At last a comfortable fit

Since childhood I have had difficulty finding shoes that fit my wide feet. This problem has been exacerbated since the pandemic with its supply shortages. For a couple of years now I have been searching for a pair of sturdy, reliable walking shoes for my 6.5 EE feet. I was thrilled to see these on the website, and so I ordered, two, not just one pair in size 7.5 Wide. (I always size up for athletic shoes.) These shoes offer excellent support, and wearing my orthotics along with the inset provided seems to give me even better support for my arches. The toe box is surprisingly wide enough to accomodate my feet with their squared toes. I am looking forward to receiving my second pair, as these seem to be absolutely perfect.

Best hiking shoes I've bought in a long time

I bought these specifically for a trip to Ireland in 2018 (4 years ago now) where I knew I'd be walking everywhere and occasionally get the delight of walking along rocky beaches. They were great for Ireland- they ended up being the shoes I wore most often, even when I'm sure I looked like a ridiculous American in the cities, because they were the most comfortable. And since I got home, they've been my go-to hiking shoes for every season other than winter when snow finally gets deep.I've used them at least every weekend since, and occasionally during the week as well, for hiking. They fit well for my high-arched feet so my feet never get sore or tired. The tread is great for hiking or just walking. Add some yak tracks in early or late winter and they're just fine outside as well, until it gets really deeply freezing. These shoes definitely converted me to being a Merrell gal.

Comfortable and sturdy for city walking

This is at least the third pair of these that I have bought. They are comfortable (although heavy), sturdy, and come in my size (small feet.) I wear them mostly walking around on the city streets, so I cannot attest to how good they are for hiking. I will say that after some time (not sure - a year or two?) the waterproofing no longer works and water comes in. When they get wet they take a long time to dry out. That is when I have replaced them, as I rely on them to keep my feet dry when I walk in the rain. My other warning is that if it is warm out they get hot and my feet sweat, so I don't usually wear them in warm weather, like summer. They are fine for three seasons. Great shoe - poor insoles
17 July 2022

This is my second pair of Merrell shoes I have bought in a couple of months. I have always worn Merrell and love how they fit. However, as with most products these days, quality has gone down. This shoe fits fine...however, I feel I am walking on concrete. If you see my photo you will notice the black insole is what you get in the new shoes. The top insole is from my 20-year old Merrell shoes. What a difference in the thickness at the foot of the insole. I shouldn't have to replace the new insoles with 20-year old insoles because they are more comfortable than the newer, more expensive shoes. And, I should not have to spend an additional $20 for a decent pair of insoles in order to walk in a new pair of shoes. Product development needs to make some improvements. I also noticed all the insoles they sell do not show side product images in order to see the thickness of the insoles. I don't even know what insole to buy in order to replace the new insoles in the shoes. Shame on you product development. I would recommend the shoe. Maybe if you are 20-30 years old, you can tolerate walking on concrete, and this might not be an issue. I am 70 years old and value my feet. I don't go barefoot any longer but I am very fit and do a lot of camping, hiking, and boating. Just beware you may have to buy other insoles. This doesn't change my feelings on the shoe. I love Merrell shoes and will continue to use them. I am just not happy with having to spend more money on better insoles.

Great supportive and breathable shoe
3 May 2022

I initially purchased these shoes as I wanted low and supportive walking shoes that were breathable and not waterproof because in the warm Australian climate waterproof shoes make my feet hot and uncomfortable. These shoes have kept my feet happy and ventilated - as I've used them for daily walks around the neighbourhood and bush walking on the weekend. They are very supportive, and whilst they have a firm sole this actually saves your feet from getting tired on rough surfaces. It's true that they are reasonably heavy shoes, and you're not likely going to want to run in them, but they serve a purpose with the support they offer, and the capability they provide on rough surfaces. The sole has excellent grip, except on wet-surfaces where they are very slippery and ... MoreI initially purchased these shoes as I wanted low and supportive walking shoes that were breathable and not waterproof because in the warm Australian climate waterproof shoes make my feet hot and uncomfortable. These shoes have kept my feet happy and ventilated - as I've used them for daily walks around the neighbourhood and bush walking on the weekend. This slippery sole is because they have a Vibram sole which most hiking shoes have and tends to be marketed as a good thing, but I have had many shoes with Vibram soles over the years and they are all deadly slippery on wet surfaces.Overall I recommend these for supportive and breathable hikers - these aren't many hikers out there that meet these two criteria.I am just about to buy my second pair of these shoes after using them daily for 18 months. The wear after this time is loss of fabric on the inside of the heel, and wearing down of the sole.I have been very happy with these shoes.

Mixed feelings
9 January 2023

I like a lot of things about these shoes - Moab Ventilator 2 - they are good looking, feel very sturdy, have a ton of support, and a good sole. But they don't fit as well as I'd like. I came back to make sure I'd ordered the regular width and not the Wide, which I did. But the right shoe feels at least a half size larger than the left - and my right foot is my "bigger" foot. I've been trying on the right shoe in any pair any time I went to a shoe store, for my entire adult life. This is the first time I've ever run into my right foot feeling like it's slipping around in a shoe while my left foot is happy and comfortable. I did buy online after hearing some really good things about Merrell, but I think I'll have to go to a store if I ever purchase this brand again.

Moab2 very different than Moab
13 April 2022

I have had several pairs of Moab waterproof shoes over the years and have always gone back because of great fit and comfort out of the box and excellence on the trail, The Moab2 has been disappointing in terms of fit. On the good side, they are waterproof. In the past, I have had to return Moab Waterproof shoes because one of them (left) had a gap in the waterproofing. This was the case 2 or 3 times, but always the next pair was fine. With the M2 wo, both are waterproof as judged by walks in the rain and small puddles. However, the fit is uncomfortable. The tongue is very uncomfortable across the top of the foot. Also where the web attaches the tongue to the shoe., it is difficult to push it into a position that is at all close to comfort. Additionally, at least so far, it has been impossible to tighten the laces enough at the toe, causing foot aches after walking due to insufficient support in that area. Perhaps they will soften over time and be able to be tightened better, but after 3 weeks of walking for an hour or two daily, they have not yet improved. Finally, where the laces tie together, at the top, if they are tied at all tightly, it is uncomfortable. As far as traction on wet rocky trails, I don't know yet as I have only worn them so far on sidewalks and beach. The old Moabs had excellent traction, so perhaps these do too. However, so far they are uncomfortable.

Moabs best shoes out there
18 December 2022

I just bought the Moab womens waterproof sneaker. Again they did not disappoint. I have had the non-waterproof Moabs for at least 5 years now. I wear them everywhere, including to and at work every day. They are the most comfortable and supportive shoes I have ever owned. Despite their age and mileage, they show no signs of wear (picture) I only purchased another pair due to the sale/price and wanting the waterproof version. My husband who is very picky, needs a supportive insole, has plantar fascitis, is on his second pair as well. He is a charter captain and wears these in the spring on the boat. They keep his feet warm and dry and the soles do NOT leave black marks on the boat floor. They also for both of us, fit true to size. Hopefully Merrell sees the success in the product they have put together and doesn't change or discontinue them!! I do not hesitate to recommend them.

Poorly designed and uncomfortable
12 December 2022

I brought these back because I was sure there was a design flaw, but the store manager said that's just the way they are made. Other reviewers have made the same complaint - too much tongue - it's thick and attached to the shoe with a very thick piece of fabric that then has a very stiff edge. I did wear these shoes because I have mid-height Moab 2 which are so soft and comfortable, so I assumed they just needed to be broken in. Instead, they dig into the top of my foot. I can't comment on whether they are waterproof as I haven't subjected them to that. I couldn't be more disappointed and won't buy another pair without being able to try them on.
