Considering I did do that many miles I should give them a 5 star. I did end up with a blister on my right heel, but that’s honestly just the distance. I’m also 225 plus in weight so I think that contributes to discomfort as well. Did upwards of 8000 ft of elevation gain. The shoes truly performed extremely well. The Smokey’s were wet all week and I definitely got to test the waterproof”ness” in them. I would add that I also wore my Merrel wool socks. The shoes and socks combined proved to be very effective for me. In fact that are absolute 5 star for the price. I might have bumped them to 4 if I’d paid more than the $85 that I paid. They are a tad heavy. But at my weight, you don’t really notice.

I received these shoes via mail. Just about a week ago. I was replacing another pair of Merrill’s that I loved that were no longer being produced. I like the shoes. They are comfortable. I use them mainly for work as I am a public school teacher and I’m on my feet all day. The reason I am not giving them five stars, is the feel a bit heavy to me. Also, they do not breathe nearly as well as my last pair. Meaning my feet are noticeably warm. Would I recommend this shoe? Yes, as long as I let the possible purchaser know they are a little bit on the heavy side and are warm. Would I personally buy them again? I will have to wait and see it for that judgment.

I purchased my first pair of Merrell Moab Hiking Shoe with Goretex in 2011. They were by far the best hiking shoe I ever had. I used them for over 300 day hikes and as a daily wear shoe. I felt like I was floating, they were very comfortable and wore well. In 2015, before heading out to Yosemite for a few days, I purchased another pair, the exact same. Again, they were awesome. Hikes all over Yosemite with them, and then continued to use them for another 5 years before they were worn out.Again, in 2020, I called my local outdoor store, and ordered in the exact same shoe. Unfortunately, when I had received them, although the colours and design were exactly the same, even the same laces, the shoe had been completely redesigned. The shape was totally different. I wore them, and they were very uncomfortable. The heel was raised now, so my ankle was much higher up and out of the shoe, it felt much less secure. If I tried to tighten the laces to feel more secure, they would dig into the top of my feet making it painful. The arch was moved and no longer fit my foot making it painful to walk. I think they dropped the ball on this new redesign. You had a perfectly fine product that was selling in huge volumes, why did you change it.I will no longer be buying Merrell footwear.I am an outdoor adventure guide and need to have products I can rely on time and time again.Niagara Adventure Club, Ontario, Canada

I bought this shoes to be primarily a hiking shoe that I could wear occasionally as a casual shoe.First the positives:* Extremely comfortable out of the box. The midsole was very, very comfortable. I prefer more structured footwear. This provided a ton of comfort and cushion while still being firm on rocks.* The outer sole had a lot of grip. Did minor, very minor, scrambling and hiking on some scree fields. I felt confident in my footing. So slipping or sliding.* I also searched for a more structured hiking shoe/boot that wasn't goretex lined or waterproof because my feet burn-up unless it's winter. These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. I had to tighten my shoe so much, the fabric in the toe box bunched up. After my first hike, my toes just hurt afterwards. I never experienced that type of pain before. I thought I didn't lace my shoes well, the trail was steeper than usual, etc. I used them a second time. Laced them up tighter. Retied them before my descent and hiked back down. My toes ached and were very sore again. Wore them one last time for another hike. Same problem.I ended up doing a lot of research and learned a new term called "toe bang." It's when your shoes are too loose and "bang" against your boot and hurt your toes. Who knew?I had to think long and hard about it because I wanted to like the shoes, but I returned them. The negative outweighed the positives too much for me.SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:If you want to wear this shoe for work, as a casual shoe, OR the shoe fits (not too wide), then I highly recommend it.If the shoe is too wide and you want to hike in it, then it's a hard-pass.FINAL COMMENT: If the shoe had a normal width, I would still happily own a pair to wear hiking.
This is my fourth pair of Merrell Moab Vent. I have worn them for years and love them. I wear a size 11, but the latest pair is definitely smaller than my previous Moabs, even though the size label indicates they are the same as always. I put them on and tested them in the house. My toes touch the end and my forefoot is cramped. I don't know if they have changed the last or if this pair was somehow mis-labeled. I am going to return these, but don't know if I should get my usual size or try a 1/2 size larger. I am giving a 5 star rating, because I think the quality of Merrell shoes is outstanding. I hope I can figure this out.
I have been wearing Moab 2 waterproof for over 20 years, I generally purchased the shoes at the Sports Check in Langley BC Canada. For a few years now I purchase directly from Merrell, online.Every now and then, like this time, I order a different colour than the regular 0610-JO8871as it turns out. Not only is it a different colour, it is a totally different shoe. it is a larger shoe. (says it is the same size) and does not have as good cushioning. I need very good support as I am a large man. That is why I have worn the Moab 2 for 20 years or so.I am very disappointed that you would sell them as the same product. ( My 7 year old grandson can tell by just looking at them that they are different.)I will be returning both pairs.I would like both pair ... MoreI have been wearing Moab 2 waterproof for over 20 years, I generally purchased the shoes at the Sports Check in Langley BC Canada. Nice shoe, but quality control is lacking. The shoelaces do not match, one being extremely short. Upon arrival I immediately noted that the left shoelace was tied differently from the left shoe, and the shoelace was too short to tie properly, i.e. to stay tied. I immediately contacted REI because I bought his pair for an international hiking trip. I'm guessing someone returned this pair due to the wrong shoelace, and being tied differently. After numerous emails to REI, I received a $10 gift card. I've been an REI member for over 20 years, and this effort to meet my needs is lacking in effort and response. I will no longer be buying anything shipped to me from REI for this reason. Other retailers would have sent me the right shoe and shoelaces, without me having to ... MoreNice shoe, but quality control is lacking. The shoelaces do not match, one being extremely short. The shoe fit and was comfortable out of the box. I wore them for about a month and then stored them away for about five months due to a move. I took them out of storage about four months ago and started wearing them twice a day when I took my dog for her 2 mile walk. After about a month the right shoe started squeaking. At first I thought it was a small rock causing the sound but it was no foreign object in the sole causing the sound. I thought the squeak would go away. It has not twice a day, every when when walking my great companion dog my shoe squeaks. So needless to say there is zero peace and quiet on my walks. I have decided to trash these shoes and move on with a new pair of shoes. 1 week review: I absolutely love MOAB 2 Boots and was excited about these tactical, all black editions. Working as a firefighter, I was looking forward to the comfort of MOAB hiking boots for 24 hours shifts. I chose low top for ease of on and off. Design, style comfort are all 5/5. But, other then being all black I fail to see the “tactical” aspects of these boots. They are not slip resistant, even small amounts of water had me sliding around the apparatus bay at work. We wash equipment and apparatus regularly, multiple times I slid just walking around. Most situations, as a firefight have us in environment involving automotive fluids, grass, rain, snow and mud. Having a firm footing is crucial. Also, they are not waterproof. Having a firm footing is crucial. Also, they are not waterproof. Given, they are not advertised as so, but they need to be Waterproof. From down pours to dew, wet feet ruin your day. Again they are comfortable so far, but not tactical foot ware. Definitely missed the mark. Look forward to trying another pair of Merrell updates the “Tactical” aspects. Must be waterproof, oil and slip resistant.
Used these on a very muddy day and they worked perfectly for traction and waterproofing on a hilly, rocky trail with lots of mud sections. Also used them on a hot, dry summer day (for that they were a little heavy/overkill, but I was eager to try them out). Comfortable, protected my feet well from uneven surfaces. My feet have high arches and they were comfortable and doing well after five miles of hilly, rocky trails. They are a tad heavier, or you feel the extra layer/material for waterfproofing -- but not in a dealbreaker way. I love that I have these for when there's any chance of rain/mud, but I'll probably get a lighter/non-waterproofed pair for the really hot, dry days.
