Unfortunately these shoes are a major step down from the original alpine sneakers. Not sure why they needed to try and fix some thing that was not broken, but these shoes do not hit the mark. There is no tongue, instead there's a stretchy cuff around the ankle. It is oddly tight, and uncomfortable. It cannot be adjusted to fit people with different angles. The toebox has a breathable mesh on top, which is nice, but right behind that as you go up the foot there is a hard line where the suede kicks in, and this cuts into the toes immediately.I'm so disappointed that they have gotten rid of the Alpine sneakers. I own 12 pairs and they were absolutely my favorite shoe ever. You guys just needed to make more new colors, you did not need to redesign the shoe.

I wanted to love these so much, they looked great and I got some compliments when I wore them. But they hurt my feet, specifically in the back on my Achilles...I don't know if it was the new slip on design or what, but I expect shoes branded as everyday sneakers to be comfortable right out of the box, especially Merrell's. I gave them a week but my feel didn't adjust so I returned them. I had a pair of the old Merrell Alpine sneakers, and they were fantastic and comfortable. Not sure what Merrell did with this new iteration but the best I can give is 2 starts, mainly because they at least look cool.

I really like these shoes. They are comfy, fit well, look nice, and work well on the trail. They run very small so it took a few times to get the size right. But I still like them. However, I am very off-put by the number of spam/promotional emails I've received since purchasing. I count 35 emails received in 21 days. I've unsubscribed at least 4 times and they continue unabated. I have been a lifelong Merrell fan but I probably won't buy any more products because of this. Leave me alone so I can go hike.

These new Alpines are complete garbage. I wish they would re-introduce the original Alpine sneakers that were run from 2020 to 2023.These new “recraft” sneakers Have already started to completely fall apart me, and I’ve only owned them for a few months. I only wear them around the house and in the soft grass outside to do some chores. The stitching is coming undone in multiple places, and there is delaminating happening between the sole and body of the shoes. The original Alpine sneaker design was much better, these are not only a worse design, but they have very poor quality control. Don’t buy these if you want issue that’s going to last you more than a month.
Ordered these right before our family trip to Alaska to be my 1 shoe for the whole vacation. They did not disappoint but I do have a couple minor gripes. First, the tips of the shoes were way pointier than I expected and the website pics didn’t show that. I typically go for more squared off or flatter ends due to my foot size being 13. Pointy shoes make my feet look too long. Also, the pull-on loop at the heel could be a bit larger as I like to slip on shoes rather than tie them every time. The stretchy fabric around the foot opening seems like it allows this and is great for that purpose but I had trouble grabbing that heel loop. Lastly, the colors didn’t hold up like I expected. I chose the white (moon?) color and they are already dingy. Ok, to be fair, I was ... MoreOrdered these right before our family trip to Alaska to be my 1 shoe for the whole vacation. I chose the white (moon?) color and they are already dingy. Ok, to be fair, I was pretty hard on them. We did an ATV tour in Fairbanks in one of those side-by-sides and they got a little muddy. Also, we took a Segway tour and somehow they got blackened afterward (are Segways that grimy?). I will need to wash these and scrub them thoroughly to restore the color. However, these are nit picky items and shouldn’t deter you from getting yourself a pair if you’re on the fence. I wore them all day, every day on an 8-day vacation, walking through city streets, trails, boats, docks, etc. and the soles are excellent. I felt confident with traction on every surface. They were also more comfortable than I expected and I really like the style. Bottom line for me: these were a great purchase and I’m very happy with them. Just hope I can get the stains out!
Not impressed with the new Alpine. Like the others I'll have to say why can't Merrell just leave a good thing alone. That's been there problem for years. I used to buy only Merrell for all outdoor adventure, even wore them for many years in the US Army Special Forces while deployed. But time after time the style and fit changed in extremes. Now Im down to maybe one shoe which was the alpine, loved the original in fit (15) and comfort. Now I'm also done. I'll be sure to explore New Balance now.
This is not a great redo of the famous sneaker with the wave sole. It is very difficult to get into without a shoe horn, making is somewhat impractical for using when trail camping. The entry point is a continuous stretchy surround fabric/foam, much like a Vessi shoe, that is tight. Not a good feeling the way it grabs the ankle, especially at the heel. The new sole is not comparable to the old wave sole--not nearly as forgiving on surfaces and makes for a much stiffer shoe. I have at least four pair of the older version of this shoe but would not buy another of the newer version.
So here is a real review. These shoes are definitely worth a 100The design and the new pop step in is great as well.Love the new olive colors great arch support.Same materials as the old design. I think the ppl are ready to pay 150-200 for a more durable design but then again they have shoes for that very reason. These are sneakers and should be treated as such!Love the recraft Merrell keep up the designs if you want to make them a bit more durable we will pay more for that for now I love that there lightweight sneakers and will enjoy them for 2-3 years. Taking care of your sneakers is just basic knowledge if you want them to last! Olive size 11
I was taking a two week trip to Italy and could only bring one pair of footwear. I needed something that could do some moderate hiking, extensive city walking, and be nice enough to wear to some nice restaurants. These Alpine 83's were the perfect choice. They were so comfortable and performed well on the hikes that were a little rougher terrain than expected. They also did not slip on wet cobblestone streets. I am so happy with these shoes!!
All Merrell had to do was come out with new or more colors of the old design alpines. New balance taking off you'd think merrell would want to cash in on it. I order these new ones gray hoping it would look good in person and the colors are weird and don't look like photos so I returned them. The leather heel part should be gray and the sole shouldn't be a weird green. The 4 color options are weird for men and look cheap. Whoever made these changes should be fired. Right when the alpine style shoe takes off you cut colors and come out with a weird new design. I don't think I've ever seen a company be run into ground quicker than this. Go to any college campus right now and the old style is in. Completely clueless leadership. Sadly last time I'm buying Merrell. ... MoreAll Merrell had to do was come out with new or more colors of the old design alpines.
