I used this backpack as my daypack for hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc. First - this 10-day hike was amazing and this pack was more than sufficient size for the trip - even for the nights when my duffle wasn't delivered because of staying at a mountain refuge and I needed to pack my overnight stuff. My only complaint (because I loved its size, packability, etc.) was it was not waterproof. Fortunately, there was only 1 day where it rained nonstop - and I had my valuables in a ziploc bag - but everything else in the bag got wet. And yes - opening was zipped and folded.I will continue to use it - but know now to get a rain cover or put a poncho over it. Besides that one issue - I loved using it - definitely TMB approved!

Took this bag up with me to Blueridge Georgia. Extremely packable. I didn't have any issues adding this to my travel kit (Osprey Farpoint 40). Very comfortable on all of the various day hikes I took (Amicalola Falls, Raven Cliff Falls, and High Shoals Falls). On a couple of trails, the pack took a couple of scrapes when I was going under some downed trees and it took all like a champ. No damage! I'm sure now this thing can take a beating!Overall, I highly recommend this pack!

I really like a lot of things about this backpack. I haven't tested it in the rain yet, but it's been to the grocery store and the straps mean you can pack it pretty full and reasonably heavy and they don't dig in. I've been searching for a small travel backpack for a while, and this fits the bill (light, water resistant, wide shoulder straps, sternum strap). That said, the stuff sack is a joke. I followed the instructions, and at best it halfway fits into the oval shaped net bag. The stuff bag is a weird shape (long flat oval) that doesn't allow you to stuff it in, unlike the more standard long cylinder type stuff sack with a narrow opening. That might work in the same size, but this oval thing that relies on some sort of superpower to roll the backpack up small ... MoreI really like a lot of things about this backpack. I took it as my primary backpack for an ultralight 3 day motorcycle ride from Pattaya to Phuket, Thailand & used it for 3 weeks to carry a snorkel & mask, clothes, shower bag & a pair of Tevas clipped to the outside.Rode through some downpours & it performed flawlessly.Never got drop of water inside. The roll top closure works very well, the length on the shoulder straps was just long enough for my taller 6'3" frame without excessive extra strap flopping around. The top load stabilizer straps on the shoulder straps work well as do the chest strap between the shoulder straps with vertical adjustability for comfort to fitvarious different chest sizes. The well built straps are secured with excellent adjusters that didn't come loose even when wet. I was particularly impressed with the length of the straps for my size, not too long, so keep this in mind if you have an XL or Tall size or larger frame/body.You may have the straps extended to their maximum length but, the sewn ends of the strap will not easily pass through the adjusters which is a good thing.I couldn't recommend this pack more for ultralight waterproofness combined with well made materials, design & build.Everything about this pack exceeded my expectations.

Purchased this bag to take on a trip to the California coast…. I needed something packable so it didn’t take up room in my carry on but had plenty of room for a day hike. The Freerain22 was the perfect fit. When not in use it takes up minimal space but expands to hold enough gear and consumables for a extensive day hike. Two side pockets held a smart water bottle and a 160z Grayl purifier, the outer pocket provided easy access and the main compartment provided plenty of room for everything else. The fabric is soft and seems delicate but I noticed no wear or tears from the rough rock scrapes and scrambles. Beach side or riverside… no problem…. It’s waterproof so nothing got wet.. didn’t worry about the camera gear or dry layers at all…. I used the chest strap but not ... MorePurchased this bag to take on a trip to the California coast…. Since I flew I didn’t take trekking poles but it has attachments for those as well….

This bag is great. It packs down super small and takes no space. However, the mesh bag they give with it is pretty useless in my opinion. I just pack the bag flat inside my main travel bag, kind of like a liner. My only complaint is that the bag is not waterproof. Water resistant, yes but far from waterproof. If you leave your bag outside (or travel with bag exposed) and it rains, water will sit on the bag and seep through. Everything in my bag was soaked except the few items that were inside a dry bag. If I was running through the rain and water wasn't actually sitting on the bag, it probably would have been fine. I've done about a five-minute run through pouring down rain and everything was dry. So just be warned, do not let water sit on bag and do not let bag sit ... MoreThis bag is great. It packs down super small and takes no space. I really like having a packable bag that can handle all weather conditions and this doesn’t disappoint there. The construction feels solid and the materials are quality. I just wish they could use a little more comfortable feeling material in the straps. I’m confident they used what they did because it’s the best balance, but hopefully something a little nicer is developed for future versions. With this current material though, I do think they could have made the straps contour a bit.A few wish list items for this would be- A small pocket towards the top of the quick stash exterior pocket (inside) to keep items spaced out a little, as it is everything you put in there just drops straight to the bottom.- Make the trekking pole attachments easily removable. The way they are I had to cut off the top ones. These could be redone, but the bottom BIG loops are stitched in and the only thing to do is let them flop or cut them off permanently losing the option to attach anything there. I think they could easily have had some low-profile loops sewn on the bag and given a couple of larger strap loops to be simply attached by looping through them.- The ability to stow within the exterior pocket as they did with the Freerain Hip Pack would be great. The mesh pouch isn’t something I like much at all.I hope they take some of what they have here and make a weatherproof version of the On-Grid, as this would definitely be more suited to my use needs.

I have not fully tested this pack as I have only used it a couple times but I am very pleased with it so far. I like that it is waterproof and really like the pockets on the outside --- giving me various places to put items as opposed to having everything in the main compartment. I had probably a little under 10 lbs in the pack and liked the way it fit on my shoulders. I am 5' 3" and just cinched in the sternum strap a little to pull the shoulder straps in and they fit just fine with that adjustment. I think this is a great pack for the price and the fact that it is designed as a travel pack --- something that I can just through in a suitcase and pull out later. It is more substantial than the two other travel packs I have. Outstanding daily runabout bag

I bought this bag for use in day hikes and urban exploration while traveling, and it excels at both. Very comfortable even when fully loaded (though a 22L load isn’t very heavy). Although the straps are thin they are wide and allow tons of air through them, so really no sweating and plenty of comfort. It was the ideal daypack on a recent trip ti Spain—waterproofing was great at the beach, light weight and the airy straps were great on some mountainous hikes, and the unobtrusive styling was fine in the city. And it neatly packs up to the size of a softball in my luggage. One of the best travel purchases I’ve made.
