I have used these as my daily glasses for the past five years. Hand down, these are the best glasses I have ever owned. I have the blue lenses and they are still in pristine condition after all this time. Very durable lenses. The frames are very comfortable and great for watersports or other outdoor activities since they are super light but also stay on your face. I dropped them so many times and only once did it cause a small scratch. The frames are getting worn and the nosepiece needs to be replaced (to be expected after so much use), so I just bought a pair of Pokowai Arch with the same blue lenses to replace them. I will probably get the nosepiece replaced and keep these as a backup pair because I still love to wear them.

Was looking for dedicated cycling sunglasses that did not have a base curve 8 or greater. Now a days, most cycling sunglasses look like goggles and like said I wanted these glasses specifically for cycling. Needed to have no-metal frames, light, and provide full coverage and a base curve of no more than 6.If you have an astigmatism most of the time base curve 6 frames can accommodate a prescription with a lower possibility of peripheral distortionOnce my local optometrist placed my order for these glasses, I figured it would be at least a month before I'd see them but, 8 days later my Maui Jim Red Sands with blue mirrored lens arrived, flawless, prescription spot on. unbelievable clarity. very impressive how'd they do that. One more reason went with a Bona fide ... MoreWas looking for dedicated cycling sunglasses that did not have a base curve 8 or greater. Hopefully won't need warranty fingers crossed.Fit is perfect I have a 22.5cm head circumference, they are large but that's the way they are suppose to be. Color is warm and crisp great when out on the asphalt. the rubber nose pieces and temple inserts are very nice no slip, even when sweaty. The black and grey tortoise frames are nice super light wish I could have found the traditional brown tortoise but apparently they aren't available now.The MauiBrilliant blue, is first class all the way, even tough I purchased strictly for cycling these glasses can be used for any condition or event. Great glasses, happy I found them. Are they worth the price hard to say, all I know they have definitely impressed me.

I have been searching for right sunglasses, having broke my nose the bridge has to be right and I have light sensitive eyes. I guess to keep cost do the frames and especially the sides are cheap plastic. The lenses look blue from the outside but looking out the are more reddish. While driving the clouds looked purple. If a purplish look does not other you and you only have $230.00 these are great glasses. I want better and because of light sensitivity I need gray lenses but I am going to try to stick with Maui Jim.

These are my first pair of MJ's, and I was really excited about purchasing them. I really like the Red Sands style. They are fashionable for wearing out and about. Mine are in the black/grey tortoise frame with HCL lenses. They're stylish and super light weight. After 2 years, the lenses have been very durable for me. I even accidentally washed them with a load of laundry, and they somehow didn't get a scratch on them. My disappointment has been with the clarity of the lenses. They are no where near what I was expecting for the price I paid especially on extremely sunny days or out on the beach. They are really no better, (and could probably argue worse) than my $30 wrap arounds I bought in a convenience store. My disappointment has been with the clarity of the lenses. They are no where near what I was expecting for the price I paid especially on extremely sunny days or out on the beach. They are really no better, (and could probably argue worse) than my $30 wrap arounds I bought in a convenience store. In addition, I have a terrible time trying to keep the inside of the lenses clean and smudge-free. I have tried adjusting the nose pieces to ensure the lenses don't make contact with my face and pick up any sweat, oil, or sunscreen but to no avail. When I attempt to clean them with the cleaning cloth, it only seems to smear any smudge marks around the lenses. Again, not a problem with my cheap wrap arounds. I'm not completely disavowing MJ's, but I was definitely expecting more in terms of lense quality. I might consider a wrap around style with a different lense in the future if I feel like giving MJ another try.
Have had my new Red Sands for a week now and I really like them. I've worn Ho'okipas for years and these are just like them only more stylish. Like the Ho'okipas the frames are ultra-light, flexible grilamid material (don't confuse them with being cheap). Both are made in Japan quality. Nose pads are grippy but comfortable. Comfortable to wear for hours at a time. I have the blue lenses which have a subtle rose hue, adding a bit of contrast. After a few seconds your brain stops seeing the rose and everything looks neutral again. The blue isn't as dark as the neutral gray but more neutral than HCL bronze, it's a great lens. These sunglasses might be perfect mix of sporty and casual.
Great glasses and great after sales service. I've had these glasses for over 5 years after buying them whilst in Hawaii on a holiday. I broke the arm on them a few months ago and my local sunglass sales shop returned them to you guys and the arm was replaced for free. I've also had the lenses replace for a very fair price. The Red Sands model fits me perfectly (I have a big head) and they are super comfortable. I have the tortoise shell frames. Sad to hear that they don't make these frames anymore.
Bought these as my first pairs of MJ in canada. Yes it feels a bit flimsy but it makes up for that in weight savings. The lens is super clear and comfortable compared to any other "luxury" brand sunglasses. The lens do scratch easily but I'm super careful with them so not too much of an issue personally. I did drop it on the asphalt once and had my backpack land on it so had to pay for a replacement lens but thats my fault.HOWEVER the worse part about this pair is the matte coating on the frames. After a couple of years the coating started to peel and flake off on the frame. The arms were so back the lettering all came off. They were replaced for free by MJ even after 3 years but the frames would cost extra to replace. So i ended up just peeling off ALL the ... MoreBought these as my first pairs of MJ in canada. The Red sands are a great all-around pair of shades that boast great coverage, quality, and performance. They one of our top choices for everyday shades. Their lenses provide top-notch protection, superb clarity, and excellent contrast while remaining fairly true-to-color. The large overall size of the Kahis may be challenging for those with smaller faces, but they provide great coverage in a quality frame. Though they are some of the heaviest sunglasses own the extra weight pays off in performance. They also come with a super hardy case, which is great because you'll be bringing them with you everywhere! For a solid pair of glasses that are up for any casual adventure, you can't go wrong with the Red sands.
Love these sunglasses. They do wear big so in my opinion suit people with a larger head, or if you like to wear your sunglasses oversized.Very lightweight but still feel sturdy. My only criticism is, as other reviewers have noted, that the lenses scratch easily. I noticed when cleaning my pair that there's a few nicks to the outer coating on the lenses - fortunately this doesn't affect the viewing and can't be seen when you're wearing them, but it is a bit disappointing given how much these cost. I tend to take pretty good care of my sunglasses to and keep them in the case or a microfibre bag when they're not on my face. I never lie them lens-side down either, and haven't worn them much in the 6 months I've had them, so not sure how the scratches got there.
I originally purchased these with the blue lens. They have a warmer view than what I'm use to. I did like them but wanted a little darker tint so I returned the blue and went with the neutral. I love the fact these are light weight. I compared these with an alternate brand and loved the look but they were heavy. I went with Maui Jim and haven’t looked back. I was concerned about scratching of the lens. Today while washing my car, the corner of my hood actually knocked my right lens out of my Red Sands frame and hit the asphalt parking lot. I was sure the lens would be ruined. I picked the lens up and to my surprise, no scratches at all. Impressive. I was able to pop the lens back in. I am coming from the Kanoi Coast I had for 6 years (lost) with the super thin ... MoreI originally purchased these with the blue lens. They have a warmer view than what I'm use to. The Red Sands are the MauiPure lens and I thought for sure they would have scratched. I'm not sure if it was just luck or they really are tougher than I thought. Love these glasses. I'll probably by another Red Sands with the Blue for cloudy days...
