Binchotan charcoal is made by pyrolising wood in a kiln for extended periods, once carbonised, the material is taken out and covered is a damp mixture of earth, sand and ash. After this process the end product becomes much harder and denser than ordinary lump charcoal taking on the characteristic white look and has a metallic sound when struck together. The purity of Binchotan Charcoal makes it virtually smokeless. Due to the lack of uncarbonized volatile matter in Binchotan Charcoal it will take a few minutes longer to ignite. This is a sign of its purity and high fixed carbon content.

Dangerous product, it often explodes flinging red hot shrapnel all over the place. Do not buy, avoid this shonky product.

Product crackles and explodes, fills smoker with ash which then goes all over the food leaving the food covered in ash and coal.

Works well as you would expect. I see some reviews on here do t know how to use to optimise results. Binchotan will take on moisture easily and must be kept bine dry or it will pop. Warm up on low heat for 10 mins if you have left open to moisture

This Vietnamese made binchotan style coal is a great alternative to the very expensive Japanese binchotan. Works beautifully in a konro at 1/4 of the price of Japanese coal. Don’t try to heat it too quickly or it will spilt. You can use the matador electric charcoal starter to get going easily.
Absolutely bad stuff. Not working at all. Bunnings should never sell things like that.
Disappointed. Bought for my new Hibachi grill. Struggled to light it. Started with (natural) firefighters in a chimney, then with lighters directly in the grill. Eventually charcoal whitened but little glow. After a serious number of firefighters and half cooked food I resorted to my gas grill. How can Buunings sell such a poor product? Would not buy again.
Great value for Binchotan. I see some reviews about hard to light. It’s over 90% fixed carbon and little organic material eg uncarbonised wood so you have to use more fire lighters that lower carbon products. Burns low smoke and hot AF. Due to its purity it will take on moisture easily that why its used in water filters. But if you you don’t keep it in a dry airy space it will take on moisture and pop and spark for a while when lit. It settle down. It a premium well priced item. We cook inside with it on the Hibatchi si is the low smoke.
They come in very large pieces, had to break them up to fit in to the bbq starter, they take too long to heat up, when it finally did it constantly exploded and made a mess every where. They did not hold a solid heat so I ended up using some old Briquettes instead which worked a lot faster and burned a lot longer.
Superior smokeless charcoal, great for covered outdoor dining areas and table use.
Great for hibachi grills for korean bbq or yakitori skewers.Same characteristics to the real thing.Takes a while to light, no flames and lots of smokes when fat drips onto the coals. Not as hot though and i suggest to wait for it to fully light otherwise it struggles to stay hot.Lasted the whole cook around 2 hoursI definitely be bulk storing these before bunnings runs out or up the price
