Comfortable but Merrell quality has gone down hill

Wear these to work most days with public transit commute and a mile or more conducting rounds around the building. Like all Merrells I’ve had, they’re very comfortable. But Merrell quality is not what it used to be. I’ve only had these a few months and the heel lining is already shredded and is shredding my socks and the rubber is separating at the toe. Other Merrells I had and used much more harshly lasted well over a year before getting to this state. My most recent Merrell hiking boots are also showing similar quality decline. The last non-Merrell work shoes I had lasted over two years in the same conditions.

Decent shoe, could be improved in tech/appearance

This seems like a good sturdy hike/walk shoe. The uppers could be a bit more finished for my taste so one would be comfortable finishing a nice hike/walk with a visit to a decent dining establishment. As they are, one might assume the wearer has been sleeping in the rough. Coming from Anu though I’m not really disappointed. Quality and versatility seem about the same. The Vibram sole seems quite capable. Lacing closer to the toe would improve fit and subsequent agility.

Great on the trail even in wet coonditions

Good shoe. The first pair the stiching at the toe separated approximately 6 months of wear. The second pair the toe guard separated on both shoes and the sole started to come loose on the right side of the left shoe. Repairs were made with super glue and for appearance and use the glue is holding fine. These shoes have seen many miles of rough terraine and wet conditions and with repairs mentioned are still holding up. The Vibram soles are excellent. I'm looking for another pair. I would have liked to have given a 4.5 rating.

Love the style and comfort
24 December 2022

I don't like the idea of owning too many pairs of shoes. Wanted something that would be comfortable on long walks/hikes, but can also look presentable to be worn in semi-formal setting. These shoes are styled to fit in at work / semi-formal setting. And work great outdoors. While they have good grip on the trails, I should point out that they don't work too well on icy surface.Plus having wide feet, was glad that Merrell made these in wide size.

My favorite everyday shoe
29 March 2023

Have owned a few pairs of these over the past decade or so and I have been thoroughly pleased with them. They are excellent for trail running, hiking and woods walks, and other outdoorsy-type activities. Being former military, I usually prefer to buy shoes that don't have all kinds of flashy vibrant colors. Any kind of orange, yellow, lime green, refelctive tape and such is typically a no-go...I typically go for colors such as brown, medium-dark grey, etc. and the "boulder" and "dark earth" were both personal favorites of mine. The shoes were extremely rugged and durable as well. I liked that they could hold up to alot of abuse. Not waterproof
23 September 2021

I bought a pair of Waterproof Moab 2's a few years back. I found that when I wore them to a monthly pistol match, the dew on the grass eventually got inside and my toes got wet. Having wet feet was something I was unwilling to accept. I figured I needed a true leather shoe or boot since I feel leather is easier to keep waterproof. So I bought a pair of the Moab Adventure Lace Waterproof shoes. Before helping set up the match last weekend, I treated the Adventures with two applications of Nikwax Waterproofing for Leather. After 4 hours of walking thru the wet grass, the entire toes of my socks were soaked. Not exactly sure how the water got it, but this is two pairs of Merrell's labeled "waterproof" that have not been. Versatile and Comfortable for both Home and Cabin
2 February 2022

I use these Merrells everyday at home and at my mountain cabin on hikes and on snow and ice areas around my property. Also, I use the Merrell Moab 2 mid-rise WP boots in deeper snow with water repellent. I have been buying them every year for the past 7 years. They fit my 9.5 EEE extra wide feet very well. I would give them 5 stars except for 2 issues: The shoelaces are getting better but often I have to replace them with tighter gripping and shorter length Bulldog 40" laces. Also, the tread design is good for good traction, but the grooves and small rings collect mud and dirt easily. I clean them regularly with a stiff brush and small screwdriver tip before entering the house or cabin, or just take them off.

Waterproof after Treatment
8 November 2022

Good fitting shoe, quite roomy - I was able to swap-out the original insole with an arch-support insole that's extra thick and springy. I was tripped-up by the label waterproof, that clearly only refers to the Gore-Tex membrane within the layering of the shoe. The outer leather is not impregnated and will soak up water like a sponge. It will not go through the membrane but will eventually damage your shoe. Suggest spraying it with a water repellent before use.

Will wear these for as long as Merrell makes them.
9 July 2023

I have had 10 or 15 pair of these. They're my favorite shoe because they're comfortable, sturdy, and fit my lifestyle perfectly. I love that I can wear them to work, hiking, basically anywhere. Like all shoes, they eventually wear out and the trouble spots on these seem to be seams near the toe and the toe guard, which eventually start to separate. The woven sheath part of the laces will also give out eventually, leaving the inner cord exposed.. All this is minor; overall these last a long time and are very durable. I have never had a sole separate or a lace break entirely. Yes, they're waterproof material, but this is a low-cut shoe so temper your expectations; the waterproofing is basically or puddles and wet grass.

sturdy, comfortable walking-around shoes.
11 May 2023

These were my only pair of shoes for about 5 years. Great if you do a lot of walking, but I don't wear them on any kind of rough terrain. The toe guard separated early but I glued it back on and haven't had problems since. It doesn't do much anyway, it's just a piece of rubber. They should probably just remove that part. They're still comfortable, but the upper is falling apart and there's a big hole in one of the soles so I think it's time for a new pair.Reliable, comfortable, and you can wear them pretty much anywhere if you keep them looking clean.
