This thing is a POS. Used it for the first time and it is already broken. There is a bind in the sleeve portion that separates the motor unit and the insert for the rotisserie rack that makes the motor seize and then turn the opposite direction. Then seize again and reverse once more. It rocks, not spins. Uneven heating results. Also, the motor is extremely small, especially considering that 10+ pounds on the rack is not unrealistic for a Gravity 800.Masterbuilt needs to ditch the Chinese wannabe unit and get real. Better yet, can we get some aftermarket folks who are serious about making a rotisserie?

To use the Rotisserie you need to add a mounting bracket which supports the end of the spit rod. One of the three screws went in about half way and would not go in any further or unscrew/come back out. The screw was not cross threaded but instead the rivet nut in the grill was defective. To fix I had to apply pressure while unscrewing until the rivet nut and screw pulled out. Then drilled a larger hole to clean up the surface and installed a larger rivet nut (purchased a tool). My family bought me the Gravity Series 560 for Father’s Day along with this rotisserie. A month late, I just finally pulled it out of the box, installed it to cook a couple chickens, and like many here have said it would not make a full rotation. I assumed maybe the load was unbalanced so I adjusted the chickens and when I tried to turn it back on it would not turn at all. To recap, within five minutes of being used for the FIRST TIME EVER, this rotisserie is dead...I see there are many similar comments so it is clear that the manufacturer is aware of the issue but continues to sell the equipment. As I stated in the title, do not buy this, you will be very disappointed.

Finally, good temperature control. I have owned top-of-the-line pellet grills. After a while, igniter burns out and needs to be replaced which is a real struggle. Having the ability to have charcoal flavor and smoking at a low temperature for cold smoking for cheeses and fish is something I’ve never been able to do previously. I have the Masterbuilt 560 which was the original design and has plenty of room for my cooking needs. The electronics and Bluetooth capability are stellar. Don’t forget to order their fire starters as they fit nicely into the slot. Ace Hardware has a bundle deal going now that will include a cover and other accessories. They will also assemble and deliver at no charge.I am confident you will be very happy with your purchase.
I bought the rotisserie in hopes of cooking the Thanksgiving turkey on it. I did a couple chickens to fine tune my technique and here are my thoughts. I have the 800 and the first thing I noticed is that the middle shelf does not fit back in the grill with the bracket for the right side of the rotisserie. That means you have to fully assemble the thing each time you want to use it, or leave the middle shelf out. You can shove it in there backwards but it is something that was obviously overlooked when designing the hardware. Second thing. It's only rated to 20lbs which I think is generous. I had an 18lb turkey and no matter how centered I had the weight it would not spin it. I tried for an hour. Ended up spatchcocking the bird. Terrible product. I have purchased two and neither of them work and you cannot get a hold of Masterbuilt to file a warranty claim. If you call the phone number, it refers you to the Internet to file a claim. When you file a claim you get an error once you fill it all out. It’s very convenient to sell a product and not and not warranty a product. This product sucks, it stops spinning after about two hours on the first use, for both of my purchases. Masterbuilt please contact me because I cannot contact you!
Tried a small whole chicken to test the rotisserie out. Would not turn completely around. Rechecked to make sure the chicken was balanced and tried again. Still be no luck. Finally after seeing the “defective rotisserie “ video, I got the chicken to turn completely around. Then Thanksgiving came and could not get the rotisserie to turn the turkey completely around. Very disappointed in this purchase. Save your money and spatchcock your birds instead.
I have had this component for a while and had no need. Family asked for me to do rotisserie chicken on the Masterbuilt 800. Everything installed fine. Slight issue with the second rack when not using the unit. Today I went to do a dry run with a single 5lb chicken. About 15 minutes into the cook the until stopped spinning. The motor felt really warm so I turned it off for a bit and turned it back on. Still no luck. I can hear the motor trying to work, but rotation would not start again. Unless something has change since late last year I would stay away from this product as it appears many folks have the same issue.
I got the kit specifically to use on Thanksgiving. I hooked the kit up and tried it out. It seemed to be working fine. I then prepped the 8.5 pound turkey, made sure it was balanced on the bar, and turned on the motor. That's where things went wrong. 8.5 pounds was apparently well above the motor's capacity. It would turn the turkey 1/4 turn and then fail. It would try the opposite direction and fail again. After trying various methods to get it to turn, I finally gave up, put the turkey in a pan, and smoked it without the rotisserie kit. I'll try the kit with other meats and birds, but I was super disappointed about it's inability to turn an 8.5 pound turkey. Weak.
My wife got this for me as we love Rotisserie Chicken. It assembles quickly, however it has a Factory Default. The adaptor (#3 in the instructions) expands with the Neck Flange (#4) causing it to seize up. This makes for some very one-sided chicken. It is easy to fix if you have a Dremel Tool or something similar. You will have to grind the shaft of the adaptor and inside the Neck Flange and a little bit of the face of the adaptor where the Spit Rod goes in. I also, just for an added bonus, put a little Crisco on the the two to act as a lubricant which seems to work quite well. And yes I tried that first before grinding. Over all I really like the kit and feel that it's a worthwhile investment. Just wish they would fix that part and I could give them 5 stars.
