lump instead of shaped briquettes, they were out of the red bag brand i always buy so purchased this. Huge mistake i was popped all on my arms chest everywhere it popped and land huge chunks on the ground cause my grass and leaves to catch fire. it sizzles, crakles and pops like an open roaring fire [sounds]. but when i say pops it explodes and shots off hot embers everywhere. i have burn marks on my chest and arms. i have a full bag and im terrified to do anything with it. also it has almost whole logs in the bag.l no small pieces. maybe this is good for something but not grilling which is its intended purpose. if i had ... Moreabsolutely a fire hazard no pun intended, this pops everywhere and caught my ground on fire, extremely scary extremely deadly.
