Assegai 27.5 X 2.50 Wt Dh 3C Grip Tr Fold 60X2Tpi: World Cup Champion Greg Minnaar's signature tyre. The Maxxis Assegai tire is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa, thought it was a fitting name for a tire ready to do battle on the mountain. The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, but also offer support and confidence on wet roots and rocks. While other tires excel only in certain conditions, the new Maxxis Assegai is built to go fast everywhere. EXO An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. 3C MaxxTerra An intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain tires. 3C Maxx-Terra is softer and offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip.

Great tire with a durable casing and lots of grip.

After ripping open the sidewall of my last front tire while bombing through a rock garden, I wanted something more robust. This is probably the beefiest tire you would want on the front wheel unless you were going full downhill only. It has been very reliable and predictable while cornering and has stood up to the abuse of Colorado mountains, without being too cumbersome. The Assegai Front with Aggressor rear is a great combo.

The Maxxis Assegai 29 3C EXO+ tire is just what I needed to ride the kinds of trails here on Oahu, Hawaii. The tire, with its beefier side knobs helps keep me glued to the trail, many of which are loose and off camber, with rocks and big roots. Though you sacrifice a bit of rolling speed with this tire, then say running a DHF upfront, it's totally worth it, and honestly I don't notice the difference. The EXO+ is strong and gives me a lot of confidence that the tire won't tear while I'm ripping through rock gardens with jagged rocks. Great tire if you're looking for something with lots of grip on trails that are techy and off camber. Highly recommend.

I purchased a set of Maxxis Assegai to replace a set of Maxxis Minions. My issue with the Minions is when leaning the bike there's a moment where the tire seems to feel vague until it gets over on the outter knobs. If you look at the profile of the minion there's a clear channel with no tread. The Assegai has a different profile and doesn't have that vague feeling moment while leaning. They grip very well and have and give a lot of feed back.

Very calm, planted tyre that grips well. Goes where i put it and tends to stay there & tracks well. This is a better tyre for my riding, a mix of all discipines, that the Schwalbe Magic Mary front tyre i had on before. Seems to ride well too, rolling over rocks & stones with not a lot of shock coming through the bars. Lots of tread blocks evenly distributed over the whole tyre which is what i wanted and seems to be paying off. Over all a great tyre.I plan on getting a softer MaxxGrip and putting this on the front & the existing Terra on the rear. Might be a perfect combo for me.The Assegai is supposed to be a slow inefficient rolling tyre but i have not noticed much difference to the Magic Mary (also not the most efficient tyre there is apparently). An Assegai on ... MoreVery calm, planted tyre that grips well. This is on an electric eMTB so efficiency wise, not as big a deal as if on an analogue bike.Downside is a lot of money for a bicycle tyre. And i thought motorcycle tyres were an outrageous price for what they are. Car tyres are a bargain and last 20 & 4 times longer respectively.

Maxxis tires are definitely a tire that you do it want to miss.

These tires are great. They even make the bike look more aggressive and of a better quality. From the very first drive, the grip is truly amazing. It definitely feels more safe and easier to control without the fear that it will slip. Maxxis tires are good quality made for mtb riders. Thank you for making mtb riders proud of their sport.

More grip than a Gorilla in an arm wrestling contest

This tire has an amazing amount of grip, the rolling resistance is slightly decreased versus other tires like Maxxis DHF or High Roller. I have had this on the rear of my enduro 20' Nukeproof Mega 29 for a few races and the grip around corners, over rocky terrain, and sloppy slippy sections was without a problem. I have it now on my downhill Banshee Darkside on front, and it steers true at speed, takes corners high and fast, and is durable as I have been riding a few times a month, 8-10 rounds per outing. At speed, it takes corners at Hugh angle without slipping or sliding out as the side tread holds very well. Braking is very efficient, as I have had tested this with peeps cutting me off and having to make massively rapid stops. I run the double down, super durable and whole running low PSI, handles very well, especially when paired with Cushcore, even down to 18 over heavy rock tech with no issues. Haven't had a burp yet. This is great for front enduro, or front or rear downhill, if you want less rolling resistance, look to DHF/DHR or Michelin Wild Enduro. But if you got better legs than myself or going main downhill, these are the fit.

My favorite Front Tire
17 October 2023

I keep coming back to this tire after trying other enduro focused offerings. This tread improved upon the Minion DHF by adding intermediate cornering knobs for confident cornering at all lean angles. MaxxGrip rubber hooks up properly on northwest roots year round. I prefer this in the DD casing, I find it has the shoulder support I need as a 200# rider without needing cushcore for most trail conditions. You will notice that this tire rolls slower than a DHF, or High Roller.

Outstanding front tire
4 June 2023

It’s a game changer. For the very first time tire itself works without applying brakes all the time. On the very easy turns I just can go. On sharp one brakes are required for sure but I can sense how tire works and just holds the line. Grip is amazing.I do like climbing and weight is not the issue. I did not notice significant problem with going up even though tire is definitely heavier than my previous XC one. However downhill rides are awesome. My current setup is assegai 2.5wt front/dhr II 2.4wt rear.Rims are 29 i27 and no issues whatsoever

Simply One of the Best

The Assegai immediately established itself as one of the GOAT, designed by the GOAT of DH. It comes in a variety of casings and compounds, I typically run the EXO+ on the front of my Bronson. For bikepark shenanigans, I run the DH MaxxGrip out back and DD MaxxGrip in the front. It's not the fastest roller out there but it makes up for it in overall control on the trail. It does pack up a bit in wet conditions but excels in just about everything else. There may be better rear-specific offerings out there depending on your application.

Phenomenal traction for SoCal trails in the Conejo Valley. Put this 27.5x2.6 Assegai on my turbo levo rear with an 29x2.5 MaxxGrip up front and immediately notched downhill PRs on my regular trails vs the stock Butcher/Eliminator combo. Insane grip but I won’t be running this as a rear on my acoustic bikes because there is way too much rolling resistance. 5 stars love this tire.
