Beautiful sunglasses

I love these sunglasses and the rose lenses are very comforting. The frame is super light and the nose and behind the ears pieces are great for keeping them in place. My only negative comment is that the bottom of the lenses leaves an indentation in my upper cheek no matter how lightly I set them on my nose. I am very careful not to push them too far back on my nose. Can anything be down about that?

Best sunglasses I've ever owned. Period. I have several from MJ and Costa that are all nice but this one from MJ in the blue is not only the lightest on my face but looks the nicest (I think), wraps around perfectly for driving with no blocked spots, and is the clearest sunglass lens that I've ever looked through. I'd get another pair but the sale price went up so I'll wait a bit. Shipping and packaging were both perfect, too. A+ all the way.

I have needed multifocal sunglasses for over 10 years. This week while visiting a local optometrist I mentioned that I usually just wear normal sunglasses and carry my prescription glasses with me. They showed me the Ho'okipa in reader sunglasses. They are absolutely brilliant. From the first drive home then spending 7 hours on my boat fishing. In bright sun look into 7meters of water and seeing everything. Then being able to read phone and tie knots without changing glasses was so great. Can't recommend the reader sunglasses enough.

Don't mind the begrudgers, best sunglasses ever for daily use!!

Within reason, these shades are indestructible. When I bought them first I was sceptical that they would last a week before the hinge broke or something, I have had mine for 12 years now and they have gone through "dogs abuse" and they are as good as the day I bought them. For an extremely light and comfortable and what looks like a fragile product they are so very robust. Yea if you are jumping over a cliff or some other extreme sport then these particular ones are not for you. But for style durability and service these are second to none. Only criticism for MJ is that they made them too good! They cant be dooing good business when their glaces dont break eventully :-)Matthew from Ireland

Excellent sports and/or adventure sunglasses

I have bought the Hawaii Blue lenses. Interestingly, it has a neutral grey base, with a blue mirror applied. Knowing that, you'd think the world (through the lenses) would look neutral with a tinge of blue, but it actually results in a bronze view (similar to the HCL Bronze), but uniquely different. These are light-weight, but do not let that fool you in regards to impact resistance. Very happy with the pair I bought. I have a medium-sized face and fits me well. Other glasses that works well for me: Kanaio Coast, Castles, Black Coral, Kahuna (not that I own all of these, but have tried it on at my optometrist). I would really suggest to try anything on first at your optometrist, or a Maui Jim retailer - I have done the online shopping thing a few times and burnt my ... MoreI have bought the Hawaii Blue lenses. I do own the Kahunas and to me they feel similar to the Ho'okipa, just a bit heavier and tighter. Hope this review helps you make a great choice.

Great Glasses for any occasion
6 December 2021

I am impressed with my new choice of glasses as i have been wearing Kanahas for many years and the Blue lenses were discontinued so i bought a pair of Ho'okipa glasses with the blue lenses. I love how the lenses wrap a little further around to help block side sun and the added height of the lenses for coverage as well. the only issue i have compared to the Kahana is the ability for me to raise them up on forehead and them stay, the Ho'okipa will slide down and not stay in place as well as my others but i will get past that once i get a cord for them. I do believe all of my Maui Jim Glasses are awesome Yes i have 6 pair 1 Ho'Okipa 2 Kanaha 1 whaler and other 2 don't remember style name. Great glasses overall- 2 Thumbs up !!

Great Lightweight Sunglasses
19 May 2021

First off, I have had these for about 3 years now to replace a different manufacturers glasses that I did not like. I should have stuck with Maui Jim's as I still have my first pair from about 2006. These are a different type of sunglasses than my previous ones as these do not block side light, then again most sunglasses do not and can not due to the style or fit. But I love how light they are and I sometimes forget I am wearing them. I won't compare these to my more recent pair, The Bird, as the lenses on the Ho'okipa are MauiPure (in a Blue Hawaii colour) and The Bird's are Super Thin Glass (in MauiGreen colour). For those who gave low ratings for flimsy or breakable frames I am not sure if they were doing something weird with them or if Maui Jim changed the ... MoreFirst off, I have had these for about 3 years now to replace a different manufacturers glasses that I did not like. However, I generally have kept mine in my pants pocket in a soft cleaning bag for the last few years without any issues on the frame or lenses. They still look as clear as when new and the blue colour is great, these are not mirror shades so do not expect your eyes to be totally hidden from others. The only "issue" I have had with these is that due to the curved style they do not fit in the sunglass holders in my cars.I liked my sets of Maui Jim's so much I also got regular glasses with clip-on sunglasses from Maui Jim as well. Those are really great too, I just wish there was more of a selection in the frames for the clip-on styles.

Great! Absolutely the best sunglasses!
1 December 2022

Absolutely the best sunglasses! I have 4 pairs and am going to purchase a pair prescription sunglass for those days I don't feel like wearing lens or have to deal with my transitions (that are never dark enough when driving in AZ). Love every pair and replace the lens for scratches as needed. However, the new cases are terrible and Maui Jim should be aware of this ;-)

Maui HT lenses
20 February 2022

I’ve only had my Maui Jim sunglasses for a week, but so far they are great. I got the Maui HT light green high contrast lenses. They preform as advertised- really good in low light and more than adequate in bright light. I bought these mainly for driving, but also for golf. For driving, they are great. I’ve used them on cloudy days and bright days and they were great. With my previous inexpensive glasses, I had to take them off to view my phone in the car. The Maui HT lenses did well looking out a sunny window then looking down in a dark car. It 20°, so I can’t test them on the golf course, but walking around outside, I think they will be perfect. I’ve been buying $40-60 glasses, but don’t regret stepping up in class with Maui Jim’s.

So disappointed

I have spent 30 years piloting tour boats, tug boats, and High speed ferries on San Francisco Bay with passenger capacities exceeding 600 people, so I have always bought high quality EyeCare no matter the cost. I have been disabled for several years due to a back injury but my love and belief that quality EyeCare is a must did not diminish. Since I wasn’t working I had to save for 3 years to be able to afford the sunglasses of my dream (I moved to Maui 3 years ago and when I finally could get Rx Maui Jim’s I was on cloud nine. I had my favorite pair picked out but the Aloha eye care didn’t carry it. However I was told to “try on and order pairs in stock, after all, I had 60 days to make exchanges. So I bought a pair of Byron Bay which I loved, but they kept fogging up. So when I went back and asked for the Barrier reef. They don’t carry it so I got the Ho’okipa. They were awful, as in way of small around my eyes with light bleeding in everywhere. But, the worst part is that the bridge crosses my eyelin and I’m going to cross eyed if I use them. I took them back immediately and they said sorry, only one exchange. I begged for my first pair back but no. Apparently they are already destroyed. So, what was supposed to be one of the most joyous days of my life, has become one of the worst. I can’t tell you how sad I am.To be fair and honest, the glasses are probably the best Rx sunglasses made, and they did give me one trade in which most companies don’t. But, if I hadn’t been led to believe I had 60 days of returns to find the right pair....I would have found someone who sold the barrier reef or driven from Kihei to La’Haina to get the right pair. Also, why destroy the 1st pair so quick ( they would have worked great with antifog). The other thing that bothers me is that the 1st pair came with a quality case and the best bag/cleaning cloth I ever saw, super fluffy. But, the 2nd pair came with a cheap fold flat case and a tiny almost embarrassing cleaning cloth. I expected quality all around since the cost was over $700.I wish this was my joyous post ever, instead it’s the first negative post I have ever written, I’m just so bummed
