As a former Medela Swing user, I have to say I love the new Solo model and it’s many improvements on the Swing. It has a thoughtful design that is sleek, discreet and easy to use. No wires to worry about and no requirement to be by an outlet to pump, making it great for travel as well. You could use this pump on it’s own if you are both breastfeeding and pumping to supplement or as a supplemental pump if you already have a double. It is nice that it is a closed system so milk will not interfere with the motor if there is a malfunction and ensures there is no contamination of the milk.My only gripe was that it doesn’t come with a nipple for the bottle. The Swing did and it made it easier to buy one product and start pumping and feeding baby right away. Thanks so much to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this awesome breast pump to try. Try it yourself. You will not be disappointed with the Solo’s quality, efficiency and ease of use. Happy pumping!

I find it quite useful to see this (can see with the Swing) to help guide if I massage the breast simultaneously.> The device keeps same setting after switching off for a short time. This may suit some people, but I don't like it - when I switch breasts I have to remember to change the settings otherwise the intensity remains high and will miss the stimulation needed for let down. Sudden high intensity feels painful to me if I forget (but it's fine if slowly built up!)Overall I am pleased with and would recommend this pump.

It is quiet, so if you are using it while on a call, the person you are talking to cannot hear it. It is rechargeable, which is a game-changer, as so many places ARE NOT PUMPING friendly, and in order to pump privately, you end up pumping in a bathroom stall, obviously without an electrical outlet – and that is possible with this small rechargeable pump. I also liked the small size. I placed it in a small bag and could bring it to a friend’s wedding recently, avoiding the need to bring a large pumping ... MoreAs a working mom of multiple breastfed children, I consider myself somewhat an expert on breastfeeding and breast pumps. I also liked the small size. I placed it in a small bag and could bring it to a friend’s wedding recently, avoiding the need to bring a large pumping bag. Lastly, I found the pump efficient, compared to other breast pumps I have used – I got the same amount of milk, or slightly more than with my Medela double breast pump. The only issue I had with the product, was the fact that it is a single breast pump. I would love a pump that is identical, but had the option to be single OR double, as at home, while breastfeeding, I love to have a single pump to use on the other breast while I feed my baby, but at work, I prefer to pump with a double, so that I can be as quick and efficient as possible. Overall if you are looking to buy a single breast pump, this is absolutely the pump to buy – quiet, efficient and perfectly portable, due to its small size and rechargeable nature. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a fellow mom!

Genius improvements
19 February 2022

Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump. When I first opened the box, I immediately noticed how sleek it looked. Very different from their older models. It looked like it's from the present instead of the 1990s. The pump itself is small, a nice round shape that's easy to hold but is not slippery, and I love that it had grips at the bottom so it would not slide around if you put it down on a table. There are many features to love about this pump. The most improved and maybe the best feature is the way this pump is powered. It has a rechargeable battery so you're not tethered to an outlet (anyone else have flashbacks of pumping in a public washroom, standing by the sink, because that was the only outlet you could reach?), ... MoreThanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump. When I first opened the box, I immediately noticed how sleek it looked. It has a rechargeable battery so you're not tethered to an outlet (anyone else have flashbacks of pumping in a public washroom, standing by the sink, because that was the only outlet you could reach?), and it's a modern power cable (USB-C port) so if you forgot your cable, you can easily borrow a friend's phone charger if you needed a power top up. How amazing is that? The pump parts have been redesigned and upgraded as well. The membrane seems more sturdy and the pump is a closed system, meaning you don't have to worry about milk getting into your tubing. Not to mention, if you wanted a friend to borrow the pump, you just get new parts and you're good. Don't need to worry about contamination. The breast shield is comfortable and all the parts were pretty easy to put together. I know it's inevitable but it was still annoying to wash all the parts separately. Not sure if there is a solution for that one.I read that this was quiet enough that you wouldn't wake your partner but this is definitely loud enough to wake my partner. It still sounds like a pump. The only thing I think would make this super amazing is if it had an option to become a double pump. Like somehow be able to attach another tube and had enough power to accommodate pumping from both. As much as this is good for travel, it was a bit annoying and time consuming to switch sides and I didn't end up with as much milk as usual (although that could be for reasons unrelated to the pump).Overall, I would recommend this as a travel or supplemental pump and I can't say enough good things about the new power options and cosmetic upgrades.

Great pump that is small and powerful
21 February 2022

Being a busy mom to a toddler and an infant it’s super important to be able to have some free hands when pumping. The Medela Solo is the perfect supplemental pump, as it’s rechargeable battery allows me to move about and not be stuck to a cord in the wall. The pump works great - it’s super efficient and works well as a secondary pump. I am able to play on the floor with my toddler while pumping and there are less cords for my infant to be distracted by when feeding.Being able to also pump while in the car when the kids fall asleep or we’re on a long drive is amazing. This pump has few parts and is super light, so it’s easy to toss into the diaper bag and take with us. It’s quiet and discreet, which is great for being out and for night pumps. The few parts also make it easy to clean, so I never have to wait long between sessions to use it again. The pump is easy to use, and I was quick to find the perfect setting and love that it remembers my setting for the next pump session.I do wish the pump had a digital screen so I am able to see how long I’ve been pumping for, or if it connected to an app to track the sessions - this would be super helpful. Also, as easy it is to carry around, it would be great if it came with a carrying case to keep it separate in the diaper bag. I like to keep things organized, so I did put it in a separate case in the bag, but it would be nice if it came with one. I would like to see that it doesn’t stick out as much, as my infant likes to kick the pump while I pump and feed her.My favourite feature is how light-weight the pump is. Others I have used I didn’t want to travel with, as they were bulky and heavy. With two kids I carry a lot of stuff, and the thought of adding more was cumbersome, but I find with the Medela Solo - I’m taking it everywhere.Overall, it is a decent pump, and I would recommend this pump to anyone who is looking for a secondary pump or needs a hands free option (and doesn’t need a double pump). Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump!

It has the 2 different suctions settings that all medela pumps tend to have. It comes with the new comfort fit flang that is very comportable. The suction is comparable to the other medela pumps I have tried. There is no digital display, so you need to just be aware what level you are at and how long you have been pumping, as there is no way to lo9k at the pump and see.You get one bottle, one flange and one connector. This is why this is better as a secondary pump. If this is your only pump, you would probably have to buy more bottles. There is also no sort of carrying case included. If a new mom asked me for a recommendation for a pump, I would suggest this one if they didn't want to commit to a more expensive pump before baby came, and they were having a singleton. If it was a twin mom to be, I would suggest a double electric pump, as I pumped A LOT more with my twins than my singleton, and would have not had the time to use a single pump. This is a great pump to take to go, and to try to see if you will be Pumping, but I don't think it would work as your only pump if you are more than a casual pumper. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump.

I was pleasantly surprised, just how easy it has been using this. Packaging is very pleasant colour with pictures of what is inside. Instructions are easy to follow, so is the assembly (there are very handy pictures). Cleaning can be done either by hand or in a dishwasher plus it has to be boiled to sterilise. Charging battery is easy (USB) with handy light to say once it's done. Light changes according to how much power there is left, which is handy. I was really impressed by how well it mimics actual breastfeeding with its very smart baby rhythm (two phase expression). It's very helpful that I was able to either leave it as it is, with phases being changed automatically or easily switch between stimulation phase and let down phase as needed. It's very helpful that I was able to either leave it as it is, with phases being changed automatically or easily switch between stimulation phase and let down phase as needed. Plus it's very helpful in case you have to pause expressing, machine automatically switches off after few minutes (no wasting of the battery, which is great). So when restarting it, I was able to switch straight to the phase I needed. Everybody's milk flow is different so having decrease and increase vacuum option is a bonus.Having exclusively breastfeed only, I was starting to get worried about the time going back to work getting closer. With so many options on the market, it's hard to know the best one out there. This is definitely the one I would recommend. It put my mind at peace knowing, when the time comes to go back to work, I will be still able to provide my little girl with my breast milk. Meanwhile I can gently ease her into combined breast and bottle feeding at my convenience.

My new go to travel breast pump
23 February 2022

I received this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. There are so many great things to say about this breast pump. Simply put it is my new favourite. It is super portable which makes it my go to for traveling and it works well with all my hands free pumping bras. The breast sheild is so much more comfortable than the older style Medela ones. I really loved how easy it was to use. I even used it in the dark without turning on lights to figure out buttons. Though my two year old also really enjoyed how easy it was to use and I would find it on and running randomly. There were numerous occasions where our two year old would turn it on and my husband who was near by couldn't even hear that it was on so it is definitely quieter than any other ... MoreI received this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. There are so many great things to say about this breast pump. There were numerous occasions where our two year old would turn it on and my husband who was near by couldn't even hear that it was on so it is definitely quieter than any other pumps I've tried. My life is already busy enough running after three kids so the fact that there were minimal pieces to clean and put back together each use was a huge bonus! Another bonus was that it works with my other brand bottles. So I could choose to use the bottle that came with it or just one that I already had on hand. However there were a couple aspects that I would change if I could. The primary being that I would love if it was even more portable. Maybe a clip on the actual pump that I could attach to my clothing so that it is easier to pump and go. I would also love some sort of storage bag so that I can keep all of my pumping supplies together better when traveling. Additionally the flashing light during the initial let down stage is particularly blinding in the dark but that easily remedied by just placing a cloth over it.Overall I really loved this breast pump and while I still prefer a double breast pump. This is my new go to travel pump as well as the one I grab when I want to have a little bit of extra milk available.

Pump for Success with the Medela Solo
20 February 2022

I am so happy that I added the Medela Solo electric breast pump to my breastfeeding "toolkit"— it is compact, efficient, effective, and exactly what I was missing. For context, my little one is 15 months old and I am well into my breastfeeding journey. I feel like I've tried everything and done it all, but this pump still managed to surprise me. I appreciate the sleek, no fuss design. It feels updated and very modern without sacrificing functionality — it is very intuitive and easy to use properly. I love that it is chargeable and portable and I can just throw it in my diaper bag on the go. It is also small, lightweight and much less cumbersome than other pumps I own that require their own bags. However, don't let it's small size fool you. I still manage to collect just as much milk as I do with my larger electric pumps.I highly recommend this pump for mothers who combination feed, suffer from engorgement, want to build and maintain an emergency stash, or those like me — their baby is getting older and nursing less but they want to maintain their supply. If you are exclusively pumping, this would still work for you, but be prepared to spend more time pumping because it is only a single pump. You will also need to purchase additional bottles, nipples, shield sizes, etc. as needed. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump.

Well worth the money and a solid investment
19 February 2022

I was given the opportunity to try the Medela solo electric pump by Stellar Product Testing Panel and I'm so thrilled to say it a great product.I am a mother of two , a toddler and a 5 month old. With both I used the Medela sonata duel pump until I received this pump. The duel has its perks but in terms of travel capabilities, and solo knocks it out of the park.Suction wise I would say it's equal to the sonata. However, unlike the sonata, it does not have a digital interface. So although you can increase the suction level, unless you count as you press ( I always forgot) , you don't know how much you've increased. Also, and probably only because I was used to the digital interface, it doesn't show how long you've pumped for. So same thing, if you set a timer ... MoreI was given the opportunity to try the Medela solo electric pump by Stellar Product Testing Panel and I'm so thrilled to say it a great product.I am a mother of two , a toddler and a 5 month old. So same thing, if you set a timer before you started ( again, I always forgot) you could pump for however long you wanted to go for - i.e 5, 10 , 15 mins etcCleaning wise, very easy to dismantle and clean. Only hiccup I encountered is I'd say 2 out of 10 times, I would go to use it post clean and the pump would be on making the sucking sounds, I could see my milk being extracted but it was blocked from going into the bottle. I would dismantle and put it right back together again and then randomly it would work again. Didn't happen all the time but enough to note it.Overall I gave this a 4 cause you can only chose 4 or 5 stars. But given that my issues are mostly preference, I'd give this pump a 4.8 out of 5. A solid contender for any mom, but I'd say especially for the working mom or a mom always on the go and needs to pump discretely. This pump is easily packed into a medium purse without needing to lug a bigger bag around. I've included a pic to show how compact it truly is!
