These are normally my go-to hiking shoes. I must be on my fourth or fifth pair of Moabās. But this pair, that Iāve had for less than a month, have been a disappointment. The front rubber toe guard has already separated from the top black portion of the shoe. This happened to the right shoe no more than a week after getting the shoes. Now, the left shoe is showing signs of the same. I still wear them everyday on my morning hikes and they still keep my feet dry while crossing the streams, but really, is this MERREL at itās best?

I have a high instep and suffer from plantar fasciitis if I donāt have proper arch support in my shoes. After trying every other highly rated and recommended hiking shoe, and returning them because they just didnāt work for me, I decided to circle back to Merrell. Years ago, I had a heavy, leather pair that served me well on a trip through Germany and held up over the cobblestone streets, etc. but I had tried and failed to find an equivalent ā until the Moab 3. Right out of the box, I took them for a 3 mile test walk. Regular size 8 fit perfectly on my wide foot, with plenty of room in the toe box. I could adjust the laces for a comfortable fit over my high instep, but still cinch them at the ankle to lock my heels in with no slipping. Arch support was superb. The Moab is one of a very few shoes where you can get both Gore-Tex waterproofing and a Vibram sole. It is a heavier shoe with a very stiff feel underfoot, so it took some getting used to. For me, after clocking a total of 12 miles in the shoes, the weight didnāt bother me anymore, but if you do urban hiking, you definitely feel like youāre āpoundingā the pavement. The shoes really excel on softer trails where they provide sure footed confidence. I do wish the insole had a bit more cushioning in the forefoot because after about 3+ miles, my foot starts to tire in that area. Iāve toyed with the thought of switching out the insoles, but I donāt want to mess with the arch support. So glad that I decided to give the Moab 3 a try. This shoe is legendary for a reason.

This replaces a 45-degree Merrell boot that went bald on me. (15 years of biking and hiking)Great fit, neat sole, and smooth surround on the foot. Well except for the last shoelace eyelet that does not tuck under the tung. I looked at the old boots and they also had eyelet holes, not a metal hook but the tung was wide enough to prevent the pressure of the shoelace on the foot bones. At 68 years old I appreciate the light weight Goretex of This Moab3. I am going to break them in and keep my eye out for pressure points. I have high hopes these will serve me well on my Machu Picchu bucketlist trip next year!

I've been a long time user of the Moab, since the first moab shoe came out a long time ago now. The original shoe was extremely comfortable and perfect out fo the box and broke in well for everything from hiking to every day work and around town. So I figured I would try the newest Moab 3. Off the bat, I noticed a silght difference in the fit, especially in the heel area. The fabric in the heel is a two piece sewn together which now creates a hard "ridge line" around the heel pocket, which then rubs and pressures my heel, on my right foot. I'm using superfeet insoles, which i've always used in them. The softer midsole, I don't find is making the shoe any better. The original firmness of the midsole was perfect because it helped give just a little extra support. ...Ā MoreI've been a long time user of the Moab, since the first moab shoe came out a long time ago now. The original firmness of the midsole was perfect because it helped give just a little extra support. Also, the rubber toecap on the left shoe was also placed at a weird angle on the toe of the shoe. My biggest gripe with Merrell, is that after being bought out, their product quality and it's control have really gone down hill. But I'm now stuck with the shoe. I don't see a reason to go changing the design of the original shoe that made this one of the best out there.
These were comfortable after the first step - they required zero breaking-in. I was only mildly concerned about ankle support, but after our first real hike, those concerns were completely out-of-mind.These are incredibly lightweight and great for walking around town, not just the wilderness. They held up great walking through tiny streams and the soles were grippy walking over wet stones. If I had to change anything, I might address 2 things:1) The laces require a double knot. For some reason, a single knot comes undone almost immediately, but I have yet to loosen a double knot unintentionally.2) The waterproofing gives these shoes a bit of a puffy look. I'm not sure if the standard width also does this, but I can say the wide width felt "fat". This is more ...Ā MoreThese were comfortable after the first step - they required zero breaking-in. This is more of an aesthetic problem, and perhaps all waterproof boots have this issue, but I thought I'd at least mention it.
I just received my Moab 3 Gore-Tex a few days ago. Ordering was easy and my package was sent out/received quickly. I purchased 2 pairs in the same size and in the colors: Sedona Sage and Laurel. Sedona Sage is more of a gray in color. Laurel is as pictured, imo. Out of the box they feel true to size for the size 8.5 that I ordered. I'm a true 7.5 however in the Moab I've always sized up to 8.5 since purchasing the Merrell "Capra" style. For me... one size up fits best with my Smartwool Maximum Crew, Performance or Trail Sox. I cannot yet comment on how the Moab 3 Gore-Tex will perform. My Capras were going strong for 7 years and went on many outdoor adventures camping, hiking and daily use in the tropical climate I live in. These are pretty... but durability TBD. 5/5 for the left shoe, 1/5 for the right shoe. The left fits perfectly and is very supportive, but from the outset the right has always been painful, with a bump where the material changes at the heel. I bought these shoes for a holiday in Tasmania, and they held up waterproof wise. Now wearing them for local walks and Iām not happy, the material at the heel has separated and rubs, constantly giving me blisters even on short walks. I feel like shoes of this quality and price point should not break down this easily (a bit shy of two months) and I hope this is abnormal for the brand as this is my first purchase
Only worn it twice so still early days. Shoes feel āsolidā with some weight. Soles feels stable with deep threads lending sturdiness on uneven terrains. However the insoles it comes with are hard and not very comfortable. Could do with a bit of cushioning to increase level of comfort for long hikes. Also whatās with the laces ????!!! Comes undone SO easily! Donāt want to be hiking up some rocky terrain and having to bend to tie the laces every so often !!! Havenāt worn it in wet conditions yet but hoping the GORE TEX will live up to its name š.
I was very surprised by how uncomfortable these shoes were after reading such rave reviews. First, the fit: I had to do returns and ended up needing a full size larger than any other Merrell shoe I've owned. Once I got the right fit, it was like walking on the hardest plastic and didn't even feel like I was wearing a real shoe. No arch support, and actually no support whatsoever. I bought these for a trip to Scotland and Ireland, and I can't imagine these working for hiking or walking long distances- I couldn't even walk around my house comfortably. I was so surprised because Merrell shoes have never fallen short for me before. I had to return them.
