The MAXXIS Ikon 27.5 x 2.20 tire is a model that stands out for its versatility in Cross Country tests. Its performance is high thanks to a significant volume and profile specifically designed for speed. Dual compound rubber is very tough, with (70a and 60a) minimal rolling resistance to eat away at the roads. Its large section makes this tire a comfortable medium, perfect for the most complex routes and without increasing the total weight of the product much. In this Tubeless Ready version, the tire can be mounted with or without an inner tube. In addition, the MAXXIS Ikon is equipped with an Exo reinforcement on the sides that ensures superior protection against abrasion and possible tears.

Thanks to BikeInn for carrying these tires. It is hard find such narrow 29er tires these days as all the newer mountain bikes are going with much wider ones. Meantime, my retro bike wont take anything more than 2".

I have run this tire for years. A very smooth rolling tire on both the street or trail. Fast yet a great grip. Long lasting even at 60 psi. I’ve consistently gotten 3000 miles on the back tire. Rotation I’m thinking would add to that. Want a fast mountain bike tire to ride anywhere this is it.

Superb Cross Country tyres. Low rolling resistance - fast, with enough grip for summer trails. A little pricey but hopefully they will wear well.
Where I live we have rocky hard pack dirt that turns to soup when it rains. So, we rarely ride when it’s wet or soft to reduce damage. For me the ideal tire is an XCish tread with a DD casing. Our dirt is rarely loose when dry so the XC tread grips harder than say a DHF/R, but the rocks are like razor blades. I would love to see more options for XC style tread with heavy casings and a 2.4-2.5wt width. A Rekon 2.4-5wt DD would be a perfect front companion if it existed.
Got this to put on the rear of my singlespeed, replacing a Mavic Quest. Rolls great, and the extra width helps with traction. It slips a little sometimes when out of the saddle on steep loose-over-hard climbs (e.g. sand on rock), but that's to be expected and it's never spun enough that I've fully lost traction and had to stop. On a narrow (24mm internal) rim, it measures 2.43" at riding pressures (~18 psi), but blew up to 2.6+ at 30 psi. It would easily be a true 2.6 on the intended rim widths (30+mm internal).
I recently had a set of 40mm Duroc rims fitted to a Rohloff and SON hub for my fat bike. I was kind of forced to look for a 27.5 x sub 3.8 inch tyre as Maxxis appears to have stopped reliably producing proper fat tyres. Although the tyres work fine, I'll probably mov to another brand as I like to support companies that support my interests. Pushy's service was second to none as per usual and I would continue to shop with them.
Such a great all around XC tire. I use it as a rear tire for the rolling speed and cornering. The lower knob profile, but well spaced allows plenty of grip, with little resistance!
I run this tubeless with Stan's or Muc-Off (on the front then I tried it on the rear) and on rough unrolled asphalt with potholes & gravel (40 psi). If I need to hit the ditch, I'm OK. On the mtn. bike trails, I just let it down to 25 psi. It does not do too well in super slick oily mud, but on hardpack it is absolutely terrific, efficient, etc., regardless of the pressure. It does not offer much drag, even at 25 psi. At 40 psi on hardpack it is a fast-rolling tire not much less efficient than a road bike tire.
Well, I bought a couple of ikons on Amazon, a few months back, and didn’t install them right away. By the time I did, my chance to return them had expired. The front tire… A 29 x 2.2… Was defective. At first, I thought it was my front wheel that needed trueing… But when I took it to the bike shop, they said that it was a defective tire. something is wrong with the casing. The tire was also blowing off the rim and spraying sealant everywhere, at only 28 psi. Convinced that ikons, have a great reputation, I went ahead and purchased another front tire directly from Maxxis. Glad I did, because it’s perfect and I love the tires. I’m stuck with a brand new $90 front tire that’s defective, though. I spent almost $300 to get two tires. For that, I’m not happy.
