Superb build quality , functionality and app experience. There is no other probe out there with a better app experience. My only gripe is how they market this to be a WiFi compatible device (which it is). Based on the marketing, I assumed that device wooden block connects to WiFi and then I can track the temperatures remotely using the internet. Instead, the wooden block connects to a mobile device which in turn uploads to Meater cloud. My other phone device can then remotely monitor temperatures. For the full functionality that I assumed from the marketing, I needed to have a spare phone that I can leave at home connected to WiFi (which I do). I docked one-star for this reason alone.

In theory, this thermometer is a great idea. The ability to monitor both ambient and internal temperature simultaneously is terrific. The fact it's wireless and integrates with an app on my phone is also great. In practice, however, it's really challenging. I tested the accuracy with a calibrated instant read thermometer, and a laser thermometer and both sensors are very accurate. The problem is with the connectivity. It constantly disconnects from the app, even when the charger and phone are within 5 feet of the thermometer. At 20 feet it won't connect at all. I had hoped that I could use the charger like a wifi extender by having the charger several feet away from the thermometer and then my phone connecting to the charger should give me more range, but that ... MoreIn theory, this thermometer is a great idea. The thermometer also cycles through estimating cook time so frequently that the phone sounds an alarm every 10 minutes or so during a cook, which makes it difficult to understand when a real notification happens. This means I have to monitor my cook personally just as if I was checking periodically with an instant read thermometer or a wired meat thermometer.

I brought a meater 2 from JB-Hi-Fi Robina QLD in April 2024. I honestly don’t see what all the hype is about?? It’s a probe connected to wooden block with a single non-rechargeable AAA battery, that then connects via Bluetooth to your phone. The wooden block does charge the probe. For Apple/Sonos pricing of a pretty simple device, I honestly expected everything to “just work” every time, but sadly that’s not the case. App reinstalls and taking the AAA battery out of the block don’t seem to fix things. Sometimes, it just refuses to connect, between the probe and the block - maybe it’s the probe not charging correctly inside the block - but there’s no way of knowing if the probe is successfully charging in the block?? The fact that it sometimes won’t connect makes ... MoreI brought a meater 2 from JB-Hi-Fi Robina QLD in April 2024. I honestly don’t see what all the hype is about?? The fact that it sometimes won’t connect makes the software and probe useless. The probe is also very finicky when inserting into the device - how much it can be sticking out of a piece of meat. Because it relies on a Bluetooth connection (instead of the 4 probe block which has wifi), you go inside your house to grab something and the connection drops out - why for a device that costs $250????No rechargeable battery in the blockNo wifiAverage software with dropouts or sometimes planning not workingWhy are these $250 again???For $100 I would accept these shortfalls, but at this price, it’s completely unacceptable

Last year I purchased an Ironwood XL because I was impressed with the assisted cook features through the Traeger app. I struggled with the wired probes and decided to purchase the Traeger Meater 2 plus probe thinking it would pair with the Traeger app. But it doesn’t. Very disappointing, thinking of sending the probe back. It is too bad that Traeger did not make that information available in their advertising for the Traeger Meater 2 probe.
I’m now enjoying better than restaurant quality steaks from supermarket bought beef 🤯Yes these Meater probes are not cheap, but compared to everywhere else it was a great price on sale at Basco. The probe takes so much of the guesswork out of cooking meat and this new version can be used even when searing in a skillet or BBQ’ing over flames - just make sure the probe is into the meat past the indicator line to ensure the more sensitive probes near the tip don’t get damaged.Awesome bit of kit. If you love cooking meat (which assuming you do as you’re here), and you can justify the cost, then I totally recommend getting the Meater 2 plus (avoid the older ones).
I previously had a Meater 1+ This could be disappointing due to issues with connectivity, the range was nothing like suggested, but when that was overcome the results were excellent. The other concern was overheating. You cannot sear meat over flame with a 275C (or whatever it is) heat limit, so limited for use on a BBQ unless watching like a hawk, which somewhat defeats the object.I was therefore keen to try the Meater 2+ So far I have not been disappointed. The connectivity is much better, and I no longer live in fear of incineration of the inside of my Meater (500C+ limit). The results have been excellent, Meater has taught me more about what is going on with the meat I cook in the last year than I had picked up in the previous 45 or so. Meater 2 arrived just in time for the Xmas season and all the delicious cooks that come with the season, having used the older Meater Plus for a number of years I was already familiar with this type of thermometer, but I must say the Meater 2 takes it to a whole new level. There are 2 massive improvements with this new Meater the first is the multiple (5) sensors built into tip, finally! No more guessing if you've hit a fat pocket that just happens to be hotter than the rest of the meat (been there).Secondly the ambient temp rating is now 550°C (hallelujah!), this was always a downside of the original Meater Plus whenever you're grilling on open flame you would get overheat alarms and have to remove the thermometer before continuing, the new much higher temp ... MoreMeater 2 arrived just in time for the Xmas season and all the delicious cooks that come with the season, having used the older Meater Plus for a number of years I was already familiar with this type of thermometer, but I must say the Meater 2 takes it to a whole new level. There are 2 massive improvements with this new Meater the first is the multiple (5) sensors built into tip, finally! Despite having the base not 2 feet from my probe, I consistently loose connection. I had heard of these problems with the original MEATER, which why I opted for the MEATER2 PLUS. This leads to annoying alerts/notifications during a long cook. If you have a Traeger that comes with a probe, use that with the app. It works 1000% better. This product was a disappointment. The app has neat features that I wish Traeger would do in their app.
I am a huge fan of Traeger as the quality never disappoints, and this is no exception. I've been shopping around for a wireless probe so I can have a failsafe in case my Traeger Ironwood 885 provided thermometer isn’t inserted correctly, shifts, or possibly becomes inaccurate as it ages. It's also nice for when I have multiple chunks of meat on that might be slightly varying in size so I can monitor one isn’t cooking way faster than the other. I actually had bought another wireless probe from a different company and was extremely disappointed, especially when it was at a similar price point. My smoker is double-walled and that thermometer couldn't broadcast to the base station/charging cradle if it was a foot away from my grill. I couldn't get a reading from it ... MoreI am a huge fan of Traeger as the quality never disappoints, and this is no exception. I couldn't get a reading from it unless I was standing next to the door which was pointless. This new Traeger probe has no problems broadcasting to its base station/charging cradle inside the door, to which my phone has perfect connection to anywhere in my house. The only small thing I wish it could do was have the ability to be integrated into the Traeger app instead of utilizing two. Not a big deal, but just seems like it would make sense
the delivery was spot on. From memory faster than what I could of expected from Amazon. as for the product, I have never used a meat thermometer before and still trying to get my head around how it actually works. But have already had some success (check out the pic). it tells you what the temperature of the bbq/oven, the internal temperature and where you up to in cook. you just have to obey it's commands and you'll probably be ok.
