So, my daughters elementary school is having the whole school read this book. She is in Kindegarten and I must say that this book is highly inappropriate for young children with all the negativity and horrible situations that this little girl incounters. The kids and I also find this book extremely boring - it was sooo bad, we stopped at the first chapter. Do not recommend!!!

This books makes me so happy. I’ve read it several times and it’s become very nostalgic for me. From a teacher standpoint, this is a great book to use with students because it encourages reading so much and there are lots of activities that can be done with it. I couldn’t stop reading it once I started and think everyone would benefit from reading it. Highly recommend.

This book was heartily recommended to me by a nine-year-old and her mum, so I looked forward to reading it. However, I found the main character, Matilda, to be an unsympathetic and unpleasant character. I found her sly, deceptive, mean and lacking emotion. Her tricks on the adults around her were mean-spirited and generally only enacted for revenge. The adults were not taught a lesson. They were just tormented for her private satisfaction. The one nice adult was a weak doormat. At the end of the book - spoiler alert - when her family leaves for places unknown, Matilda's brother waves good-bye. There is no mention or illustration of Matilda waving back or caring one jot. She seems to have viewed permanent separation from her family with utter equanimity. Roald Dahl's formula for mixing the normal with the unexpected appeals to me. It inspires the imagination. Not for children who are taught to believe everything that they read - it is fiction! Super illustrations by Quentin Blake.
I have loved this book since I was eleven years old. My daughter just recently got cast as Matilda in the musical. I decided to give this to her as a congratulations gift. I hope she loves it as much as I do!
My young Grandaughter loves this book. Having seen the stage production she was delighted when I gave her the book. Read it straight away and said she was going to read it again. What price can you put on something that gives a little girl such pleasure. Thank you.
This is my favorite of all the Roald Dahl books. Maybe it was because I was left in the same predicament as a child as Matilda, basically having to raise myself. Or maybe it was because I love books and escape in them the way she does. Or maybe it's because she finds someone who has her best interest at heart. Or maybe it's all these reasons, plus the obvious reason, seeing an underdog triumph over adversity.
Xmas gift for my 9yr old granddaughter who really loves a good read. I'm sure she won't be disappointed. Book is very enticing, very colourful front page. Arrived in no time. Very happy
I dislike the fact that it isn’t the yellow book I ordered. That’s why I ordered these copies.
I genuinely really loved this book to the point where I can’t stop re-reading it. The book is basically all about this girl named Matilda who is the most spectacular child you can come across in you entire life. Sadly, this prodigy of a child is not recognized by her very obnoxious parents. They actually do not encourage her to read books, instead they want her to waste her time watching TV. There are many things I love about this book, now I don’t know about you but I find the character Matilda very inspiring even though she is fictional. But there is something that maybe some people may not enjoy which is the fact that the book takes a long time to read. In my opinion anyone over the age of nine can read this book. This has been and always will be one of the top 5 ... MoreI genuinely really loved this book to the point where I can’t stop re-reading it.
