I recommended these for the Mrs. after wearing out a pair of men's Moabs over the course of many years - they had provided a lot of comfort, support and an appropriate amount of room. I wish that I had bought a pair of the new Moab 2 shoes for myself to replace them, but went with another pair from a competitor - they felt great in the store, but not quite as good on the trail and, unfortunately, I did not get those particular shoes from RRS. :-(My wife has wider-than-average feet and was considering men's shoes because of it, but then we learned that Merrell models generally come in multiple widths. We also heard that Merrells tend to be wider and roomier than other brands (which also makes sense re: my happiness with their fit), so it was recommended that she ... She therefore tried on the normal width and voila! She did, however, move up a half-size from normal shoe size. She says that they "look" big, but feel great!

These shoes came highly recommended from someone who is on their feet most of the day. Shoes were, and still are, very comfortable when I first put them on. They are a bit bulky, but not heavy - what I expected from hiking shoes. I don't hike much, but spend a lot of time walking and standing on uneven ground. After about 3 hours, I can barely walk and can't wait to take off these shoes. They are NOT comfortable for long walks or wearing for more than a couple of hours.

These boots are my favorite hiking shoe. I have bought the same MOAB 2 style for 6 years because I walk a lot. Many colors to choose from so I can change the look every year. They are my everyday go to boot. As a dog walker I need a shoe that is tough and reliable in all sorts of weather. Walking 5 to 6 miles a day this boot holds up for all kinds of terrain, sidewalks, parks, and paths through the woods. They are super comfortable so I can wear them all day long without having sore feet at the end of the day. Highly recommend this boot.

I have had these shoes for a couple of months ago. I highly recommend "breaking them in". I made the mistake of hiking 10 miles right out of the gate with them.....bad call. The shoes are extremely supportive. The color on the site and color I received do not seem the same. My shoe appears more tan/brownish and the part that looks blue on the site is more of a lavender/purplish color. Still kept them though b/c I received a good deal on them. These are my 3rd pair of MOABs. Love them and they seem to last forever.
I bought these shoes for a hiking trip to Glacier National Park. I got them about 2-3 weeks before the trip and walked around town/dirt path/grass in the suburbs about daily to break them in. They really didn't need much breaking in...comfortable from the get go and no blisters. On the trails at Glacier they were great! Didn't slip, no blisters. Only when I had prolonged downhill my toes were hitting the end and hurt a bit. Didn't have any rain or ford any streams to check out the waterproof quality...so can't comment on that. The little blue trim frays easily, otherwise held up well. Hope to have another hiking opportunity soon!
Bought this pair (MEC store) because I needed a pair of 3-season hiking shoes, and have used it in about 5-6 hikes already. It's not really 'lightweight' but I find that this feature actually helps with my stability. Toe room is perfect (extra wiggle room was a must for me). The soles (probably something to get used to for some people) and insoles (cushioned) actually protects my feet from impact (for level 1 boulder jumping). Good grip so far (Vibram? Yes please!), but then I've always been careful when trail is slippery. I've used it on rocky, grassy, muddy and leafy trails during sunny/dry/rainy/wet days (summer-autumn). So far everything was fine. Have not really waded water with them - but so far, when the trails were wet, this pair kept my feet warm and dry. I ... So far everything was fine. Have not really waded water with them - but so far, when the trails were wet, this pair kept my feet warm and dry. I didn't have any discomfort either after my hikes (averaging 2 to 7 hours). Breaking it in was as simple as using it to commute to work for a day - lots of walking and climbing stairs. The shoe could be pretty warm so the pair was perfect for the times I hiked in cooler weather. But over the summer, I would think you would need light, breathable socks to pair it with (or air-out breaks during really long trails would help). I'm not sure if I'd take this with me with cramp-ons for winter as I have studded hiking shoes already, but I pretty much will be using it for the other seasons. I just hope this'll last me years (like my old worn out NB outdoor shoes) and I also prefer flat laces over rounded ones - laces are easily replaceable though. Hopefully I won't have to replace this pair for a long while, however. Happy with my purchase. This was a good buy all in all, and would recommend Merrell as a great brand for outdoor shoes overall.
Wearing socks, I wore the shoes around the house for a couple of days and they felt fine and comfortable. We then went on vacation a week later to the Smoky Mountains and hiked several trails (nothing strenuous - mostly easy walks). By the end of the third day, my right foot was so sore, and my middle toe ended up very bruised.I've never had hiking shoes up until now, and I guess I should have broken them in more. How much time do you recommend - a week, a month?
The first pair of Merrells I had came from L.L. Bean about five years ago. I wore them into the ground. Beans doesn’t sell them anymore – their loss. Good, quick, knowledgeable service with Cabela’s. I did try a couple other pair of Merrells direct from the company with no luck. Called the company and discovered they changed from being made in Vietnam to India. I found a pair made in Vietnam and it fit just fine. Would be nice if they were made in the US.
I bought a pair of the men’s Moab 2 Ventilator shoes after having my feet destroyed (on day 1 of 7) due to improper footwear on the mountain of Glacier National Park. This brand boasted no break in time and I couldn’t do anything but trust them. They were so incredible immediately! My fiancé was fine hiking in tennis shoes. For Christmas I bought her the women’s Moab 2 waterproof hiking shoes. We hiked around 15 miles on our four day Christmas trip to Sedona. Her feet were in heaven. I highly recommend this shoe based on the comfort AND grip the soles give you. The shoe actually gives you confidence that you won’t slip on whatever you encounter.
I've worn these a couple of times for walking in snow, on icy dirt roads and around town. My feet have stayed dry and warm even with normal cotton socks. They have good traction and stability. It'll be a few months before I take them on actual trails, but I expect them to be great. Other similar Merrell models were tight in my normal size, so I sized up with these. I'm torn on whether that was necessary with these, but the little extra room will help accommodate thicker socks. There is a lot of room in the toe box area even though my feet tend to run a little wide. These are not very cushy, and the arch support isn't noticeably great, but I can be on my feet all day in them with no foot or leg pain at the end of the day.
