I bought the HOKA Arahi as a second pair of shoes (the other was the ASICS GT2000 -- a delightful shoe!), since I don't like to run in the same shoes on consecutive days. Preferences in running shoes are very personal and what works for one runner may not work for another. There even are variations in the same brand and model of shoes. That said, these shoes are quite good. The sizing was spot on, the material quality seems very high, they are comfortable and I can run ok in them. The cushioning is considerable, which is fine for some runners, but it feels somewhat overdone for me. Because there is so much cushioning, the motion control is a bit less than I expected. I tip the scale at 135 lbs and don't need a shoe with all that much shock absorption, but if you're ... MoreI bought the HOKA Arahi as a second pair of shoes (the other was the ASICS GT2000 -- a delightful shoe!), since I don't like to run in the same shoes on consecutive days. I can only say I might. I've only had them for two weeks, and maybe they will grow on me -- but maybe they won't.

This is a lower drop shoe coming from a mizuno wave inspire for several years and that combined with the rocker in this shoe seem to really help reduce knee soreness. For some reason that I have not been able to determine the Arahi gives me a small blister in my forward right arch if I run more than two miles. It's painful enough once I get to three miles that I really can't go any further for fear of tearing the blister open. No issue in same spot on left foot. It's probably a difference in my feet, though I've never had this issue with another pair of shoes. It's disappointing as I do like the performance of the shoe otherwise. I'm trying to see if the skin will toughen but so far no luck. I will probably return the shoes if the issue does not resolve after a few ... MoreThis is a lower drop shoe coming from a mizuno wave inspire for several years and that combined with the rocker in this shoe seem to really help reduce knee soreness. First time owner. Generally stick with GT series or Kayano from Asics. Typical day for me is walking over 15k steps. 1-week into wearing them and moderately impressed. Overall would give it a 3.5 stars.Pros:Super lite weight and well constructed.Design and style is great.Price is fair - a deal with a sale.Cons:Regular and lasting comfort is a concern based on my level of use.Generally would like a better quality insole or better-yet - GEL cushioning.Fits a bit larger then I was expecting. Would consider a half-size smaller for a better fit.Final verdict...TBD.

I have heard great things about the brand HOKA in the Triathlon community and decided to give this brand of running shoes a try. The quality and aesthetic of the shoe did not disappoint. While trying on the shoe for the very first time indoors within my home, I can immediately feel how firm and supportive the shoe is. I feel my entire ankles has been stabilized by the well rounder support. The shoe is incredibly balance and comfortable. The softness is just right to take away the shock absorbance impact from running on the pavement. However there is one down side to this and that is the sizing runs a little bigger than normal sizes. I normally wear size 9.5 running shoes from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Saucony, Puma, Reebok, New Balance etc... so I decided to ... MoreI have heard great things about the brand HOKA in the Triathlon community and decided to give this brand of running shoes a try. I normally wear size 9.5 running shoes from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Saucony, Puma, Reebok, New Balance etc... so I decided to order a size 9.5 in HOKA brand, hoping it will fit. However upon putting the shoes on the very first time, I can immediately tell that it was too loose from a length perspective. The width is perfectly fine, but the length is little too long, so I will have to return this and get a size smaller at size 9.That is the issue of buying shoes or anything online, you don't get a chance to physically try on the item to see how well it fits, but having been a client at Altitude for many years now, their online support and returns are exceptional, so I don't anticipate having any issues returning this pair of runners, as I have already purchased a size 9 from them already.
I really liked the Arahi. The gusset holds the tongue, so you can slide your foot in while standing. Looks good and felt good in the store. The laces are amazing. They stay tied without double knots. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for me. I could benefit from a stability shoe, but since I have no arch, the stiffer foam under the instep hurt my arch after wearingall day. The shoe is also narrow. Thankfully, Fllet Feet accepts returns even after wearing for a few days. I ended up with a challenger in wide.
Yeah, I'm old. To be totally honest, the BEST HOKA shoe for me, by far, has been the Anacapa. Original Version. But, two things happened this year: HOKA "upgraded" to the Anacapa 2 which was not an upgrade at all, and sized differently than the originals, AND REI stopped carrying the Anacapa in the retail stores so you had to guess on the best size. So I switched to these, which are NOT trail shoes like the Anacapa but are good for on-street runs and dog-walks. They are very comfy, with good support, and the sizes run true, at least as far as MY feet are concerned.PS I found an "original" HOKA Anacapa MID GTX in close-out, but not through REI. I bought two pair and they should last me until I croak... :-)
I love this pair of shoes. But at first, I wasn't to sure...I ordered these Arahi 6's as regular width. I received a box and opened the shoes, and behold: Arahi 6's in Wide. I double checked my ordering and it's hard to figure out which width you ordered, but I did find a screen shot that verified my choice. I submitted a return form and actually printed out the shipping label. Just before I sealed up the box to return them, I said to myself: try them on before you send them back. So I did, and they fit perfectly! The wide was the right size (even though I ordered regular and have had 8 other pairs of HOKAs as normal). I am stunned. Surprised, but glad!!!
I bought these to find a shoe with more room in the toe box so it is not too tight and restrictive on the forefoot. These serve that purpose well.An added bonus was that they changed my heel strike to be nearly a full foot landing. This is much easier on my knees. They also are more cushioned and elevated than my previous NB shoe which was discontinued. I was concerned this might increase pronation but it is working out well. Something bad happens and something better comes along. Seems to be a life theme. Also these shoes have increased my stride length by 10% - I think from the extra cushion and bounce in the sole.I hope they last for 6 months or more and then I'll be back for more.
I purchased these because they were rated as one of the best shows for nursing. As someone who uses them for 12 hour shifts, I was keen to experience them. This is not a dog at the athletes foot, just an honest review: they’re not great for nursing. If you’re walking long distances, then perhaps? My feet don’t get sore when I’m walking, but as an ICU nurse who is most times in a bed space for long hours, my feet get sore in these. I recommend seeing the team instore, and getting fitted.I purchased online, and there nothing wrong with the sizing - I think a softer sole pair would have been better.
Although Hoka describes this as a “stability” show I think it works really for mild pronators who are mid-foot strikers. A lot of support shoes focus on runners who are heel strikers, so whatever structure the shoe has is built with that in mind. Not so the Arahi. The combination of the semi-curved last, and the “J-frame” seem to prevent torsion in the front 2/3 of the shoe, keeping you in neutral position. The rocker of the sole may take a couple of runs to get used to, but promotes proper weight placement for push-off and lends itself to bio-mechanical efficiency. It’s also very light. After 35 years of running, I’m enjoying these shoes as much, if not more than any I can recall, other than the early models of the Nike Lunarglide, which were flexible enough to run ... MoreAlthough Hoka describes this as a “stability” show I think it works really for mild pronators who are mid-foot strikers. I might train for a race in the Hokas but would probably run the race itself in a different shoe.
