But depending on your pace and walking style, it can be uncomfortable or even painful. Don't get me wrong: it's a very comfortable shoe in general. Just be aware that it isn't a perfect substitute for a thicker, stiffer hiking boot in situations that demand it.Warmth: I've worn these in below freezing temperatures with only some thick Darn Toughs for added insulation. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I'm extremely cold sensitive, but the Goretex added enough windbreaking and insulation for the boots to be very pleasant. Even when my face was going numb, my feet weren't cold. You'll probably want something with more insulation for serious winter alpine use.Waterproofing: The waterproofing is excellent, in my very limited experience, but my local climate doesn't see a lot of rain. Okay I don’t live in upstate New York but I live in New Jersey and it can get cold so we had weather in the teens degrees and I wore these for the first time since I purchased them and my toes were so warm. The comfort is impeccable as well. I ordered a wide width just so I can wear thick socks but when I wore mine for the first time thin high socks and my toes were warm. My feet didn’t shift due to the wide width bc normally I’m a regular width. Can’t wait to use them in the snow!!!

I purchased these after wearing my Vasque on a trip to Wyoming. My Vasque gave me unbievable blisters. They were a size 10 and purchase a few years ago but never worn. The Merrell women's Moab 2 Mid Gore -tex boot were comfortable right out of the box. I usually wear a 10. But chose to go get the size 11 wide due to a bunion on the right foot. I wore my new Merrell's once for a short juant in my neighborhood. This was the only break-in I did, before wearing them on a 8 mile hike in Larabee National Forest in Washington on my recent trip in early October. I walked both the Ridge and Double Diamond trails.. I chose to wear Darn Tough full cushion socks. Not a blister to be had. I stomped around the camp site area and cannot find fault with these boots. I tried the other boot on, and the same thing...a wrinkle. I know that this is not a normal experience for Merrell products but this was mine this time. So, I started the process to send them back to Moosejaw...now for the good news. I love how comfortable & reliable they are, and I was especially looking for a pair of boots with a good tread & lots a grip! However, 6-9months ago a few of the lugs (rubber grippy bits on base of shoe) just started randomly breaking off or falling off & detaching from base of the shoe - while on flat terrain. I'm sooooo disappointed! When in store asking about warranty, I was told warranty is only covered for products purchased 12months ago or less. However I think this is a massive manufacturing problem, or if the item is faulty then it should have been replaced. A good pair of hiking books should last more than 2.5-3yrs. My husband and I both bought this boot. He put 100s of miles on his in the first year, I got mine as a back-up to another pair, so put much fewer on them. In both cases after about a year, the soles started to just peal away from the boot. We reglued them, but that is an ongoing maintenance thing, and the boot was never waterproof again. I mention both boots because the difference in millage would indicate the problem was time-based. The boot was comfortable warm and dry until it started coming apart. If you don't need the boot to last more than a year, I would go for it. Otherwise maybe try something else. I bit disappointed as my previous pair (a discontinued style) has lasted 3 years before wearing out.
I have worn walking boots for work for over 20 years and this is my second pair, my favourite in all the walking boots I have ever bought. They are really comfortable and lightweight. The goretex makes them waterproof and good in warmer weather too. The vibram sole showed no signs of wear after over a year of heavy duty daily use. The seams on the upper went in the end but I was really happy with the use I got from them because cheaper boots dont last as well. Sizing is correct.
It was long past time to replace an old pair of hikers and there's nothing like an impending rainy season and having a 12-week old puppy to motivate you to make a decision. My husband has long been a fan of the Moab so I opted to do the same. Love this hiker...the support is just right, the grip on the soles easily takes me from urban streets and lots of puddles to wooded rocky terrain without missing a beat. Best of all, the size was perfect. I have a wide foot and most times it's a crap shoot ordering wide shoes since many times if I order wide in my size it's actually a bit longer as well as wider. Not so with the Moab 2 Mid GORE -TEX® Wide Width. My 6.5 wide is absolutely true to size. I haven't been this happy with footwear purchase in a very long time.
I bought these a week before I hiked the Grand canyon rim to rim (22miles) and only wore them around my college campus once. and that was all the breaking in that they needed.On the hike I was very impressed with the ventilation, and the amount of arch support that they provide. Despite my knees almost giving out on me, the boots had no problems whatsoever. But that's a me problem not a boots problem.
