I've bought every version of the SC trainer. I loved V1 as so many other people. It was a unique shoe. So why does NB keep on making each version worse, taking away the qualities that made V1 so fun??Initially, the foam is not very bouncy or soft. It takes a few miles to break in. Even so, I would say that the cushioning is good but it is the least bouncy of the other versions. Now, I would say there are probably many other shoe brands with a similar shoe. The upper is firmer, less stretchy. I think it fits a little looser than the previous versions but I can still lace it tight for a nice lockdown. After 50 miles with the shoe, I'm disappointed. Mizuno Neo Vista has a great feel but they don't make a wide version. I'd recommend that if you are looking for something like V1 and don't have wide feet. Maybe I'll try HOKA's. IDK.

So here’s the deal. Really really solid and bouncy shoe. Biggest complaint is the tendency to pronate pretty hard in these more so than other super trainers I’ve used. I bought a 3/4 length arch support and that solved it. After that, they’re amazing. Truly great shoes.Hey new balance, add a little volume to the upper so folks can put different insoles in without squishing their toes

The shoe lacks toe box height. In other words, the shoe rubs the top of the toes to the point of irritation and discomfort. The new 1080 v14 has the same problem. As well, both models are too narrow in the mid-foot area, just below the toes. Finally, if NB fixes the above issues, the SC Trainer v3 would be an excellent distance and recovery shoe, but not a shoe for speed. The weight negates the mid-sole material and rocker. NB has work to do, especially with the low toe box and weight!

Excellent shoes!Started running about 10 months ago and purchased these as race shoes for my first half-marathon. As a heavier, slower runner, had a little concern in the back of my mind that all the technology in the shoes could hurt rather than help my results, but got them anyway solely for the mental boost they provided me with (look fast, run fast!) Turned out I beat my average per-mile pace by over a minute for the duration of the race and completed the half-marathon with both speed and comfort to spare!Love New Balance for being a brand that offers the majority of their flagship shoes in wides, which is what originally turned me towards them after trying other companies who don’t have the same variety of sizing in awesome colorways,
Loved the SC Trainer V2 for my easy day and slower pace long run shoe. Running between 50-60 miles a week at 7-8:30 mile pace. This shoe feels nothing like the v2. Much denser, stiffer shoe. You can feel the plate in the shoe as apposed to the V2. My shoe rotation is the Rebel V4, Elite V3. Ill be getting rid of these and trying to get my hands on another pair of V2. The comfort level of this V3 doesn't even come close to the V2.
I won’t lie, I’d been thinking about buying this shoe for a while. Put it in my cart only to leave it for later. I’m a big Nike guy normally, so I guess I had this hesitation because i had found a shoe that worked for me. I was looking for something to support my big wide flat feet. After I started doing research, I kept coming back to NB, so I decided to pull the trigger.Best decision ever.Have not gone back to my Nikes nearly as much, and now I’m on my second pair of NBs and thinking about getting the SC Comps. I’m very pleased with this purchase. If you’re currently like I was and sitting on the fence about whether to buy these, show love to yourself and get them. Just make sure to go up at least a half size.
I was so excited to get a pair of the new V3 model. I used the V2 model for all my easy runs for my last two marathon builds and went through 4 pairs in the last 16 months. The V3 does not live up to expectations. They are not nearly was comfortable and cushioned as the V2. The toe box is also narrower. Less than a mile into my run, I wanted to rip them off. Thankfully I was able to get ahold of a new pair of V2’s from Amazon, because these will be going back.
I have been seeking a more stable long-run training shoe for my fall marathon. My first run was delightful, perfect lock, faster than I thought, super comfortable. Recovery was faster than other trainers I use, probably because of the plate. The plate itself is barely noticeable. So it actually feels like a real trainer instead of a super-shoe. It does remind me quite a bit of the Boston 12 wide, but a tad heavier.I have a single E width foot, and can often wear normal shoes if the toe box is roomy. In the case of the SC I needed to return to Running Warehouse and get the wide. It fits like a charm.Highly recommend this for anyone looking to add a rotation shoe that chews up miles on long runs or execute longer intervals in a 10 mile-ish workout.
I run ~3,000 miles annually, so I go through a lot of shoes. After two pairs of the 2023 model I was excited for this update. The fit is similar with a slightly tighter toe box, particularly in height. There is more cushioning as well, however that does NOT translate to a smoother run. Rather the amount of cushion feels like my feet are slipping in sand; slowing my times and importantly, making my feet hurt over time. Have you ever tried hiking up a sand dune barefoot? If so, you’ll know what it feels like to run in these shoes. I can put in 80+ mile weeks in last year’s model with minimal foot and muscle fatigue, however running 5 miles in these makes it feel like I put in 50. I have given them a fair shot, logging 100+ miles on this pair, but I’ve had enough. ... MoreI run ~3,000 miles annually, so I go through a lot of shoes. Unless they can make them more like last year’s model I’ll be going back to my Hokas for most of my training runs.
I bought these the intention of using them during the NYC Marathon. I was very surprised at how comfortable the shoes fit right out of the box. I took them out for a long run in the humid weather and had no issues. No blisters or hot spots. For ride feel, these shoes feel better that faster you go. As the pace increases you can feel the difference the foam and plate make. This has quickly become my favorite pair of shoes to train in.
