With a performance suede leather and mesh upper, the Merrell Moab 2 Vent feels great and performs even better. This ventilated hiker uses a breathable mesh lining and M Select Fresh technology to keep your feet dry and odor-free, even as you work up a sweat. A molded nylon arch shank and a rubber toe cap grants stability and protection in rough terrain. A closed-cell foam bellows tongue prevents moisture and debris from entering the shoe. An EVA midsole provides long-lasting comfort, while an air cushion in the heel absorbs shock as your foot connects with the ground. For exceptional traction on uneven surfaces, the Vibram TC5+ outsole includes five-millimeter deep lugs.

This is my third pair of these hiking shoes. My first pair performed as I expected. Unfortunately the next two pairs have developed a right shoe heel squeak. This is not uncommon since I saw similar complaints on Merrell website. Yes I alternate three pairs of shoes so no one pair gets beat to death. I love the shoe, the fit, the performance, the comfort etc. However the squeak is a very load irriatating noise. Merrell needs to make statement re: this issue.

We purchase these shoes for our solar installers. They love the fit, the venting features, but especially the grip on metal roofs. One of our techs has a 7.5 size foot and we were unable to find them anywhere else. The first shipment had a 7.5 and a size 9 in the same box. We called and they quickly sent out replalcment, and a return shipping label. Now we just need to figure out what to order since Merrell is discontinuing this shoe.

I have had multiple pairs of Moab shoes both low- and high-tops. Every pair of them has been comfortable from the moment I put my feet in them. I enjoy walking city streets and hiking trails. All my previous Moabs made the activities more enjoyable. Unfortunately, this pair did not meet my expectations. Their soles were too stiff and the footbed had minimal arch support. The uppers were insufficiently pliable to conform to my feet. Given my previous level of satisfaction, I decided that there was a chance they needed to be broken in so I walked ten miles on a treadmill. They were just as unsatisfactory after a reasonable break in as they were initially. There was nothing left to do but to return them for a pair of shoes by another manufacturer. I bought an initial pair of Merrell Moab 2 Ventilator Walking Shoes Mens, over 2 months ago and have been thoroughly impressed by their performance, durability and overall product manufacturing standard. So much so that this review profiles my second pair. A fantastic investment to be made by me, before before prices rise and/or this product is no longer available at an affordable price.
Just taken delivery of my new shoes having ordered online less than 24 hours ago. My first experience of using outdoorgb and it wont be my last. I received a personalised email and a royal mail tracking number. Shopped around first and they seemed the most reliable supplier at the best price. Very professional outfit. As for the shoes, I usually wear a 10. Looked at other reviews and went half a size bigger. A perfect choice. Plenty of room for my toes and wide feet. Not worn them out yet but they are comfortable and well built. Quality soles, light and I particularly like the subtle reflective threads on the lace loops. Am fed up of the false economy of buying karrimor's for £40 which only last 6 weeks. For an extra £20 I believe I have purchased a quality pair ... Am fed up of the false economy of buying karrimor's for £40 which only last 6 weeks. For an extra £20 I believe I have purchased a quality pair from a renowned brand with vibram soles which should last. I am aware they are not waterproof but was looking for a lighter shoe to replace my bomb proof scarpas which are great but too heavy for a walk along the trail. I've also strained my MCL so the lighter shoe should put less stress on the joint and aid recovery.
I really wanted to like these shoes. I really did. I've owned a pair of the original Moabs for about 10 years, and I decided to replace them because they developed a hole in the fabric near the toe rand and debris was beginning to come in. I figured a new pair would last just as long. I tried on a new pair in the store and purchased them. After my first 3-mile walk on a flat, gravel trail, I noticed two things. First, despite fitting properly and comfortably, there was way too much heel slip in both shoes. I was wearing low-cut no-show socks at the time, and the shoes kept pulling them down. I had to over-tighten the laces to try to compensate, but I don't see that as a long-term solution. Upon further inspection, I noted that the Moab II's don't have the same ... Upon further inspection, I noted that the Moab II's don't have the same number of eyelets for the laces as the original Moabs that I own. On the originals, there are 12 eyelets per shoe. On the II's, there are only 10, and they don't go back far enough toward the ankle to prevent the heel slippage I experienced. Second, and this is a minor issue, the right shoe squeaked in the arch area whenever I pushed off. I've taken these shoes on a couple of shorter walks since the initial long walk, but I keep having the same issues. Based on my experience with my previous pair of Moabs, I think these shoes are rugged, well built, and comfortable, but this model didn't work for me. I'll be returning them.
I bought this shoes to be primarily a hiking shoe that I could wear occasionally as a casual shoe.First the positives:* Extremely comfortable out of the box. The midsole was very, very comfortable. I prefer more structured footwear. This provided a ton of comfort and cushion while still being firm on rocks.* The outer sole had a lot of grip. Did minor, very minor, scrambling and hiking on some scree fields. I felt confident in my footing. So slipping or sliding.* I also searched for a more structured hiking shoe/boot that wasn't goretex lined or waterproof because my feet burn-up unless it's winter. These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. I had to tighten my shoe so much, ... These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. I had to tighten my shoe so much, the fabric in the toe box bunched up. After my first hike, my toes just hurt afterwards. I never experienced that type of pain before. I thought I didn't lace my shoes well, the trail was steeper than usual, etc. I used them a second time. Laced them up tighter. Retied them before my descent and hiked back down. My toes ached and were very sore again. Wore them one last time for another hike. Same problem.I ended up doing a lot of research and learned a new term called "toe bang." It's when your shoes are too loose and "bang" against your boot and hurt your toes. Who knew?I had to think long and hard about it because I wanted to like the shoes, but I returned them. The negative outweighed the positives too much for me.SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:If you want to wear this shoe for work, as a casual shoe, OR the shoe fits (not too wide), then I highly recommend it.If the shoe is too wide and you want to hike in it, then it's a hard-pass.FINAL COMMENT: If the shoe had a normal width, I would still happily own a pair to wear hiking.
This is my fourth pair of Merrell Moab Vent. I have worn them for years and love them. I wear a size 11, but the latest pair is definitely smaller than my previous Moabs, even though the size label indicates they are the same as always. I put them on and tested them in the house. My toes touch the end and my forefoot is cramped. I don't know if they have changed the last or if this pair was somehow mis-labeled. I am going to return these, but don't know if I should get my usual size or try a 1/2 size larger. I am giving a 5 star rating, because I think the quality of Merrell shoes is outstanding. I hope I can figure this out.
Purchased these for the Camino de Santiago (790+ KM) which I completed in April, 2018. Here is my feedback:1. If you have regular size (width) feet or narrow feet or narrower heels than normal, these shoes will not fit you well at all and may cause some form of discomfort ranging from inacceptable to needing medical attention.2. If you are walking on hard terrain (rock, pavement, stone, concrete, etc), there is little padding to comfort the metatarsal area (pad of the foot). I developed a pain when walking 22+ KM per day in these shoes as compared to my runners.Overall, I found these shoes to be over-hyped. I developed a pain when walking 22+ KM per day in these shoes as compared to my runners.Overall, I found these shoes to be over-hyped. Most people don't have super wide feet and wearing overly wide shoes can cause a range of problems ranging from heel slippage which can cause heel blisters to foot slippage which can cause metarsalgia and side of foot as well as underfoot blisters. There are strategies to alleviate some and I do want to stress "SOME" slippage, as in very slight slippage, but they won't help if the problem is too great. For example, locking in the heel with a butterfly loops or rabbit ear loops and a surgeon's knot or other lacing techniques - you can cause hard spots if you overtighten the shoes. It seems that there exists many blogger and youtube monkeys (as in monkey see, monkey do) that simply regurgitate other people's information with out having any real knowledge on the subject. The important lessons learned are:A. Don't listen to anyone except your feet! Your feet are unique and all the bloggers and so called experts don't know your feet. Try on pairs of shoes and you should feel a fit. Your feet will tell you so listen to them!B. Too wide is no good. Slightly narrow may be fine but you'll have to break them in.C. Measure both your feet as one may be bigger than the other.D. Purchase your shoes MEC since they will allow you to return them if they don't fit. What a policy! MEC is only store in the Montreal Area that will do that. You need to try them for a short walk (2 hour) and for a medium walk (4 hour). Then listen to what your feet are telling you while you walk.Hope this review helps and buen camino.Ric
I haven't worn Merrell Men's Moab hiking shoes in several years but was looking for something that I could wear everyday other than the typical tennis/running shoes that I have been wearing. I was pleasantly surprised when trying them on just how comfortable they are. So I purchased a pair and began wearing them for my day shoes. Great choice! They are supremely comfortable. I also like the solid grip that I enjoy on most every surface including wet linoleum and ceramic tile. I like them so much so that I need to go back to my local REI and purchase another pair so that I can rotate them. I might also point out that I have been used to wearing merino-wool Darn Tough no show running socks for ever. I still wear the same socks with these Merrell Moab 2 and this paring ...
